X-Train and Weight Gain?

Okay, I know all the possible reasons, and I'm trying to remain positive, but I'm still a bit frustrated. I'm on week 2 of the 90 day undulating rotation. I've gained over 4 pounds and almost an inch in my waist. I've tried to eat very clean--I even gave up my beloved dark chocolate. Yesterday I was super careful on calories because I was doing Bi's and Tri's, so not much calorie burn there. I was up 2 pounds this morning since yesterday. Yeah, I know it's not 2 lbs of fat gained in one day, but still . . . . Yes, I have been drinking plenty of water and getting enough protein. And, no, I didn't go below 1200 calories.

I guess I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. I know it's probably just water retention and I need to hang in there, but I so want to get rid of this dang muffin top.

And, yes, I've gotten out the notebook and am back to tracking and zig-zagging calories. How I hate that!!!!

Yup...I have the same problem. I gained a pound or two and I have been eating fairly clean and really watching the calories. I attributed it to water retention too. I would give it another two weeks or so before it goes away. I know with STS, I was all over the place until Meso #3. The end results though was lots of gained muscle and my weight went down about 10 lbs.

I would say the weight "gain" is mostly water. You also said you ate "mostly" clean. Try to eat super clean, eat at least 90% clean 10% cheat (that's 2 cheat meals a week). I also recommend not measuring so soon. I would measure once a month. And when measuring take the same measurement 3 times and taking the average. Its hard to get the tape in the same spot every time, especially if you are doing it yourself.

Thanks, I just needed to hear from someone else who is experiencing the same thing. It helps me to be able to be patient and keep working at it.

The only variance I've had from eating super clean was having a serving of dark chocolate a day. I've been without for 2 days now. I'll just hunker down and be more patient. Thanks for the support.

I usually gain weight with heavy training like STS. Im on my 2nd week of 90day rotation & yes gained 1-2lbs! Not frustrated because it is just how it is with heavy lifting! I am getting stronger

Thanks for your reply. I guess it does make more sense when I remember that it's Burn Sets this week, and I've thrown in a bicep and hip thrust 100 rep challenge.

I too am having the same issue...hoping it will go back done
I struggle with seeing a larger number...hopefully it will adjust sooner than later.

I'm glad I checked out this post because I too have gained a couple and have been really good with my eating. I'm on my 2nd week of XTrain as well. So I don't get so down on myself I have been telling myself it's water gain and try and not freak out. I hate seeing a higher number on the scale.

My advice is going to be a bit drastic. DITCH THE SCALE FOR THE NEXT 4-6 WEEKS! If you give up now or get discouraged by daily scale fluctuations, you won't be able to see the end result: sexy, sculpted, hard-earned muscles, and a noticeably more toned and fit YOU. Please *try* to be patient. It's SO worth it :).

While doing STS, I never weighed myself once. I refused to do so. Instead I focused on how my body looked in the mirror and how my clothes fit. With Xtrain, I plan on doing the same. I'm sure I have gained a few lbs, and I really could care less. I know by the loosening of my pants (jeans never lie ;)) that Xtrain is agreeing with me. Bring on the muscles baby!:D;)

Good luck!

The first time I tried STS I gained 8# in less then a month! I wanted to cry!!!Everyone said it's just water and it will go away but that's an awful lot of water weight if you ask me so I stopped STS, moved on to a different work out style and was able to lose the extra poundage and fit back into my clothes properly again.

Fast forward several months later, I tried STS for second time but this time I was on Weight Watchers while I did the program and I was successful. I lost weight...very slowly...but I lost instead of gaining so I was happy. I was being VERY careful with my food intake though!

Just thought I'd share a similar experience. :)

Can't comment on XTrain because I haven't started a rotation yet....

This is probably the best advice to adhere to at this point.

I haven't started XTrain personally, but instead have been doing Trisets mostly since the beginning of the month. I jumped 4 pounds in less than a week. I ditched my scale. I tried on some jeans and if it were anything other than retention, my jeans would be tight. They aren't, in fact the opposite is slowly happening.

I wish that would happen to me! You are lucky! Never in my life have my jeans gotten looser when the # on the scale goes up!
Guess that's why I continue to weigh myself!

It's funny that you wrote that because it's exactly what I told my neighbor to do so she wouldn't freak out if she gained weight. I am a space cadet though because I keep forgetting that and I'll ask her if she lost weight because she looks thinner to me then. She'll then remind me that I told her NOT too!

In all honesty Wendy, I do not consider myself "lucky". I am very cautious about what I eat and how much I eat. I do not give myself permission to be "laxed" with my eating habits, thinking that just because I am training hard I won't gain body fat (cuz' trust me, I can gain fat as easily as anyone else ). My approach to ditch the scale is definitely not suited for everyone, but it is the best thing FOR ME. I have no clue as to what my weight is at this moment...I have not weighed myself since summer 2012. I feel fit & healthy, and that's all that matters right now :).

All the best :)
