6 Month STS Almni Jan 9-15

Kim, I am so glad that CCC came in the mail on time for you to do now! Based on my preview and everything everyone else has said, it should be fun! I admire you for staying on top of your pictures! I used to be pretty disciplined but now I just don't feel like doing anything when I get some free time. Maybe that will come back when the kids are older. Let us know what you are planning for snacks and how it works for you!

Rachel, it's your time to explain yourself... what does lolligag mean?:) And what exactly do you use a mudroom for? Never heard that one either! LOL!
I'm glad you have a good time pushing yourelf on the workouts. How's your photojournaling going with that?

Jo, circus school sounds like so much fun! I would totally be your partner! I'm dehydrating again this afternoon as well, I'm making pesto crackers this time! Can't wait to try those!

I was wondering about what I should do for workout today, kind of getting tired of the treadmill and anxious to do some toning, so Mary, you put the bug in my head to do Travel fit! So I did! I was super careful and enjoyed it a lot. I can see how I would hold the band tighter in the future for leg workouts, but it seemed like a good fit for me to ease back into it because I could go conservative on the tightness of the band with not too much tension to overdo. I hope I won't have bad DOMS tomorrow! If my body takes this one ok, then next weeks rotation will look something like this for me: LIC, interval run, Low Max, LIS with all upper body with major weight modifications, and maybe, maybe Cardio and Weights.... Too ambitious? I hope not!

Jo you cease to amaze me with all that you do! Circus school??? Even though I am afraid of heights , I think that sounds like so much fun!!!

Well lollygagging turned into shopping. Just a little though. I had to go by the office supply store an it is right beside TJ Maxx:p. I really need some winter shirts because it seem like I just do not have any so I thought I would just go in there to look around since I had so much time. Well I can never go in there without looking in their housewares or work out clothes! I am so not a shopper when it comes to things like going out clothes but I can shop the pants off of that other stuff. Of course I have more work out bottoms than I need but they had such a huge selection this time and of course they had some cute stuff and of course I had to get 2 new bottoms. Then in the house ware I found this really cool woven rug for 40- and I just could not pass it up. I am hoping it will work in the living room but will have to wait for dh to help me move the coffee table and lay it out to see. I want it to work but since that is a really used area I am not sure if it will hold up to the traffic. Keeping my fingers crossed though!

Then I went to the grocery store to but the little I needed for the spaghetti and quinoa meatballs , out of the clean eating mag, and they had a lot of good looking produce that I thought would make a great southwestern chicken soup so that is what I am doing tonight instead. My day has just flip flopped allover the place...:D

Jo-Thanks for the heads up on the KB work out. I will be looking out for combo 3. I have carpet in my work out room but it is very thin so I think it might be alright. Keep us posted on the yummy tortilla chips. They would probably go great with my soup!

I hope everyone is having a great day!!!!!

WOOHOOO Cendrine was able to do her first Shock Cardio!!

I did CCC today and it was hard!!!! I think it might have been a bit easier the day before disc 6 rather than after. My legs just felt felt tired and I was not jumping very high! I really liked this workout and can see using it alot.

Rachael I do have a drawer of "extra" pictures that were almost the same as another one or not a very good picture. I really should throw them out as the drawer is overflowing and I don't have anywhere to put anymore. Ohh, a mudroom would be so useful especially right now with the weather around melting, the boots bring in so much muck!
Sounds like a fun day you had! I meant to tell you that I found some really cute workout tops at Walmart a couple of days ago for $13.

Jo I really like the core work in Kickboxing as well! Some neat new moves to try! I would definetly go to the circus workout with you, it would be a blast!

Well, it's late and I just finally had a chance to get back! Busy busy day for me! I just wanted to let you all know I'm all set to do the Tortilla chips in the dehydrator tomorrow as well as black bean salsa! I borrowed a mini food processor from a gal at work so I'm good to go! The tortilla chips should be done after 8 hours or so. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for me!!! I will take nothing less than success!!!!!:D:p:eek:;)

Cendrine, so glad you got to do Travel Fit!!! That's probably a PERFECT workout to help transitition you back in! And, I'm with Kim in cheering you on for completing your first STS Cardio workout!!! Way to go into the weekend!

Rachel, how did the soup turn out? Do tell about KB! Also, if you're reading this before you do KB, the third combo is only about 4 minutes.

Kim, I knew you'd like CCC! It was hard, but I think you're right, it was harder because of doing legs yesterday!

Hi Mary if you're reading!

Here's the link to the circus school. Click on the flying trapeze box.

I knew you'd all go with me if you could! ;) Do you have any idea how much fun that would be! Have a great weekend everyone!

Good almost noon!:p

I am a little late getting on today. I had some house straightening to do. My brother has an impromptu date with his daughter to take her to a play to see the Wizard of Oz. Her Granny had to cancel last minute so tonight dh and I are keeping our nephew. It should be a lot of fun. I think our other nephew is going to come for a visit too so we are kidding it up around here tonight.

This morning it was MMA KB. I am like Kim with this one. I did not find it too much of a challenge but I had a lot of fun with those combos. Thanks to the heads up from Jo about combo 3 I was ready for it and got it on the second try. I did do some rewinding because I had not previewed this one but I still felt like I got a good work out because when I rewound I went ahead and went all the way back and did the whole combo again. I too love love loved the core portion. I think I just love that they were moves I had never tried and so interesting to feel things all over.:D Man Cathe is creative!

I was going to tell yall about an interesting book I saw on GMA yesterday. It was called Food Rules by Michael Pollan. To me it was a pretty interesting take on "dieting". He talked about having the things you like but just making them your self. For example , it is a lot of work to make french fries at home, therefore if you only have them when you make them you would not have them all that often. That is just the only example for that that I could remember. But I know it was a lot about shopping and eating the outside of the supermarket. Anyhow I thought it would be a great read for someone that is confused about eating healthy. He talked a lot about how people started to gain weight a lot when the diet craze and all the diet foods came out and how you should not eat diet food anything. Of course all of us here know alot of this stuff but I think it would great for some one who did not.

Cendrine-Lollygag-My definition would be take your time doing nothing...lol In a sentence...I need to stop lollygagging and hurry home or I am not going to get dinner started on time...lol
A mudroom is an entrance into the house that you can use to collect things like shoes and coats and things. I know alot of houses up north have them. We do not really have a foyer or anything so we just enter into the living area and I always wanted a nice cozy entrance where we can take off our shoes and we would not have to have a shoe box in the living room.
I am glad you were able to get through travel fit? Now how do you feel today and were you able to do C & W?

Kim- I totally agree with you. CCC was hard but I liked it because it was a new cardio concept for me. I don't think Cathe has any other work outs like this one and I think that is why I love her. She is always reinventing herself! Dare I ask...I wonder what she will come out with next?:p:D

Jo-The soup was great. I know this probably sounds weird but I added kale.
;) I try to add spinach or some thing leafy to all that I can so can get the extra nutrients. It was really good too. I am the only one eating it so I knew I would like it but I think it is something dh would like too if he would just try it. I did get him to try one of my protein shakes with spinach in it the other day and until I told him , he had no idea!
Oh I wish I could teleport to try some black bean salsa with the tortilla chips.Yum yum!

Ok I am off to try to clean up my pic, so nephews won't get them. Have a great day!

Rachel

Good Morning! Well the tortilla chips are in the dehydrator! I could not have made them without that little food processor - I could never have gotten the ingredients smooth enough! The recipe called for jalapeno chili pepper in addition to regular chili pepper...I couldn't find any so I threw in 1/2 of a fresh japapeno! And, I just finished the black bean salsa and it's in the refrigerator chilling! So, here I am, an hour and 1/2 later and I'm ready for a shower (lots of chopping, ate my breakfast, drank my coffee too)! Glad today was my rest day!

Rachel, I do not think it weird to throw in the kale! As kale as quickly become my favorite leafy green, I'm putting it in EVERYTHING! In fact I made another bean dish last night and threw some in at the last minute! Glad you liked the core work also! It seems we all have been feeling similiar about the various workouts!

Okay, off to shower, then a little cleaning and shopping! Hope you all have a good day! Again, keep your fingers crossed for my chips! :p

Jo, I hope your chips turn out well! I have a chip recipe as well that I want to try soon, but right now I have the pesto crackers in the dehydrator and they are delish, dh and I tried some that were thinner and already dry and dh said they would taste great with cream cheese, so he tried and loved it! I tried a little too, but I like them plain. Here's the thing: You would love them because they have two bunches of Kale in it!!!! I was not so sure how yummy this recipe would turn out at first because it has a total of 3 bunches of greens in it, I did two bunches of kale and 1 bunch of collards, then it has a cup each of sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, flax seeds and pumpkin seeds, two onions and half a cup of olive oil plus seasalt. As it started getting warm it smelled up the whole house and it smells fantastic!

I'm resting from workouts today, I have mild doms from Travel Fit and am just a bit jumpy about any twinges I feel in my back, so am taking it easy to be on the safe side. I was sort of wondering if I should pull out some of my beginner and intermediate workouts since it would be less likely of me to overdo than with my enthusiasm spurred on by Cathe's advanced ones.... I'm thinking about it.

Rachel, I hope your Mud room turns out great! It is nice to have a place to put your outdoor stuff before getting into the house itself! Have fun with your nephew!

Hi Kim, Hi Mary! I hope you all are having a great weekend!

The CHIPS are AWESOME! I am so proud! They definitely have a bite to them! And, the black bean salsa is AWESOME! I have just become a shining star! Oh glow is me! (I wouldn't normally be this excited, but waiting HOURS to find out if what you did worked builds some excitement!)

Cendrine, please post that recipe for me! I really want to dehydrate some kale! LOL! I think it wise you're taking it easy! And, I think it may be wise to work with the easier workouts. There's no reason to jump into something more than you need right now! You'll be glad you did!

Okay, chips and salsa behind me, I'm off to juice! Kale here I come! :D

:cool::cool::cool::cool:
It was just too bright in here! Jo you are lighting up the night! I know just how you feel though. When I try a new recipe and I have to wait forever and it turns out great. Oh now I am getting excited. yall have just opened my eyes so much to what a dehydrator can do. I just do not know how I never thought about crackers!

Ok this was just a quick check in for me. Nephew is still here playing wii with dh right now.

See yall in the morning!

Rachel

Jo, I'm so glad the chips turned out great! Well done!

Thanks for your encouragement for taking it easy, it helped a lot!

I am posting the pesto cracker recipe and the tortilla chip recipe I want to try. Is the tortilla chip one anything close to the one you made? If not, I'd love that recipe!

Green Pesto Crackers
1 C flax seeds
1 C sunflower seeds
1 C pumpkin seeds
1 C sesame seeds
3 large bunches of leafy greens (collards, kale, chard)
2 onions
½-1 C fresh (or 2-4 Tbsp. dried) basil
1 tsp. sea salt
1 Tbsp. red pepper flakes
2 C water
½ C extra virgin olive oil
Blend all four seed types into a meal in a high-power blender. Place the mixture in a large bowl and set aside.
Blend all the other ingredients into a smooth purée, then fold it into the dry meal. Mix it well and let it sit for 2-
4 hours. Spread the mixture ¼” thick on Teflex trays and dry at 105° for 24 hours or until the tops are dry. Flip
and remove the Teflex, then continue drying until crispy. Break them into cracker pieces, and keep them in
Ziploc gallon bags in the fridge if they will last you longer than a week.

Cilantro-Corn Chips

Serve with guacamole for a perfect snack or lunch of good fats, varied textures, and live nutrition.
4 C corn (fresh or frozen)
¼ C extra virgin olive oil
½ C water
½ C ground flax seeds
1 large Anaheim pepper
1 Tbsp. agave
1 bunch cilantro
½ tsp. sea salt
Mix all ingredients except the flax in a high-power blender until smooth, then add the flax slowly while
continuing to blend. Spread the mixture in thin layers on Teflex sheets in a dehydrator. After several hours, turn
and score into large triangles. Finish drying until the chips are crispy.

Thank you Cendrine! Yes, the recipes are similar. Note: I could not find the jalapeno chili powder so substituted 1/2 raw jalapeno. You may not want to do that as it may be too hot for the kids! It had quite a bit of a kick to it but more of a lingering kick! Made my mouth hot and my nose ran a little! :D

Spicy Corn Tortillas
3 cups fresh or frozen corn
1 cup chopped red bell pepper
3/4c. golden flaxseed finely ground
1TBS lime juice (fresh)
1 TBS chili powder
1/4 teas green jalapeno chili powder
Aprox 1 teas sea salt
2 teas. ground cumin

In a food rocessor chop up the corn and bell pepper then add the rest
of the ing. whirling (and pulsing) until almost smooth

Using a med size offset spatula, divide the dough onto two dehydrator
trays fitted with a Teflex liner. Spread out to edges until smooth
and thin.

Dehydrate at 115 degrees for 3-4 hours
Flip the sheets and carefully peel away from Teflex and turn over
Dehydrate a further 2 hours or until dry but still pliant

Remove and cut into shapes triangles, squares, or circles (for tacos).

Rachel, what did DH and nephew play on the Wii? I bowled and played tennis today! That was my rest day workout! :p

Talk to you all tomorrow!

Cendrine,
I may make your Cilantro chips tomorrow...I have all the ingredients! I can't wait to try the Pesto Crackers too! I have to tell you, the little food processor I borrowed is really little! Even with the small amount I mixed for my chips, I had to do it in 2 separate blends and then mix together when the ingredients were fairly smooth. It only hold like 2 cups! But it did get the job done - that's partly why it took me longer to prepare.

Good afternoon ladies!!

Hope everybody had a good weekend. The circus was really a lot of fun!! My DS was hesitant to go, but ended up really enjoying the night. Jo, I had to laugh about you wanting to go to circus school for trapeze flying. I would so like to attempt something like that. The inner kid in me always wants to come out and play and try new things. I've spent the day cooking and preparing food for the week. Nothing as unique as what you ladies prepare, but still on the somewhat healthy side. Today is my rest day, and I am so itching to go downstairs and do a workout. I'm feeling a little guilty because we went out with friends last night and I over indulged and feel the need to try to work off some of the calories that I consumed. It's still early in the day, so we'll see...

Kim - Yes my DS has a "girlfriend" and I am starting a new chapter in my life called PULLING MY HAIR OUT!! My DS and I have a pretty close relationship, but I am feeling out of my element with this new addition. Their dating consists of text messages and once in awhile she will come over to our house, or he will go over to hers with the close supervision of both sets of parents. I knew I was in trouble when my DS asked me to show him the proper way to hug a girl. I told him to stand back from her about 2 feet and shake her hand.

Rachel - Good luck with the mudroom addition. I had a company come out last year to give us an estimate on a sun-room. It would be an unheated addition to the back of our house that we would use primarily in the summer for entertaining. Sun-rooms in Michigan are very popular, and fairly reasonable in cost to have installed. It just seems like other things keep coming up, so we keep postponing having it built.

Cendrine-Glad you were able to do the travel fit workout. I moved to a heavier band resistance when it got to the leg and back portion of the workout. I think that's a workout that after a few times of doing, you will know what bands to use for each exercise. Cathe uses the same band in the workout, but for me, I needed a heavier resistance for certain moves. I hope the back twinges have gone away!!

Jo- I heard you mention that you had ordered the fire walker bands. I did also and used them for disc 6. I really liked them during the bonus addition where you have the band around the foot and then you kick back. I definitely felt the burn in the back of the leg. I also ordered the 4# weighted gloves. I had those on for MMA kickbox. Has Cathe ever commented on using the 4# gloves for the kickboxing workouts? It's kind of hard to swing the arms around with the extra weight on, but it sure does up the intensity. I really felt it in my shoulders. I could probably afford the sun-room if I would quit buying so much workout equipment. I just can't stop...

Well I need to get back to my dinner prep. Enjoy the rest of your Sunday and we'll talk soon...

Mary
