I'm feeling MUCH better today. No headache at all. Had a great workout this morning. I chose Strike Zone and I wore my 1# workout gloves. I really love this workout. Very fun and it flies by. I skipped Strike 9 again. I just have no desire to do those spiderwebs. They look like an injury waiting to happen. No thanks.

HR STATS:
55 minutes total
5 minutes below zone
16 minutes in zone
34 minutes above zone
424 calories burned

Then I did the Oxygen Ab Routine that I love doing.

3 trisets - 1 minute rest between each triset:
Hanging Knee Raises - 15/12/10 reps
Bench V-Ups - 15/12/10 reps
Reverse Bench Crunch - 15/12/10 reps
***Reps were cut with each triset. These really burned. I was going to add a 4th set and 8 reps on the last one but was wiped out by the end.

I hear Tracey is working on her second Strike Zone workout, although I don't believe she's calling SZ2. I can't wait!!!

Theresa - Nice supersets!

Diane Sue - Thanks for the link. I'm going to check out Amazon in a few.

Good Morning Maniacs!!!

Today is my rest day. Cleaning is on tap for today.

Linda,

No, I am not working anymore. The lady I was caring for decided to hire a RN fulltime and I am not a RN, but I think she is sorry she let me go and called me back to work just for a day and I told her no. I tried to sell art pictures on ebay for an art gallery, but the pictures did not sell..I think Frank once to try to sell some more so may give it another go.

Diane Sue,

I am doing the December 1 rotation Deb put up last year which has alot of the 4DS workouts in it and Gymstyle, etc. Going to PA on Thursday so that is gonna mess me up with my rotation so will have to wing it in the fitness center...hoping there is gonna be one.

Debbie,

Glad your feeling better today!

Nice workouts! Hope everyone has a great day!

I am tired and had a frustrating morning with the HR monitor
icon_mad.gif
I started out with 4Day Split Kickbox, 3 minutes in I discovered my HR was not showing at all, so I messed with it some, lost it again so went and put some aloe vera on it like Debbie. Well it stayed working but my calorie burn was so low and hr just didn't seem to get up there. I wore my weighted gloves added extra jacks and intensity but Max HR went to only 146 and calories ended up being 189
icon_evil.gif
So I had felt like I wasted all of this time, double checked the settings and got on the treadmill. I ran 3.27 miles did a lot of 8 mph sprints and kept it between 6 and 8.5 mph. HR showed at 165 Max 133 Avg and I burned 311. So I feel like my workout was really stinky. Total calories was 400.
It just doesn't seem right to me. I didn't have time to stretch or cool down before I took the girls to school

Debbie, I believe that there were several youtubes for that workout. The music sounded good and it looked like it would be fun.

Charlotte, I am sure that you will find something at the gym. I need to do cleaning. Just wish I wanted to LOL When grandbaby is here we are struggling for power over the mop and vaccuum.

Theresa, I wish I had your calorie burn. Great workout.

Char - Glad you are liking that rotation. I may do it again after I do P90X. Not sure yet. Sorry the art thing didn't work out. That's a shame.

Diane Sue - Wow on the HRM. What a pain. Mine lost my HR today in the middle of SZ. I was pissed. I hate when that happens. And then the stupid touch thing kept blinking so my HR was gone until it came back up. Took time for it to come back but my minutes added up at the end so I have no clue why it did that. I wonder why yours is giving you so much trouble? I know how annoying that is. I'm sure you still had a great workout and burned more calories then it showed.

I looked for Body Combat on Amazon, nothing came up. If you happen to find it, let me know.

Debbie, I looked at Amazon and all I found was an mp3 music soundtrack for Body Combat. I did more of a search and at about.com they said that the only dvds available are usually sold to instructors with knowledge of anatamy etc.. I did read somewhere else that you might find them on Ebay. I was ready to throw the HR monitor out the door this morning. I do notice that sometimes the numbers will seem to stop moving but then catch up. My old one would do that.

Meals yesterday were as follows:
Lots of soft stuff because I had my temporary crown fall out and then I went to the dentist and finally got the regular on:D

b- oatmeal with protein powder mixed in water on top and 2 Tbs ground almonds, stevia
l-Clean Eating cookbook Maui black bean soup
s- plain yogurt with blueberries, cinnamon,
d- clean eating Sept/oct issue salmon corn chowder
s-yogurt with blueberries and sprinkling of ground almonds

I can chew food today:D

Thanks Diane Sue!! I was going to look more at lunch. I'm really busy here at work today. I'll check out ebay and see what they have. I can relate to the HRM, believe me! LOL!

Hi Maniacs -

This morning I did Jackie Warner's One on One with 5's & 8's since it was a cardio day. Then, I added on Amy Dixon's Give Me 10, cardio & Kettlebell segment and some dance cardio. Workout was 75" and I burned 662 calories. Max HR was 154.

I also did some Yoga, but did not like the DVD....so I don't feel like I did any.

My sinuses must be acting up, as I'm really off balance and dizzy today.

I go for massotherapy later today. I'm off, but I can't stop thinking about tomorrow, as I work open to close.

Deb & Diane Sue - I understand your frustration with HRM's. I'm addicted to mine. I sure wish more peeps liked the touch versions like mine, as I have nothing but good things to say about my Mio Drive! The battery lasts really long, it's easy for me to get reads and I rarely get half reads. The only time I have some trouble with it is when the battery starts to get low, it gets harder to take your HR and you get double reads and half reads more often. Some day, when they get that Epulse perfected to show percentages though, I'm gonna give that a try even though I love my Mio.

I hear Tracey is working on her second Strike Zone workout.

Hi Debbie,
I just wanted to ask, what is this Strike Zone? If your doing it, it must be good..

Thanks Eunice

Not Deb here...but Strike Zone is a cardio kickbox DVD by Tracey Staehle. It has Josef Matthews in it who is a trained kickboxer (he's certifed in a particular sport......the name of which escapes me right now -- but I'm sure I'll think of it as soon as I type this). Josef's form is great in this and this was one of my fave vid's when it first came out. I did it all the time. Here's the link to Tracey's DVDs, just click on Strikezone for a full description and a clip.

Theresa - Nice job on TT & Hill Sprints!

Debbie - ITA- I hate Spiderwebs-I skip them too cause I figure I get enough upper body work else where

Char- Wanna come help me clean?:p

DianeSue - Sorry to hear you are still struggling with your HRM.

Lora - Nice calorie burn!

This morning I Kimberly's Combat Surge but only doing the Med Ball and Kickbox segements (skipped bodybar). Workout was 50 minutes and I burned 400 calories.

Hey Freaky Chics!!

Yesterday was STS legs and yowza today! I also went to the orthodontist and my teeth hurt like crazy so eating is a challenge. Today will be cardio and abs.

Theresa - I need to try me some hill sprints!

Debbie - glad the headache is gone! Is that the same one from a few days ago?? I haven't been checking here since then.

Diane Sue - sorry you are still having issues with the HRM, and I feel your pain on the eating thing :) Hope yours is all better now. I guess that is a quick fix once you get it done.

Hi Linda and Lora, Theresa and Char!! Must go pick up the ol' kiddo and then head to the grocery store for some eats.

Hey, Shana, I watched the 2004 Hawaii Ironman the other night and it made me think of you and those triatholons (sp) you do. I know they are Ironman, but still that's a lot of work, I am impressed!

Okay, all my clean eating cooking maniacs. I am having some one over for coffee tomorrow and I wanted to offer something to nibble on like coffee cake, but didn't want it to be complete junk. Any ideas?

Linda-
what about a "cheesecake". The Crust could be ground up Kashi cereal or something like that, the "cheesecake" could be whipped cottage cheese with a little stevia and vanilla, and you could top it with fresh fruit
Mix 1 cup of lowfat cottage cheese (we prefer Flavorich) with 1/2 cup of Kellogg’s All-Bran cereal and 1 1/2 tablespoon of strawberry seedless All Fruit. Mix together and enjoy. This is an execellent way to get extra fiber in a tasty meal.

Apple and Blueberry Crumble:
1 c. apples, peeled & sliced
1/4 c. fresh blueberries
3 T. Graham cracker crumbs. ( I use lowfat graham crackers)
1/4 t. cinnamon
Dash nutmeg
1 t. reduced-calorie margarine, melted

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Layer apples in a small baking dish. Sprinkle with blueberries. In a bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, cinnamon & nutmeg; mix well. Stir in margarine. Sprinkle graham cracker mixture over fruit. Bake for 30 minutes. Enjoy!
*maybe instead of graham crackers, you could use oats...

To vary this recipe, you can substitute fresh or canned peaches for the apples, and fresh or frozen raspberries or strawberries for the blueberries.

Charlotte, I did house cleaning this afternoon:D

Lora, I have looked at the touch hr monitors but I really do like to have the continuous HR on the screen and the extra features. Is the massotherapy helping?

Linda, the November/December issue of clean eating magazine has a yummy carrot cake recipe in it on page 63. I have made it twice already and it is eaten up quickly. I sometimes make cheese cake substituting light cream cheese and fat free combined and replacing part of the whole eggs with egg whites. Top it with fruit or use some pumpkin in it with spices. I just do no crust or sprinkle ground nuts over the bottomw of the pan.

Shana, I had my temporary crown come off and reattached twice. It was not a pleasant experience. I spent the last month eating a lot of soft food. I had a root canal awhile back and that was one of the most painful experiences. Sorry you are having pain. I am finally done for awhile now.

Theresa and DianeSue, thank you for all the ideas and links. My problem is I don't know my guest's likes or dislikes as far as food goes.

DianeSue
- Would you happen to have that carrot cake recipe?

Linda - yeah, they are a challenge but mine so far have been short ones. Add the Texas heat and humidity and they may as well be 3 times the distance! Next year, I am going to do an Olympic distance and I want to aim for a half. I just don't know if I have it in me to do a full, but it would sure be something else to be able to!

What about banana bread for your guest? Here is a carrot cake recipe from the new clean eating...

4 large egg whites + 1 whole egg, beaten
1/2 c melted coconut butter or oil
1/3 c fruit sugar or 1/2 c sucanat or rapadura sugar
1/3 c unsweetened applesauce
1 tsp apple pie spice
2 tsp grated orange zest
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tsp best-quality vanilla extract
2 c power flour
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp sea salt
4 medium sized carrots, peeled and grated
1/2 c raisins
1/2 c raw, unsalted walnuts
3/4 c dried, shredded coconut (optional)

Preheat oven to 350. Prepare 10 inch springform baking pan by spraying cooking spray or lining with parchment paper. In a large bowl, place beaten eggs adn coconut butter or oil. Mix well. Slowly add sugar and beat together well. Add applesauce, apple pie spice, orange zest, cinnamon and vanilla. Mix well. Add flour, baking soda/powder and salt. Mix well. Add carrots, raisins, nuts and coconut (if using). Stir until combined. Place batter in pan and put in oven, bake for 50 min or until firm in center. Let cool on wire rack.

Power flour is a mix of several flours - I would mix whole wheat and white, or use whole wheat. If you want to make your own apple pie spice: 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp nutmeg, 1/4 tsp allspice, 1/4 tsp cardamom

Debbie, I'm not sure there are actually any youtube clips yet for whatever Tracey is calling Strike Zone 2 (can't recall if the name has been mentioned or not). I just checked and unfortunately all I found was the original strike zone. Maybe I'll pull that one out for cardio this week. It's been a while since I've done it. I think those spiderweb things are fun! =)

I was gonna do the Body Max 2 double upper body premix today, but apparently it's 72 minutes long, and that's longer than I wanted to work out, so I just did one round of BM2 upper body, with abs, then tried to learn combo 4 from Amy's ASC, then practiced my headstands a little. I really enjoy yoga but the balance stuff is challenging.
