Absolute Kickboxing!!!!

This is one of my favorite workouts!!! I have done it as is but I also preview the Absolute Interval Mix which alternates the cardio and bar work. I also am really movtivated by the music in this one, love the flow of the workout, love the combat intervals for something different, love the balance and the stretches are held a tad bit longer than most end of workout stretches. I like Kimberly Spreen also. You can tell that she enjoys what she does for a living! I have acquired Cardio Camp and Kickbox Boot Camp through the VF swap and while I like them a lot, Absolute Kickboxing is my favorite of the three!!!

I actually just did this one today, myself. I usually do the intervals premix alternating kickboxing and bodybar combat intervals, but today I just did the kickboxing. I'm working through Cathe's March Intermediate rotation and did this instead of CTX kickboxing because I don't have CTX yet (though I've ordered it and it's on its way).

I can tell you that last time I did the interval premix I had major soreness the day or two after (what is that called on the forum--DOMS?) I was really sore in the shoulders and obliques and lower back. I used a 9lb bodybar, which I thought might be a bit light, but it is used so differently from traditional weights that it still kicked my butt.

Love Kimberly and really love this workout (though the girls behind her sometimes seem a little odd).

Lainie, you're SO right about the DOMS! I knew it would be bad when I turned over in my sleep last night and my oblique soreness stopped me in my tracks! It's the kind of sore that feels like a bruise when you touch it. I'm pretty sore today up and down the sides of my body (probably from all those rotational moves), so I'm sure I'll be more sore tomorrow. Gotta love it!

I did this w/out for the first time about a month ago and agree with all the positive ratings its received.

All I have is an 18# body bar, and I actually tried to use it the first time. WAY too heavy! I switched to a broom, but that was too light. As much as I like the combat drills, I refuse to buy another piece of equipment just for one workout, so I plan to use my unweighted barbell. I would recommend between 5-8 lbs.

I agree with everyone that this is a fantastic workout and SO much fun. :) I use my 9# body bar and it seems to be just about right...though I'm not sure I'd start out using 9# the first few times of doing the workout. I prefer doing the interval premix as well. I've got 4 of her workouts, and I believe this one is my fave. :)

Not having seen the workout yet can anyone tell me if this weighted bar work will build up the ab area? All the talk of sore obliques after the bar work has me wondering. I need to shrink the waist not build it.

This sounds like a good one to use my 10% coupon on. Guess I can try my SS for the weighted bar. Oh, the enablers around here!

Gosh, good question. The reason I am so sore is because these moves are new to my body. That always makes me sore. That being said, I guess it would depend on how deep you go in the oblique crunches, how far you rotate, and how heavy your bar is. If you're concerned about it, I would just give 75% to the ab work instead of 100%, and focus more on the cardio factor.

Thanks Carolyn. I think I'll wait and see what everyone thinks after doing it a while. It looks like a fun solid workout, but as I stated above I really dont want to build the waist area. Being in my forties I have already lost the hourglass curve there.

Yep, DOMS (Delayed-onset muscle soreness...and not just on the forum ;-) )

I just received this yesterday and previewed it last night.

What is up with the chic that stops? She's the one on the left. I found it very distracting. It's almost like she totally spaced on what she was supposed to be doing!!

Melissa, I noticed that today too! Maybe she thought they were going to 'cut' the scene or have a do-over. Hopefully when you're doing it, you won't notice as much.:)

I did this for the second time this morning but mish moshed it with PowerStrike 2. Did the cardio kickboxing section then added on the punching and kicking drill from PS....awesome workout!! Helloooooo lats!}( :)
The Absolute core section ROCKS!

Take Care

Miss Dana?
I noticed that she missed a move once, but didn't notice her stopping (guess I was to busy concentrating on Kimberley and what I was doing to notice). I did, however, notice her scarily-long fake nails! I couldn't imagine how she could make a fist with those and not injure herself.
