Turkish get ups

Anyone do these? I LOVE this exercise. Functional fitness at its best. I learned this with my old sports circuit instructor (among many other things) and have incorporated this lately into my Cathe-izing.

Check 'em out if you don't know what I mean:

On a side note - I have revisited Cathe with my son out of summer school & have been doing the BC rotation for a lighter weights, endurance based hit. Yep, she still KILLS me :p

I do Turkish get ups. I was first introduced to them in a fitness boot camp where we used a dumbbell now I do with them a kettlebell. :D

They look interesting...I bet my DH would like them too.

(The name is funny though...thought the thread was about an exotic costume of some sort, LOL!)

I've never heard of them. Would you recommend them for someone with low back pain/problems?

Turkish get ups are great for the core area. I know that working with kettlebells can actually help with back problems, however, I can't recommend it from experience. I would suggest trying the move first without weight and see how you feel. You don't need to use a heavy weight with this exercise. I use lighter weight with this move.

I never heard of these before.
I am going to try them.
By the way I love the link that shows the exercise.
You can view it from three angels. That's so cool!
Thank you.

jojijodi I thought it was some kind of outfit too.
I keep waiting for something to replace those loud maternity tops that are the fashion now.

Turkish get ups are fantastic. Fires your core like crazy and really tests your power/endurance.

I do these right now with a 20 lb dumbbell. 2-3 sets of 10 each arm.

I LOVE TGUs!! I work them into a workout at least once a week, sometimes with windmills.

I usually do them with a KB or dumbbell, but lately have been trying to use an unloaded 15lb barbell as well. The added length of the barbell creates a whole other balance challenge in itself.

Awesome old school exercise. :D

I would make my bootcampers do it without touching the ground with the other hand. Muahaha...
