Cathe--concern about August rotation

RE: Hey HB!

Excellent response, Cathe. I personally thank you for such a challenging rotation. I'm enjoying it very much. :)

RE: Hey HB!

I appreciate Cathe taking the time to post monthly rotations that we can choose to follow or not.I usually exercise 1-2 hours a day and I am a big Cathe fan and a big believer in pushing myself to newfound limits.Get this challenge is a great way to find new fitness limits when I will finish the first round of P90X.You need to use your common sense, and listen your body. I don't think that the rotation is meant for people who weren't in fairly good shape. That seems pretty obvious.

Hi Cathe and Wendy. Cathe you are such a pro - positive, informed and engaging. Just to share my take on the rotation if this helps you all: I work FT and have two girls 5 and 3 (who I plan to marry off to Cathe's boys in 20 years!! ha!!) So an hour a day, sometimes more sometimes less, is what I can and want to do. But I am taking inspiration from it - adding in today for example the 200 walking lunges and 40 push-ups to my KPC cardio + abs only workout. One hour complete. Also will fit in some of the extra boot campish drills here and there. Maybe take 15 minutes while girls are watching tv to do 400 crunches. You get the idea.

So not realistic for me to do the whole thing. But totally realistic to pull ideas from it to shock this old broad to the next level.

Perhaps on the rotation forum some of can share our modified version of this rotation - say the One hour per day version. Wendy, others are you game?

LOL all. You are my daily inspiration!!!!

Cathe designed this for the taking or leaving. I looked it over and said, "NAH, not for me!" but others seem to be having fun with it so that's great!

"You can't please all the people all the time". I think it was Abe Lincoln but I'm not sure :) .

Thanks for your response, Cathe. I really appreciate your encouragement, even for those of us who are attempting vastly modified and altered versions of your rotation:) You're so right...I've already switched things around some to suit my knees and also to allow for my own personal goals, my schedule concerns, and my own stamina. And also because I just don't have all your workouts!

Hi Wendy,
I understand your concern but I feel that Cathe gave a Perfect response. I teach aerobics to mostly beginners/intermediates. I always stress how important it is to modify and I'm proud of them because they do. I do have some students that want a little more. They don't feel "worked out" enough if it's too low level. I always try to give options for them to up the intensity. I also try to challenge them once in a while with a more advanced move. They are amazed when they do it. I have been exercising for years and this rotation is very possible. I once took a "Bootcamp" class for instructors that lasted 5 hrs. I think the lecture lasted about 30 min. The rest was really tough work. My legs were sore the next day but I felt great and had no injuries. Cathe is right about needing to break a plateau. I feel like I needed this right now. If you read the daily check-ins, you will see that some people are actually doing more than the rotation calls for.
I don't think that this is for everyone. If you think it's "too much" then it is. This rotation can be modified easily by leaving out the extras. I wish you luck with whatever rotation you choose to do.:) :)

PS: A girl at work saw Cathe for the first time on FITTV. She came to work and told me that I was crazy. She said she got SOB just watching. It made me smile.:D

Wendy, thanks for posting the question and Cathe, thanks for the reply!:D When I first previewed the rotation, I was simply wishing that I COULD do it! I may have to just print it out and keep it for future reference.;)

SOB? That's a new one to me...since it doesn't seem to mean "son ___ ___ ____", which it's usually an abbreviation for.

Sick of beans?
Sore old bones?
Scars on body?

Hi Kathryn,

SOB- a medical abbreviation for short of breath.

I hope that was her reference :7 .

Ahh! I usually use the notation "OOB" (out of breath) in my workout log when this happens!

Hi Kathryn,

Well now that would be out of bed (OOB). I hope you never get to SOBOE while getting OOB.

Oh Cathe,

Your post startled me. I felt like a little kid that just got busted. I was just having my own fun and you peaked in and caught me. It is funny how every field has their own language.

Like someone said it's a take it or leave it thing. However, I have to agree with you Debbie, on the safety concerns. And I have never seen the point of doing something so repetitive and time-consuming. "Less is more" training is where it's at in my opinion. And I'd match myself against anyone as far as cardio goes.

This is where you are wrong. We are all advanced exercisers, because we do Cathe workouts and have done for at least 10 years. To be advanced does not mean "you only enter this category if you workout over 2 hours per day and do Boot camp back-to-back."

Please do not condescend to the rest of us who do not have the time this rotation demands, or chose to respect their joints by passing on this one, or simply who have other goals: such as myself, I want strength, not the endurance that circuits provide.

We are right to voice concern, and by doing so, we other advanced exercisers are "listening to our bodies" already. We've known how to do that for some time now.

I knew when I first read the Aug Rotation, there might be some backlash. It's the most high intensity and longest rotation I've ever seen of Cathe's ! I knew i would not be joining in this month ;-) but I ALSO knew that even if I DID want to join in and only do half, that's okay too, and I could still feel as though I was 'part of the team'. Cathe knows that she has many home exercising fans who will love this rotation and do it exactly as written. But she also constantly tells us to modify whatever we need to, but stay in a challenging zone for our own bodies. So the rotation is new, fresh and gives those ready for such a great challenge a fun new rotation to do, yet those of us who are not ready for it (and might never be ;-) ) can still join in and do what we can!

Get over it. I have worked out hard-impact since I was 15 years old "running along a beach". I am still going strong. Please don't think I have not made intelligent decisions on certain points. AND, I'm on my feet all day. I am a nurse after all, 10 plus hours a day! I love the endurance because I can use it day to day at work!!! My coworkers have no idea how much I can endure! "smug smile". If you have issues, find what works best for you. NO ONE is condescending. But!!! Why do you want to hold others back? I've alway's thought this is what we last need when it comes to women sticking up for other women.

This is a very doable workout. Thanks Cathe! If you can do it, I can STRIVE to do it!!!!
