    800 situps?

I was in a hurry and double typed the 3 so I edited it. Those slings you described can mimic the chair. Yes it is quite challenging and hard to cheat with whereas I find situps and crunches to be easy to cheat on when I get tired.

    800 situps?

Tell you what, do 3 sets of 50 hanging knee ups with perfect form and the results will be the same. Assuming a clean diet, of course. Situps and crunches rate behind the hanging knee ups in terms of stimulating the abs.

    800 situps?

Stay with that thought Gayle. You don't need all of that time investment to be extremely fit. Then there's the injury factor.....

    Cathe--concern about August rotation

Like someone said it's a take it or leave it thing. However, I have to agree with you Debbie, on the safety concerns. And I have never seen the point of doing something so repetitive and time-consuming. "Less is more" training is where it's at in my opinion. And I'd match myself against anyone...

    Flat vs. incline chest work

There is a whole debate on whether you can actually target the upper chest as opposed to the middle and lower pectorals. I have even seen where some think that flyes are a wasted effort. Personally, I think doing inclines, declines and flat bench moves is good just because it allows you to mix...

Mother In Law wearing white dress at the wedding?

The rest of us do not know these people. I find it tacky, to be honest, that a picture of these people has been posted here for others to poke fun. Does your friend know that her wedding party picture is posted here and people are making fun of it? I wonder if Cathe would approve of this on...

Does anyone have a Ford Expedition?

Just don't like to see people stating things as facts that are not indisputable facts. The book I recommended explains it all with no bias either way. Statistics are slanted everyday by the media to make the sheep in this country believe and follow certain agendas. Check out the book.

Does anyone have a Ford Expedition?

We can agree to disagree. Actually none of that stuff you have mentioned has been measured reliably. In most arguments that become political what you have to remember is to follow the money trail. In a nutshell, if you are a researcher and you say global warming is real, then you can continue...

Mother In Law wearing white dress at the wedding?

I agree that she should have picked a different color because it's the bride's day but some of you are reading too much into this picture without knowing the circumstances or the people involved.

Does anyone have a Ford Expedition?

Christine, I am not going to argue with you but you are mistaken about the temps rising. Check out the term junk science on the internet and see what you come up with.

Does anyone have a Ford Expedition?

That's good for you but I am betting the majority do not do so. Congratulations on the MPG too, but you are in the minority according to the study I had seen. Like I stated I wish I had saved it to link up in here. The use of petroleum based products goes far beyond your car I am afraid.

    Gym Slackers

Well they'll just find a different class to attend. I see slackers all the time with cardio sessions. But especially in lifting, don't always confuse "slacking" with someone who is timing their sets, etc. with up to 2 mins between sets. There are lifting regimens that call for that amount of...

Space shuttle returns to space - finally

The feeling around here is that NASA apparently wasted two years and still has not solved the foam problem. Bad news for the Russians, who have shouldered the load of getting people and some equipment up to the station. That's killing them financially.

Does anyone have a Ford Expedition?

Well cars do impact the environment to some degree. So do people every time they breathe in and out. Let's be real here. Few people go to a car showroom looking for the most environmentally friendly car out there. And as for effects on the environment, if you are referring to global warming...

Does anyone have a Ford Expedition?

Valerie, don't waste your money on hybrid cars. I saw a study that said because they cost more, it would take you something like 16 years of driving to recoup the cost. So, basically you never recoup it because no one drives a car 16 years. Hybrid technology has a ways to go yet. Here's a link...

    Is this dangerous?

After 3 months you should have at least tried to move up or changed the lift tempo. Three months doing the samething is stagnation in my opinion. If you do not want to go heavier, then change the tempo and get the same effect. Or do the flyes in a different order in your workout and get the same...

    Awesome ladies

I personally vote for whomever is the best candidate, regardless of the party affiliation. Which is the way I believe more people should vote. As for Hillary, she's a freak and I really hope she goes nowhere in her attempts to become President. As a woman, what annoys me the most among many...

Cathe...please respond to the NYT article RE: Strength ...

Great post Nancy. However, I had to laugh when it said something to the effect of after 6 weeks so and so gained 2 pounds. Whoa! Two pounds----what a disaster! Beyond the article --Everyone certainly has to find their own balance between weights and cardio. I personally feel that most people...

    Hear both sides...which really works?

You are right about that Candi but it is commonly thought that high rep/low weight stimulates type one fibers and those fibers are structured differently within the body so that you won't see them bulk like type 2 fibers do.

    Hear both sides...which really works?

This depends on your makeup of type 1 and type 2 muscle fibers. For building bigger muscles stay in the 6-10 rep range, which stimulates type 2 fiber. Type 2 fibers are the ones that grow big enough to notice. Vary the tempo, particularly the negative part of a lift. That is the most important...
