    Getting Our Licks In!

Thanks Elle! Headed out the door in a moment ... But, before that, wanted to share with those of you who will understand that I set a personal record with my squat rack last night: I was able to do 161 pounds, three sets of nine reps each. I used the Meso 3 squat racks pace, and did the...

    Getting Our Licks In!

Hi all, I have been back just for the weekend - hectic, trying to get Clara squared away after a negative visit she had with her family, visiting the county fair (DH was superintendent of Vegetables and Fruits!), and unpacking/packing. Not much time for anything but that! I did get a workout...

    TravelFit thoughts/recommendations for others?

What is your goal for the workout ... ? Before tossing TravelFit altogether, you might try raising the difficulty level by using a tougher band (you could use two at once), and by trading in the squats for single-legged moves and/or suitcase lifts with the band as an add-on. Also, you can...

    Getting Our Licks In!

Hi all, Back again - leaving for Canada on Monday, back Friday, then another trip!!! But, after that, I have a week (mostly) off. Just have to monitor the last of the fiscal year activities ... Hope everyone is doing well and having a great weekend!

    Getting Our Licks In!

Good morning all! Just stopping in briefly to let you know I'm home :) A busy weekend of gardening is continuing, and looks like much has happened that I need to read about. Happy almost-birthday, Renee!

    Spark People - LONG

I use spark people regularly. I lost about 54 pounds on that site, and have kept them off for over two years now. However, when I started, the calorie-count aspect wasn't convenient and didn't give me the nutrition control I wanted, and so I used (and still use) FitDay instead. Or, just a scrap...

Yep - another Deadlift post from me

I'm sure others with more experience can put this better, but here's what I'm noticing. I just got a squat rack last week, so I can finally compare heavy squats with the bar, with weighted vest up to 40 pounds, with dumbbells, and a combination of vest/bar or vest/dumbbells. * dumbbells...

    Getting Our Licks In!

... and okay, back now to finish up :) Michelle, I'm headed out your way on Monday but it sounds like you are probably on travel yourself. My Tuesday morning schedule hasn't firmed up yet so let me know if coffee that morning would work for you ... Renee, you bring back such memories of...

    Getting Our Licks In!

Good morning everyone! Happy Sunday! Janie, I love the sound of your workouts. You've got a nice balance there: lifting heavy, sweating hard, and adding in nice walks with Rolly and Monique. What a nice way to combine fitness and rejuvenation :) On MMA Boxing, do you find that the last...

    Getting Our Licks In!

Morning all! Shoegal, love those pictures of your niece! What a cute baby :D Congratulations on another successful rescue. Gunnar has a big smile ... you've helped him move from such a potentially sad life to being a very happy boy for years to come :) Those houseguests - they will be...

    Getting Our Licks In!

Hi all, I'm running late again, so this is a short post ... but it is fun to check in even if it is just briefly! Yesterday I put my new squat rack together, and used them today. These are the Valors, and they seem to be very sturdy. I'm still practicing getting in/out of the rack, so I...

    Do you have CTX?

I love CTX! I use Leaner Legs and Upper Body Split quite often :)

    Stupid deadlifts!

Just thought of something - though I don't know if it would help - in some workout or another I remember Cathe augmenting a weight by using a band. Basically, instead of putting extra weight on a bar she used additional tension from a stretchy band to increase the difficulty level. It isn't...

    Getting Our Licks In!

Great quote for the day before school officially starts, Renee! Your students are lucky, and it is easy to see why you have kept such enthusiasm for teaching over the years. I'm also a fan of double wave. That's my go-to for an intense workout with a short time frame. Might need to do it...

    STS Squat Rack Legs DVD's

I've done it twice now as a Mesocycle, and often will use one of the Meso 3 dvds as my Legs workout in other rotations - it's my favorite way to push Leg strength. What I do is increase weights until I can just barely complete each set in good form, so that the last rep takes all my focus...

    Sts Q!

If you have metal dumbbells as opposed to vinyl, you can use pace mates and plate mates. These are weighted magnets for dumbbells/barbell plates/stacked weights in various weights that stick to your dumbbell. I've got both. You can find this sort of thing under 'microloading' by google. BTW...

    Stupid deadlifts!

Hi Midget - I kind of doubt Cathe meant it that way, right? :D There is nothing wimpy about having one part of the body significantly stronger than another, and wanting to work both out to full capacity :D So don't feel badly about it. It would be pretty funny if each of us were perfectly...

    Getting Our Licks In!

Good morning all! Got back in at midnight, and am beginning to get things sorted out here at home :) I'll post more later ... just wanted to check and see how everyone is doing! Looks like by and large we're in good shape this week :D

    Stupid deadlifts!

Lifting safely - which to me means avoiding damaging the floor as well as the body - really has to come first! You may have to add reps to increase the challenge, or split your set up into multiple sets to rest them, depending on which is most comfortable for the rest of your body ... Or...

    Getting Our Licks In!

Janie, Thanks!!! You have decided me - safety first! I know myself:o I will keep pushing to do squats with the bar on my shoulders, and won't ever get my arms to keep up with my legs; better to have a way to work out safely :o. The bar on shoulder is so much more comfortable for both squats...
