Yes, HD is dead. All their players now on sale real cheap... around $50. You can still play Cathe DVD on HD and BluRay DVD players. So essentially, you can use the HD player as an upconvert -- using the HD DVD for its nice feature to play regular DVD. It won't play BluRay.
