WW Check In- Saturday 12/9

Cathlete
Just starting us off so that Traci can sleep in!;-)

I think that today will be something step, although I'd like to go running, but it's been a tad bit chilly for that. Either way, it's a cardio day.

Work is going okay tonight! Last night (well, *my* last night anyway;-) -Thursday night) was my "free" night and I took full advantage of it....and a bottle of wine! Yes, you read right, a full bottle! I also found that I should not drink and shop at the same time! I picked this up for myself, and can't wait to get it in the mail next week!
http://a1708.g.akamai.net/7/1708/110/AH0612816455510/www.shopnbc.com/media/products/A/A15882_400.jpg

I got it in a pretty blue color, so it should be fun. Cool thing is that it's got lacing in the back made of matching ribbon (a bit like corset lacing).

When I got up tonight, I was a bit frustrated with DH. I asked him to get the mail and he said, "No". I said, "Excuse me?" I think then he realized that I really don't ask much of him and he ended up going out to the mailbox (it's really NOT far). It took me aback a bit, though!

Amy SOOOO Happy to see you early this morning... Havent caught up on last nites stuff but I woke up really worried about DH & fall in bathroom and not seeing you yesterday.... I am so happy you were just get snockered & shopping!!!!!!!! :7 Cute Cute Cute jacket!
Way to go on scale loss this week woman! lol...Why do we think its broken when it goes down???lol

Lori: Your rotation sounds like it will get great results... I've heard nothing but good stuff by all who have done it. Keep up the good work!

Two rest days in a row felt WONDERFUL! I had not 1 moment of guilt or angst..........
Today I pick up my P90X rotation. CardioX + Ab Ripper
Then I simply MUST start cleaning the house for next Saturdays in law infestation... I mean Christmas Party}(

Guess thats it for me now.... Hope Cheryl is having huge amounts of fun in San Fran and hope that Claude is still be woooo'ed by DH...... I really need to get a life!:p

Traci- Yes, I was getting schnockered and shopping AFTER making sure DH was in bed and STAYING there!!! He has a tendency of getting up and wandering around because he gets bored!!! I am just glad that he didn't fall again and I'd have to take him to the ER! I am glad that your rest days felt good....that means they were very, very necessary!! Do you want to come and clean my house too, when you're done???}( I have to do a thorough job for when Mom and Dad arrive.x( (only because I HATE cleaning!!!)

Good morning Amy and Traci!!

Amy - I'm glad your DH wasn't hurt from his fall. I'm also not a big fan of housecleaning either!! The jacket is beautiful!!! I love it. I was LOL at your inebriated shopping spree!

Traci - you are going to be sooo much stronger when you do your workout since you took the rest you needed.

My workout today is the timesaver blast from LIC/200 crunches/1 min bike maneuver/1 min prone plank and then off to MIL's for a day of baking (keep me in your prayers! ACK!)

I'm not feeling very strong right now. I'm tracking my eating habits to try to find a pattern. My mid-cycle time is fast approaching and I another hiccup yesterday with way too many carbs. I stuck to good overeating though, no junk in the house thank goodness but I still overate!!! I'm just not sure what is making me go over the edge. I had a bad time Monday with ice cream, overate a little bit Wed and then again yesterday. I don't know what is going on! The scale showed no upward movement this morning and I'm actually down 1/4 inch in my hips. I could be too restricted on calories but that's why I finally bumped up my base point to 24 (which should have been done the first week of Nov when I met goal) this week starting on Wed. Maybe it hasn't had time to take hold yet.

Sorry about the rant! I'd better get busy with my workout so I can get out of here and face the day of baking. I am so looking forward to the time together with MIL and DD, why does it have to be dampered by my insecurities with food!

Jane, I hope that you have a good day baking with MIL! I hope you are able to relax and not be so hard on yourself with the eating either! I actually keep more track of total calories per day instead of points, but it comes out that I average about 32-34 pt/day (1600-1700 cals). Since doing that I have actually become a much more relaxed eater and not so obsessed with how much I eat, and as a result, a much nicer person to be around (as well as seeing a more steady downward trend on the scale, unlike my recent rants about the scale being broken!). I guess that I was finding that although WW was helping me rein in my horrible habits, eventually with the workouts, it was TOO restrictive, and I just was super grumpy, frustrated, and pissy! Either way, I hope that you have a good day, and if you enjoy the fruits of your labors today, who cares???

I will be the first to proclaim that, "A moment on the lips is NOT a lifetime on the hips....just a really long time!!!";-)

Traci- It took me a bit to think about your question about why we rant about the scale being broken, even when it moves down. I think that it's all because it's not moving down as fast as WE want it to, therefore, it must be broken!!!:7

Hi, everyone!

I'm back. Didn't get back from the airport until MIDNIGHT and had been up since 4:30 a.m. Killer! Did get some walking in between meetings and did manage to keep my eating on program all day. Hurray! Even ate the spinach and grape tomatoes for dinner at the airport that I'd packed in ziplock bags in my purse, along with a square of dark chocolate. Yum! I had packed a grapefruit cup, too, but the airport security took it... more than 3 oz fluid... GRUMBLE!!!!

Deciding what to do this morning. Will probably eck out one of the Cathe workouts even though I'm really tired. The Scrambled Eggs premix is beckoning, but I am leading toward something that includes abs... will report back in later.

Jane, hang in there our friend!! It sounds like your progress hasn't stopped, just slowed a little with your eating frustrations.

Traci, glad you're enjoying your rest. So badly needed!! (hugs)

Amy, love the jacket!!! I have two that are similar in hot pink and lime green... a favorite for PR meetings...

Have a great morning, everyone!
Cheryl

Amy: great thought on scale rant mystery.... Here's another burning ? in my brain......If we know the scale lies whether up or down....WHY DO WE HAVE SCALES & WHY DO WE JUMP ON THEM ALL THE TIME!
Ponder that oh wise one:eek:

Jane: {{{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}} on your frustrations right now. First and foremost remember that all of us have been there/done that/will be there again.... thats just the way our wonderful female bodies are made.
One of the things doing P90X/my P90 Check In group is teaching me ~~and very clearly I might add...
~~Food is about nurturing the body so we can do what we'd like with it. Food isnt about the scale or the inches or anything but fuel for body. How we fuel it, when we fuel, & even why we fuel it determines the difference in every aspect of our wt loss/maint journey.

For me since I am all focused on gaining strength and losing BF I just simply dont have a lot of mind time left in the day to think about pts/cals (although I do track cals). My P90X eating plan is about quality and timing of foods in my body and proper replenishment after exercise... the BF has gone down dramaticly/the scale is starting to follow and the calories have gone way up.

Living my life at 1000-1200 calories is not good for my mind or body so in order to eat more and not be hungry I have to select foods that are good for my body. Cant eat 1600 calories of ding dongs and expect to lift weights and do Cathe all day.

I guess I go into all this because I need to re-inforce all I am learning and finding true as 40 years of old thinking can de-rail me in a moments notice.

I am finding that foods eaten cause a chemical reaction to foods desired.... When I start on sugar I'm sunk- So when I decide to have something sweet I make darn sure its not a full tub/box because I'll eat whats there.

Just an interesting thought to share: I came off of Sweet n Low 3 weeks ago after reading so much how it causes huge sugar/carb cravings... You know I drink at least 2 pots of coffee a day and I used a packet in each one. I switched to Splenda exactly 3 weeks ago and I have to tell you that for the first time in my memory I had ZERO cravings during PMS & period. I was absolutely shocked! Combine the NO sweet n low in coffee w/ NO "low fat" "no sugar" desserts that have it in them by the tons and I think I found a "cravings trigger" that is now turned off. Very empowering thing for me! Just a thought for you as well.
Anyway~~~ We are all here for you... try to enjoy every moment of your memory making weekend and know YOU ARE OK JUST AS YOU ARE! All the rest of the improvements are just additional goodies for the world!

CHERYL` {{{{{{welcome home!}}}}}}}}}}}} We so missed you!!!!!
I am still cracking up over airport security confiscating your fruit cup.....OMG that is HYSTERICAL!
You're nuts even considering Scrambled Eggs after a no sleep night!
Enjoy home ground and have a great nap, workout or whatever your day will bring!

Hi everyone....I am going to do Drill Max today. I have a Christmas party tonight. I have some Flex points saved, but I probably won't need a whole lot of them.

My dad goes in Tuesday. I have really been stressing about this. I just would like for it to be over, and for him to be ok.
Lori

Hi again!!
Made it only through 45 minutes of BodyMax2 and 15 min on the treadmill. Dragging!

Traci - wow, huge discovery on the sweeteners. I am reading and hearing from my doctor that artificial sweeteners are a huge problem and a huge no-no. I'm still guilty of a few diet root beers here and there... but I think there's truth to it. Wow, so glad you honed in on that - I suspect it's a huge key.

Here's to a great Saturday everyone! Onward and upward!

Cheryl

Hi everyone!!

I'm so sorry I've been MIA for so long, but work has been keeping me a very busy gal these days. I just got back from a work trip last night and am pooped, but I think I am going to do a timesaver premix of either KPC or Low Max--we'll see what I have the energy for ;).

Did anyone see that they've now implemented the new flex program changes on WW online? They now have a personal points quiz. According to the quiz, my new weight loss points target is 19, instead of 20. I lost a point! :(

For those of you who may have already taken it, what did you put for your "main occupation" activity level? I thought it was asking me about my activity level at my job, which, truthfully, is mainly sedentary (I walk to meetings and such, but it's walking a few feet--not really much by way of activity). Based on that, they determined that I'm mostly sedentary, so I guess that's how my points total went down (that and I'm in my 30's now, so I have the slower metabolism). The thing is, just because my JOB is sedentary doesn't mean my life is! As you guys well know, I'm very active as far as working out, which, as I understand it, does boost a person's metabolism, no? If that's the case, should I interpret that activity level question as my general activity level on a daily basis? Or is it asking me about my activity level outside of officially "working out"? It does make a big difference; if I answer that question by saying that I do a lot of walking in my "main occupation," my points total goes up to 23 points.

I'm confused :(.

I think I should just go to a meeting tomorrow and ask...

Jennifer

Afternoon Check In Gang!

cranked out P90X CardioX & Ab Ripper.. burned 469cals in my zone (& above) in just about 62 minutes... not bad for a P90 cardio day.

Lori: Drill Max should help work out some of that stress. {{{{{{{Tuesday}}}}}}}}}} I'll hold the thought that it will be a good day for you and your family.

Cheryl: I'm impressed w/ your workout today! You did great and your body probably appreciates a little break today (not that you didnt do a FULL workout!) YES it was an exciting find on artificial sweetner... I forgot until you mentioned it but I had also cut out Diet Coke & Diet Rootbeer... those used to be my PM desserts

Jennifer: So happy to hear you were just busy... if you ever peruse past posts we all have been wondering if you were OK. Now we're just missing Corinne....
RE the New WW..... ok I gotta confess (please dont kick me out of check-in) its been awhile since I counted points. I took the little test that Amy got scoop on weeks ago and I knew it was keeping me at 19-20 points...no way ray!.
I switched to P90X eating plan 6 weeks ago and my calories jumped to 1600 (32pts)-1800(36pts) a day and I'm losing Wt, inches & BF. I didnt change a thing in terms of my selection of foods as it was and is 90-95% clean.
I just dont believe that I can work out at all & eat so little and have it be healthy . In early stages of WW I lost but extreme deficeit will do that-eventually my metabolism just shut down. I still think WW is a great program to help shift some self defeating lifestyle habits. The great majority of people on WW rarely exercise and walking is the exercise of choice. (thats what I got from WW Boards) I think its a great program exactly as is for that segment. It just wasnt for me anymore.

Are you following your new nutritionists advice & guidelines? How does that compare to the new WW Plan in terms of calories / points?
Bottom Line Jennifer is that if you already know what doesnt work for your body then you need to stop banging your head... Follow points if thats easiest for you but add a few a day until something pops for you ... You gotta find your own sweet spot. Good Luck... Its all so confusing isnt it? Keep posting w/ us regardless of what you decide to do... We've come to kinda luv ya!

Wow, Traci, congratulations on the results you're seeing!! :) :)

I have been following the nutritionist's advice, and have been a little "loose" on the points tallying. I'm proud to say I'm really starting to make better food choices. I still eat the occasional cookie or muffin LOL, but overall, I'm making a much more conscious effort to make sure I'm getting my daily recommended servings of fruit and veggies, as well as eating more whole grain. The last one I'm especially making an effort on, since that's what I tend to cut back the most to save on points (even though I haven't been tracking points all that well lately, I do still have that mentality, I guess ;)).

As for results, at least the scale stopped inching upwards LOL. I haven't lost any weight, really; mainly it's been fluctuations (losing and gaining the same 2 pounds), which I can live with, as long as the scale isn't going UP. That said, I'd be lying if I said that I didn't want to lose those pesky 3-5 pounds once and for all ;).

I haven't taken any formal measurements, but my clothes as fitting the same way--no tighter and no looser, so my guess there is that my measurements haven't changed significantly.

So I'm basically maintaining, which is good, although as I mentioned, if I could make even a teeny bit more progress, I'd be thrilled ;).

Jennifer

PS Traci, in a previous thread, you had mentioned a site that helps you figure out calorie counts for food--could you point me in that direction? :)

Also, now that you're counting calories instead of points, do you still give yourself a "weekly allowance"? Just curious to know what that weekly allowance is for you... One of the reasons WW worked so well for me is that I knew I could sneak in extra points when I needed to splurge, but because I'm so programmed to think in points, rather than calories, I'm not sure what the ideal number would be to start experimenting with as far as weekly allowance calories...

Thanks in advance :)

Jennifer, my question is, do you still get to count AP's, or are they totally out of the equation now??
Lori

Jennifer-
Amy turned me onto Sparkspeople.com- free and fabulous!

I have tracked caloric/point intake & calories burn in an excel spreadsheet for over a year now so I do indeed see patterns!

My food intake on no gain weeks is always in the 11,200 - 12,500 range per week. Those weeks I also burn in the 2100-3100 range (HRM). I count strength as well as cardio - the only calories I do not count as burn are abs unless I stay in my "zone".

When I look back at weeks I burned over 4000 calories my weight stalled... I just couldnt eat enough clean calories to keep up w/ that kind of burn... so for me there is definitly a point of diminishing return w/ too much exercise. Thats why w/ your half marathon trainings I just think you may have thrown your body into starvation mode and its just taking awhile to adjust now. No gain-no loss usually indicates that your body is just stabilizing. You were burning major calories for so many months.... I was always concerned about long term metabolic effect. I ran a marathon in 99 after training for 6 months and for 8 months after that my body freaked out on me. ... & you were doing multiple runs!

Also keep in mind that even clean food is processed differently by everyones body... For me whole grains can be 1 serving a day... I have to get most of my carbs from Sweet potatoes & veggies or I bloat...for days. Even my high fiber whole grains have to be limited
x(

PM me any time if you'd like to talk about it all.... :)

Hi everybody...

I survived cookie day! I had three straight out of the oven and then had a couple more later in the day. That was really too many but I feel satisfied and hopefully I can keep from eating them like that the rest of the month. Overall I ate well today. Had some dried broiled shrimp and a baked potato for supper.

Traci - I appreciate what you said. I think I need to start tracking calories again on fitday like I did when I was zigzagging. I think I am suffering from too few calories, especially with the workouts I do. I've also been reading on the WW website about triggers/temptations/cravings.... good information on there...one thing that it mentioned, and I know it is true for me, is exhaustion. I woke up at 3:20 Friday morning and just got up and went to work. We are so far behind at work, they are begging for OT. I ate too much at lunch and then it snowballed from there.

Lack of sleep, being overly tired, and midcycle are my worst enemies, and I'm in midcycle now.

I'm just going to keep plugging along and hope to maintain during this month. I think it will help that there is more strength training in Cathe's rotation this month.

Amy - thanks for your thoughts too. I don't think 20 points are enough for me, that's why I bumped it up to 24 this week where it should have been anyway. I did the points quiz for the new WW system on their website and it said 23 points. I'm losing a point! Instead of only eating 4 of the APs, I believe I'll start eating them all. I need to play with this and see if I can find the formula that works for me.

Thanks everyone for your support.

Hi Lori,

I'm pretty sure we still get to count AP's :). I would hope so, since I can't see how people could sustain themselves on 19 points a day--even with the weekly allowances!

Jennifer

Actually, it's www.sparkpeople.com (no "s";-) ) or you can use www.fitday.com, Jennifer for free sites that will help you track your calories and exercise. I tried both and definitely find SP easier to use.

I need to check out the new little quiz. I think that when I tried it several weeks ago, it had me at 26 pts/day.

Oh, Jennifer- it's good to "see" you again!

Jane- I am very glad that you survived your "cookie" day, now, where's mine!?!?! Just kidding! When I got to work tonight, the family from my patient last night left me the most gorgeous looking cookies, thanking me for taking care of him! (he was SUCH a sweet heart!!!)

Lori, to answer your question...I don't track Ap's or points anymore. I am tracking my exercise and calories on SparkPeople, though, and it's helped me break through my 6 month plateau. I still attend the WW meetings, and after 6 months of my leader just shrugging her shoulders at my dilemma, I don't let her in on what I have changed. Technically, I am still "Watching the Weight" right??? I figure, who cares how I do it as long as I am!
