    Calling all Marathoners....

I have run a marathon and raised money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We raised 10 million dollars. It's a great cause. I can't handle more than one full marathon a year. I'll run another one next fall and then I WILL run a sub 4 hour marathon!:-) :-) Meanwhile, there is 1/2 in...

    Elaine...how did your marathon go???

Well, it was close (like I knew it would be). I didn't finish in 4 hours. My time was 4:07:20. I missed my goal by 6 minutes and 21 seconds!!! :-( I live at sea level and the marathon started at 5000 feet so the elevation got to me a bit at the start. BUT, I'll be going back next year...

    I'm outta here!

I'm not actually leaving until Saturday morning after my final long run of 8 miles! Yahoo!! But I've got so much to do to get ready that I won't be hanging out on the computer. I'll be camping with my family at the Grand Canyon for five days then we'll head over to our friend's house in...

    Running in cooler temperatures...sorry...long

I live where you can barely differentiate between winter and summer so I don't have to deal with this issue. But I got this from one of The Golden Rules Of Running from Runner's World: "The 10-Degree Rule Dress for runs as if it's 10 degrees warmer than the temperature actually reads...

I feel like I'm going crazy or something!

It's 10 days before October 1st when I'll be running the St. George marathon and I'm a freakin' nervous wreck. I can't get a full nights sleep and I can't eat much. My mind wanders and I find myself thinking about any number of things that can go wrong in my life. I think the problem is that...

Opinions needed on a rotation incorporating 3 days of running

If I were trying to lose weight I'd go with option 2 or option 5. Definately work your way up to running so you don't get injured. That would be a drag!

    All you runners out there...

I think running is harder too. I like to do 5 or 6 days of cardio a week and for me it's best to mix it up and use one of Cathe's workouts about twice a week. (That's when things are normal and I'm not training for a marathon! Only 11 more days....)

    Must...............Vent...........

Well, I wouldn't say that men suck but I do think that some people are jerks, regardless of gender. And that's one of those things outside of our respective circles of influence. I take it this is not a guy you can talk reasonably with? Consider yourself lucky not to be completely...

    Cathe, your workouts work!

Hi Cathe, I've been working very hard training to run a marathon on October 1st. In addition to the required running I've been using the Gym Styles to work my upper body. My strength focus for lower body has been more endurance/freestyle type training. I've gained a considerable amount of...

    A little disappointed

I got the impression that Butts and Guts will not be cardio.

    PUB overhead press weenie

Nancy, Are you able to do any of them? For some reason the over head presses in PUB are tough for me too. I can use 20 lbs no problem in GS triceps and I actually need to buy 25 lb weights so I can move up. But in PUB my weights are 10, 12 and 15 lbs. I'm very close to losing my form from...

Update on the Atkins diet situation

I'm voting for WW too but only the core plan, not the flex plan (counting points). The core plan is clean eating. You get a list of foods that you can eat. Portion control is left up to the individual. Other than the list of foods, I didn't receive any nutritional education at the meetings...

what's the current thought on how often to hit each muscle...

I recently did the same thing that Sarah did, using Gym Styles and finishing off the week with Muscle Max. I've been doing freestyle like workouts for lower body and have used Gym Style legs for those. When I started this I couldn't do very many of the pushups in GS chest before dropping and...

OK Dani. Are you ready for that 20 miler?

"I ran 18 not too long ago. What's 2 more miles??? Right???" Exactly, Dani! You are in the right mind set!! I bet you'll do great. This is the hardest week ever and as you already know, after the 20 miles it's all about cutting back and getting some rest so you'll be ready for the big...

    suggestions for step only workouts

I have to give Power Max my vote too. Out of all the older step workouts I like it the most.

OK Dani. Are you ready for that 20 miler?

It's this weekend, right? I did mine last Sunday and feel pretty good about my time. When I hit 3 hours of running a little devil (or maybe an angel really!) popped up on my shoulder and tried to convince me that 3 hours of running was enough preparation and that it would be just fine for me...

    Winning by Losing--Jillian Michaels

Luvmylbb, Do you have Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle too? How similar are they? If I were going to buy one or the other which would you recommend? Thanks!

Have you seen this? Bush taking blame.

Someone posted that Bush is responsible for the hurricane. Here's a link to the National Hurricane Center website. It shows the history of U.S. hurricanes from 1851 through 2004. I can see that the intesity of the storms and the occurrence of them has decreased. The worst decade was 1941...

    Kathryn, another question for you

Thanks Kathryn, I do about 1/3 of my grocery shopping at a natural foods store and think I'll get some next time I'm there. It seems that when I eat a good amount of soy I get some relief from perimenopausal symptoms. Plus it really satisfies my hunger and keeps me feeling full for a good...
