I had a minor car accident last night

No injuries--a young lady ran a red light & the result was kind of a side swipe of my bumper (which will likely have to be replaced).

I posted b/c when I got out of the car & yelled "you ran the $%&#* red light!" she answered "I know, I'm so sorry, I was looking at my GPS instead of the traffic light." What the flying fudge? My response: "you're supposed to be watching the ROAD when you're driving!" I mean, this is a 4 lane road & if I & the car in the lane next to me had been 2-3 feet further into the intersection we'd all be hospitalized or dead. I'm still pretty shaken over it.

Ladies, please be careful & pay attention to your surroundings when you're driving. Whether it's your GPS, your cell phone, your factory installed TV/DVD players (or another driver's for that matter)--I'm begging you to turn the damn things off until your car is in park!

You got it! I need to drive for 6 hours tomorrow so I'll be on the lookout. Thanks for keeping me on it.

Laura,

I am so glad you are unhurt.

I admire your spirit. I cannot imagine jumping out of a car (or saying fudge for that matter :)) and confronting a reckless driver after something like that. I'd be too shaken up.

I hear ya Laura! Drives me nuts!:mad: I have driving anxiety issues so I NEVER mess around with anything or talk on the phone etc.
I can't even count how many near accidents I've seen or have almost been in due to some irresponsible driver not watching the road.

Sorry this happened to you and I'm glad you're okay. :)

Well, crap woman. You are having a time of it, aren't you?? Glad you aren't hurt - and good for you for speaking your mind! I was in an accident a few months ago, hit by a teenager going way too fast. I was waiting to turn left, stopped, and there was a car stopped behind me. She hit THAT car, pushed him into me, and pushed me about 6 feet into the median. Talk about a headache that night. I think she was on her cell phone, totally oblivious to the fact that she was driving a possible weapon of mass destruction!!

Laura, glad you were not hurt! I was walking my dog yesterday and every single car that drove past me, the driver was talking on the cell phone..sheesh, whatever did we do before cell phones? I am guilty of this too at times, but really try NOT to talk and drive at the same time..

Laura,

I'm so sorry you got hit! I'm glad it wasn't more serious, but WTH was that driver thinking?? I wish those GPS systems would say things like, "Look up you dope, the light is red!!" What a PITA to deal with this time of year. Take care!

LMAO! See, I think the problem is, some people might actually think a GPS will do that!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes.........my poor new little car! I just want to make sure everyone stays aware. This time of year traffic seems to get heavier & drivers seem to be more distracted, so just a little reminder. :)

I'm glad you are ok Laura, and this is an excellent reminder to watch the road!!! I know I'm one to text while driving and that is just so dangerous. I will NOT be doing that anymore!

Sorry to hear about the accident but glad to hear that you are okay and that is was minor.

I don't use any devices while driving except for my cell phone and I try to keep that at a minimum and very short.

Well, at least the woman apologized and accepted responsibility instead of pulling a weapon on you.

It is nice to hear someone accept responsibility, even in the face of an angry, shaken up driver. I've had the complete opposite experience, where the other driver (who was at fault, mind you) jumped out of his car, swore at me, and then threw his drink at my head. And I hadn't even said anything up to that point ~ I was still trying to figure out what just happened.

Yeah, I was trying really hard to be pissed but that pretty much took all the wind out of my sails & I ended up feeling bad for her. She seemed very sweet (she was around 25) & everyone makes mistakes.

Difference being most mistakes don't kill people.

Well, now she's not taking my calls & her ins. co. (State Farm) says I don't have sufficient info for them to help me (so her name, temp tag no., VIN no. & the state in which she lives isn't sufficient info. I should have her address.).

NOW I'm getting pissed.

Edit: Hmmm this is interesting. I told them my next call would be to my lawyer & they miraculously found her info.

And she never called them, as she had promised she would.

Did the police come to the scene of the accident (and make a report/ticket?) Even if the other insurance company is being a pain, that should take care of it.

I once had someone back out of a space in a parking lot right into the side of my car, get out, and apologize profusely ("Oh, I was in a hurry and didn't even LOOK!"). She gave me all her info, the damage was minor, and I didn't worry about it at the time. Later, it's just like you said...she never called me (to confirm that she'd rather take care of it without insurance, to avoid increasing her rates, which is what she said initially). I had to call her, and could hear her husband coaching her in the background. Somehow, now she thinks it could be either person's fault, etc. I had not gotten the names of any witnesses (there were plenty) or requested/waited for the police to make a report. I am generally a trusting person, but learned this lesson - always get police/witness info, no matter how clear the situation seems. Luckily, the cars themselves told such an obvious story with the damage patterns that my insurance company was able to get the other company to cover everything, but it turned into a major hassle for me and my insurance company to make it happen(phone time, dealing with people's attitudes, and having to take my car to 4 different places for estimates/repairs).

Glad you weren't hurt, and hope you can reach a resolution with a minimum of hassle.
