Yoga X cannot like it!

I just can't get into the Yoga. I have P90X and it's my second week. I was suppose to do YogaX this morning and I didn't. Ladt week, I did only 30 minutes. I find it boring but I know it's good for you. It is tough to hold these poses. But it repeats so much, I don't like it.

I want to get into it. I want to be more flexible and stronger by holding these poses. May be I will try a weeknight thi week. The thing is I am used to workout 5 times a week and adding a day is not so easy. it's like I need these 2 days off but P90X is 6 days and I dislike the streching too in P90X. I love Cathe Stretch Max. It's comfortable and feel good. But P90X Yoga and stretch are not relaxing. And do not strech so nicely.

But I love the restof the serie. I like a change fom Cathe. But Cathe is always my #1 favorite.

I hate upward dog and he does that so many times.... I want to like it. Plz help

Anyways. Any advice?

I agree that YogaX is not relaxing!! I would just do 30-40 minutes of it at a time. Do different segments so that you'll get the benefit. I hated it at first too. But once I started doing it I loved the results. Hmm, maybe I should pull it out and try it again :p

When I went through P90X I also did not like the yoga at all!! It made me cranky becuse I couldn't get the moves. I did stick with it & two things happened. 1) I got a terrible pain in my foot to where I could hardly walk. At first I had thought it was from the plyometrics which at the time I wasn't used to doing like he does. Later realized it was all those tiny muscles in my foot. It took quite a while before I got completely better. 2) I did stick with the yoga (wore shoes!!) & I noticed I got better at it. Now when I do Cathe's StretchMax & she goes into warrior I can do it!!! :D:D:D
So stick with it & you'll get it. I know what you're saying about the repetition - B-O-R-I-N-G!!! Maybe someone can recommend a better yoga dvd for ya.

Good Luck

I don't have any advice for you. I just wanted to say that I'm in the same boat-I really dislike YogaX. Last week was Week 1 for me and I skipped the yoga. I tried it the last time I did P90X and I hated it. So now I just skip it. I am thinking about getting another shorter yoga dvd instead.

If you need the extra day off, take it. Otherwise, you may get burned out by the whole program. It's a great program even without the yoga.

Good luck!

I have done 5 rounds of P90X and the yoga X is my least favorite workout and I teach Yoga!! Like fit fairy said, just do portions of it until you get used to it and things will be easier. The repetition in the workout is essential since you muscles are warming up and getting used to the motions so by the end of the segments you can hold the poses.

Be patient, breath, stay in the moment, pay attention to your body and you will soon love the asanas.

Ok, guess I'll break the trend here;) I've only done YogaX 3 times in total. The first time I did it - I felt it was WAY too long....the second time I really breathed and relaxed and it was alot better. I decided I had the time yesterday so I pulled it back out! I still think it's too long, however I'm feeling really good today! (and sore in some places :D IMO the first 30 minutes are pretty repititious!

Can anybody recommend a really good yoga dvd?

If you skip the 1st 15 minutes, the program will seem less repetitive. 90 minutes is too long for me, so I fast forward to the juicy stuff and skip some of the stretches, for about a 60 minute workout. It took me a while to get into YogaX. While I'm not a huge yoga fan (I don't consider yoga to be a workout), I think this is a very good workout for improving flexibility and core. It also aids with muscle recovery. I'm A LOT more flexible now because of yogaX. But I consider it a rest day.

I couldn't get into Yoga X either. Not that I don't do long yoga workouts but Tony's just not a good yoga instructor. Plus, there are way too many salutations and warrior poses and not enough of other poses. See if you can try Baron Baptiste, David Swenson, Shiva Rea. All will give you a much better yoga practice and you won't dread doing it so much.

I have a love/hate with P90x Yoga. I hated it at first but then loved it because it was a tough workout and was the first yoga I did that didn't bore me out of my skull. But now I rarely do it because Tony talks to much during it. Instruction is good and necessary but after you've done it twenty times all the blather just becomes tedious, especially when it means you have to hold the pose for all eternity. And 90 minutes of yoga is often more than I want. I like Baron Baptiste. He instructs too but there's a lot more flow to his routines.

Yoga is a huge part of my life. I'm not familiar with YogaX but it sounds like it's a part of the P90X series.

I really think it is beneficial to take some classes from a knowledgeable teacher before beginning a home practice. I do understand that not everybody wants to get into the whole yogic lifestyle but truly you will get the best advice, practice, and results under the guidance of a knowledgeable teacher.

If you are looking for a DVD i would suggest getting one by someone that lives the lifestyle as opposed to a fitness instructor putting out a yoga DVD.
Shiva Rea has some nice DVD's, Ali McGraw also made a good DVD with a reputable yoga teacher, If you are looking for some shorter sessions, there was a really well done yoga show called Namaste that is available on DVD (each episode/session is under 1/2 hr).

I also think Cathe's Stretch Max DVD is excellent with the three shorter segments if you don't want a long session. I also like the fact that although she does some yoga asanas on this DVD, it is marketed as a stretch DVD as opposed to a yoga DVD. I think that was really professional of her since yoga practice encompasses so much more then just the asanas. She could have jumped on the yoga trend but instead she put out a really good stretch DVD with the band and stability ball added in for a nice mix.
