Age ain't got nuthin to do with it!!!

I've been reading several threads lately that blame age for weight gain or the inablility to lose. I'm here to tell you that age ain't got nuthin to do with it! I'm 53 and lost 20 pounds over about a two month time frame. The trick was to stop fooling myself and start seriously watching what I ate. Yes, exercise helped, but it was the 1500-1600 calorie/day diet (with a cheat day every week or so) that made all the difference. Stop using age as an excuse! That dawg don't hunt.

Congratulations Robin!

Michele, I agree that dieting is no answer and yes eating healthfully is a lifestyle. I think that every body reacts differently and so needs that special attention to make a difference. For me it's not a diet, but I do have to watch what I eat and write down the calories I ingest in order to make my goal happen. It is not a diet, it's my lifestyle. ;) Just my opinion that works for me.:)

I agree too. My problem hasn't been with eating healthy, it's more the number of cals. I can stay level if I eat about 1500 a day, but I can't lose weight unless I eat about 1000 a day.

Oh my gosh, I forgot to congratulate you, Robin! That's awesome.

*says "Cookie Dough!" really fast and runs out of thread*

Wow..... I don't know what to think... I asked about losing weight in a thread...maybe... I should have keep it to myself.

I wasn't slamming anyone. I'm just saying it's what we eat that makes us fat. I can't exercise as hard now as I could in my 30's. My knees can't take it anymore. It wasn't until I got serious about what went into my mouth that the pounds started to come off. And I know it's not always easy. I've been up and down my whole life. As I said to some friends the other day, this is a very scary place for me - at my goal and at wits end how to stay there. Maintainance has always been my issue.

I am the same way.
And I don't like ice cream! Give me some twizzlers!

Robin -- I am so happy for you too! You are a remarkable woman!!

And as far as ice cream goes -- nothing beats Coffee!!!!! ;)

Well, then I am blaming menopause, because I have gained weight! And I eat clean to boot. I am glad I workout though, because it could a whoooole lot worse!

Way to burst my bubble, Robbin. I've been blaming age AND my three kids. Can I keep blaming them, at least?? :p

Congrats Robin! OMG you must feel fabulous!

I do, however, disagree about the age thing. I went to bed one night when I was 39 & weighed 115, I woke up the next day & I was 40 & weighed 125. I mean seriously, it happened almost overnight.

Not saying it can't be done, just saying it is tougher as you get older.

I had the exact -- I mean, exact -- same experience as Laura. I was always around 115 until 40. Now, I eat less (not perfect, but less), still exercise, and yet weigh 125. If I ate what I did when I was in my late 20's or early 30's now, I'd probably be at least 10 pounds heavier than that. I've never tried it, but I'm pretty sure I'd have to go onto a 500 calorie per day diet to get back to and maintain my pre-40 weight. I really think age has been a big factor for me.

But we're all different, and that's one of the wonderful things about the world!

Have a great night,
Deborah

Vanilla.

Physiologically, age has a lot to do with how fast it can come off. Younger, you can get away with more, now, uh-uh. But it can be done, at any age.

And really, we all should ditch the junk, why do they have to make it taste so good?

Oh no- you got it all wrong!!!
Ben & Jerry's Fish Food- chocolate ice cream with little chocolate fish;) and marshmallow creme. Yummy!

OK peeps, the choices were CHOCOLATE or VANILLA I believe, none of these exotic foreign brands or wacky blends. Y'all went off-book. :p

Off-book, I like Guernsey Cow (coffee/Oreo). One of the local farms here has an ice cream stand and makes all these great flavors.

A friend and co-worker kept telling me the same thing over the last year or two as I kept complaining about how much weight I was gaining and how my walks on the treadmill at the gym weren't doing anything even though I was also lifting weights. She still believes that our age is a big reason she can't get her weight below 138.

When I finally started logging my food, counting calories, and working out with Cathe dvds instead of walking on the treadmill for an hour a day, I started seeing results! The logging of food kept me honest and on track and Cathe's workouts made me really work harder than I ever had and boy do I sweat! So far, I've lost 15 lbs!

So, I agree with your assessment! Age ain't got nutin' to do with it!:D
