WW Momentum Plan, Unmotivated DH

Has anyone tried this plan? I am thinking of joining and am hoping to get my DH to join too. I have less than 10 pounds to lose but he has 20 or so.

The only problem is that he doesn't really have any desire to eat better or workout. He was in great shape when we met 6 years ago but now has no desire to eat good or workout. His diet consists of diet soda, lots of bread and carbs and cookies and candy. He does not work out at all.

I try and work out 30-60 minutes a day, depending on my schedule. I have to get rid of those last few baby pounds.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I started back w/ WW a few weeks ago. Their momentum plan is like a hybrid of their Flex and Core programs if you've ever done WW before.

I have a Dh that needs to lose 140lbs (yup, that's a 1 in the front out there) and he has no motivation, not even after being on bp & cholesterol meds since his early 20's and a CPAP machine.

If the motivation's not there it's tough to make it appear no matter what program you do, believe me he's tried them all! He did do WW a few years ago and actually stuck w/ that program the longest losing 70lbs before he quit and gained it all back.

For me, the real motivation comes from having to pay to attend the meetings and knowing that once I make lifetime I dont' have to pay anymore. I also live for the darn stickers. Sounds stuipd as all get out, but they give you stickers for every 5lbs you lose and other milestones and those things really make me feel like i'm doing something.

Do you like the new plan? I followed the Flex plan last summer and did well. I didn't go to meetings. I just took the info from my mom who is lifetime member. Do you go to meetings or do the online plan? I am wondering if it is worth signing up or just doing what I did over the summer.

As far as my DH I am at a loss. He really doesn't care even though he has high cholesterol and BP and is on meds for both. I wish that he would see that he is quickly headed down a bad road as he ages.

On the topic of your DHs.....I agree that if HE doesn't have the motivation, it won't matter one iota what you say or do. All you can do is DO IT FOR YOURSELF and maybe, MAYBE, when he sees the success and the results, he'll step up and start 'seeing' it for himself.

My SO is overweight.....he's gained about 40# since we started dating a year ago. High blood pressure, meds, migraines from them both, and every weekend for the past 3 months, I've heard, "that's it, this Monday I'm doing it". Then it's the weekend again and nothing. You really can't MAKE somebody do it, so just DO IT YOURSELF and see how he reacts.

GOOD LUCK!

I follwed Flex before and the new plan is pretty much the same as flex. The difference is that they identify some foods as "filling foods" (i.e. the old core foods) and really encourage you to add as much of those as you can. They are also talking more about exercise then they did in the past which I love. If you were Core I'd say there is a big difference but I don't see a HUGE difference from Flex to Momentum.

I have to go to meeting to keep myself accountable. I need to know that someone else will be seeing my weight each week or I just dont' care as much. I do love their e-tools though. I get those free since I use their montly pass. They help keep me on track since i'm a bit of a computer geek. I like entering all of my info in.

I'd definitely say the motivation has to be there.

You can encourage him though! 8 years ago, after having my last child, I started WW'ers and DH did it with me. I basically counted all his points, and he just ate what I gave him for meals. He never exercised. Well, he lost a bunch of weight and felt great. maybe if you "help him" along more?

A question about the new plan too:Have they "done away" with Core, then? Or do you have an option of Core or Momentum?

I'm joining with DW next month. I have never been one to concern myself too much with what the scale says. Being recently diagnosed with high blood pressure helped to change my outlook, but that's not the only reason for the decision.

I feel better when I'm eating right, and I want DW to stay on track, so if she sees me sticking to it, it betters the chance she will as well.

Yes, they have basically done away with the Core plan and merged the two. There is now a "filling foods" list which they encourage you to eat from. The list is basically the old Core foods. However, no matter what you eat, you count the points. In the planner there is an option to follow the plan without counting the "filling foods" like the old Core. However, you don't find the information (limited as it was) on the website. I just stopped WW actually because of this. There was limited info about Core anyway and now to basically do away with a plan that focused on healthy eating as opposed to whatever you want within a certain points limit didn't match with my goals. I am trying to eat better not just less chocolate cake:p!

It's almost impossible to motivate someone else. I'm very lucky with my husband, he's really into keeping himself in shape.

I think the only thing you can do is lead by example. I know when I'm not particulary inspired that I can't slack off, I can't have DH looking too much better than me! We also do a lot of mountain hiking and I have to make sure I can keep up.

I totally agree, Carrie!! That's crazy!

I did the Flex way of eating to lose the weight I did. it worked. But.. over the course of 5 years, I've found that Core really was the heathier way to eat and to live.

I only ever did the "at Home" program, where they sent all the materials in books and directions. I never did meetings or payed for online.

My sister lost 175 pounds with Weight Watchers - and gained back about 75 of it. While on the program she would have blackouts because she would use up all her points on alcohol. I lost 125 pounds just eating differently and working out and being treated for sleep apnea. I have gained back 30, most of which is stress related. However, even with the extra weight, I am in much better shape.

Honestly, I think the new plan is like a hybrid of Flex & Core. Having done both, I favor Core in general because of the emphasis on healthy foods. Apparently many leaders are "fast forwarding" previous Core followers to "Simply Filling", which is introduced in Week 6 and is apparently largely Core with a new name.

That said, I'm counting points right now because I need to get portions more under control for EVERYTHING I choose regardless of the "quality" of the food.

Oh! So in the "Simply Filling" portion, you don't count points?

That would make ok sense then!

That's my understanding (and what it looked like when I first rejoined and was on "Simply Filling" because I had been on Core previously). I haven't investigated a whole lot since I'm after the points accountability @ the moment.

I think the problem w/ Core was many people not really understand when they were satisfied vs full. So you ended up w/ some people overeating still even though it was healthy food. I like that they've put the two together. To me it's saying, this is how to eat healthy and be healthy, but this other part of it is to keep you in check and make sure you're not overeating the good stuff!

ITA that the "eat whatever you want as long as it's w/i your points" mentality was flawed. When I first started WW back before I got pg I'd live off of 4 points all day and then cash the rest in on pizza when I got home! Definetly not a healthy way to go about it and I figured that out eventually!

I also like that (at least at my meeting) they are talking more about exercise. Before they kind of skimmed over that part and if they did discuss it they were talking about a casual walk around the block. We've been having lots of great conversations about working out in my meeting (which is amazing considering half the people are close to the age of my grandparents!). My leader also stressed the importance of not overestimating how hard you were working when using the points slider.

They have also made it so that you use your weekly "extra" points before you touch your activity points. They want you to see exercise as a daily healthy habit, not a way to earn more food which was always something that bothered me about the program before.

From what I understood reviewing the new program, you still counted points but were encouraged to eat from the "simply filling" food list. Hopefully, they will move it more toward not counting and just eating from that list and using your 35 weekly points for the "extras" we all seem to use.

I am interested in what happens at week 6 as well. That should be coming up pretty soon for most people who transitioned to it.

I just started back last week online -I'll go to my first meeting tomorrow. I've done Flex in the past and did lose 55 pounds. I still have about 30 to lose. What I LOVE about the revamped/revised plan is that you use your Weekly Allowance Points before dipping into your activity points. And the activity points no longer have to be used(eaten) on the same day they are earned. Not sure why but the past activity point rule really bugged me. I'm excited to be back on the "WW Wagon" :D
