Wrist/Palm protector for Horizontal Conditioning?

Gobias

Cathlete
I have been intrigued by the recent threads on Horizontal Conditioning and decided to purchase some. However, I am worried about all of the plank work and what it will do to my wrists/palms. I work out on padded carpet but have gotten red palms and sore wrists before from some Cathe planks.

Anyone have any tips or ideas? I saw a link to some wrist gloves, but don't know how those would help bent wrists and don't see any reviews on the product. Someone mentioned using push up bars, but wouldn't that hurt your palms more than a flat floor?

Thanks!

I never have had problems with my wrists. What I did have problems with my elbows. I would tear off the top layer of skin all the time and they would never seem to toughen up. I just bought some volleyball elbow pads. These have been great! I just thought I would through this out there in case others are having the same problem.

Another vote for WAGS!! I bought them for HC based on advice on here and they've been great. Before I was getting weird marks on my palms from the step and my wrists were bothering me just a little. The small wedge in the gloves has made a huge difference. I'm actually doing HC volume 2 today. I love them. True the prodution values leave something to be desired but given I spend the whole time mostly looking at the ground it doesn't bother me!!

And ... my physical therapist commented on my amazing core strength 2 weeks ago :)

Get the gloves. You won't regret it.

I'm so glad you guys like the WAGS gloves too! I totally plan to get another pair at some point. I'm curious to try the WAGS Pro, although the less expensive Flex ones have worked just fine for me.

jcm that is phenomenal what your PT said about your core strength! SCORE! :D ITA about the production values...I am rarely looking up at the screen to notice too much. lol

I know! After 3 kids my core left much to be desired - coupled with the fact I HATE ab work. This is the first thing I've found I can tolerate. And it's amazing how I can cruise through Cathe's Core Max - complete with pikes on the ball!!

All - thanks for the recommendation on WAGS. What do the gloves help - the palm pressure or the wrist fatigue/soreness? From reading the description, I think it only helps the palm pain by giving you a cushion on the palm. Does it also help with wrist fatigue since it wedges your hand a bit, causing your hand to not be at a 90 degree angle?

Which WAGS do you all have? I see three options. I don't mind purchasing the most expensive ones....if they are better than the other two.

KARIEV - thanks for the elbow idea. I think I still have my rollerblade elbow pads, so will use those. I didn't realize I would be tearing up my arms also. What have I gotten myself into?!?!?

Thank you all!

I didn't even think of using gloves when doing HC - what a great idea. I usually don't like to wear my gloves when doing push-ups - they feel too tight on my fingers, but now that I've looked at these WAGS gloves I may have to splurge. Not sure what ones to get though. Those of you that have the WAGS can you give feedback on which ones you have and how they fit? I saw that Colleen has the WAGS flex, but just wondering what the rest of folks have. Thanks!

I've done vol. 2 several times now and am amazed at how quickly I feel progress. I do a 60 minute HIIT/crossfit type of workout 4x a week, and one of my goals is to be better at my push-ups. Since doing HC I really can tell a difference in my push-ups! Yesterday one of the things we did in my class was broad jump down the length of the gym, then drop and do 10 push-ups, - 5x. I was able to do all of the push-ups on my toes! I thanked Sandra - and Colleen, when I finished the 50th push-up!

I did vol. 4 for the first time on Sunday. She amazes me. I can see that there is a lot of room for improvement for me with this workout. I agree, the production value doesn't bother me (surprisingly) at all - and I am sure it is because, like those who already posted about this, I am either too busy looking at the ground, or just plain amazed by what Sandy can do.

Though I did get really annoyed at one point during the workout because I couldn't do what Sandy was doing and they hadn't/weren't showing what the modifier was doing. That is temporary, of course. I just need to know what the modified moves are, which will come with familiarity with the workout. Then I won't need to see the modifications, or hopefully, I will be able to graduate to what Sandy is doing...one day.

Thanks again for putting me onto HC. Now what I would like are her shorter workouts. All I saw on her website were the starter dvds, the vol 1-4 and the bootcamp. But I see others posting about - monthly membership, and shorter workouts - where do I find out this information?

Macbeaner and others,

You all are making me so excited to start the workouts. I can't wait.

Macbeaner --> go to the horizontalconditioning.com website - -> click on "Products" on near the top of the page - -> above the pictures of the DVDs and below the title of "Products" are three options (DVDs, clothing, and Horizontal Club Dvds) (that line gets kind of lost in the page). Click on the "HORIZONTAL CLUB DVDs"

To learn more about the Horizontal club DVDs, go to horizontalconditioning.com - -> on the home page are a few boxes. One of the boxes says "Horizontal Club...click here for more info". Click on that and she explains it.

I know there is an option of a subscription of getting these monthly or every other month or you can wait until the end of the year and buy the entire year's worth. There are 2 different workout options - one is longer (50-60min) and called Hardcore Videos and one is shorter (20-30min) and called 101 Videos.

In her first year, she put a video of each (longer and shorter) out every month for a total of 24 videos a year. In the next 2 years, she put a video of each (longer and shorter) out every OTHER month for a total of 12 videos a year. Year 1 is available now and years 2 & 3 will be available as a bulk purchase in December (not sure if you can purchase as a non-bulk set).

These videos are her classes taped live, I believe.

I will be ordering mine tomorrow as I am waiting for Sandra to answer a couple more questions of mine.

macbeanur/Sarah- I'm so glad about your progress and results! That's fantastic! :D I felt the same way when I started being able to do my other workouts so much more efficiently. I'll never forget how much easier Afterburn, Crossfire and To the Max felt after I got some HC's under my belt. I can now do 22, on the toes push ups in a row! Even after STS I could never get past 10, and before that... forget it! I was lucky to get 4 or 5 before sinking to my knees.

As for the shorter club workouts, those are called the "101's"...here's a link to those: Horizontal Conditioning : Purchase DVD's You can get all 12 for a discounted price or buy them individually. I love them all but I especially love the March 101. Those gliders get in there really good! :D

Gobias- Like I mentioned before I got the WAGS Flex and they fit really well. You want them to fit snugly, and the size small worked for me. I really want to try the WAGS Pro sometime, though. The wedge helps to cushion the palm as well as decrease the angle of flexion which takes the pressure off the nerve in the wrist. I even use the gloves when I do yoga, actually. Eventually I'll have to get another pair, and then I'll spring for the more expensive ones I think.

Thanks for the link, Colleen! And thanks for the tip about March 101...I am feeling quite poor right now, so it might be best to start small (though I bet I'll end up going for the 12 at the discount price eventually).

Woo-hoo, on your push-up improvement! It is amazing how quickly HC brings results. I too, have been working on push-ups and have seen slight improvement, but nothing like I've seen just after a couple of HC workouts.

I remember someone mentioned that after doing HC their abs felt like they were in a corset - I completely understand what that poster meant now!

Someone else wrote something about HC along the lines of "Cathe does these moves, too, so no need to buy the HC". That is really not true - she may do a FEW of the moves, but not for the duration that Sandy does, and it is the duration, I think, that makes all the difference. Plus, Sandy does some things that I think - How did she come up with this?

I am going to go ahead and get those gloves I think.

thanks again for your help!

Well, Colleen, I ordered the videos! Not sure how soon they will arrive. And now that I see you are (aka eyefit), I realize that you are 95% of my enabler in buying HC from this and another forum...so thanks! I didn't see your aka before.

Another question about the gloves - I see the ones you have go slightly up the wrist. That doesn't bother you when you bend your wrist? The reason I ask is because I wear workout gloves with dumbbell training but I have to take them off when I do ab/plank/yoga workouts because the part around my wrist is just annoying. It isn't painful, just annoying. However, if the part around the wrist on the WAGS is helpful and not annoying, I won't mind. I am actually leaning towards getting the Ultra gloves thinking that if they are the cushionest, it would be worth it.

I did my measurment they have on their site and I am between a S and M, so I think I will go for S so they are more snug.

Thanks to everyone for their feedback.

Gobias,

Why don't you try writing them an email. I read this thread that you started and before ordering, went to the WAGS website and emailed them asking whether they have any promo codes and they very promptly replied with the above promo codes that I posted.
So they are very good/ prompt at replying emails. So it is worth giving a try!

liz - Make sure you put it in CAPS (I did the same thing and it only recognized CAPS)

OK - I called and they are refunding the difference! Also, if you saw my other thread, I mentioned how the seam was scratching my wrists up. She said that is a complaint they get and to send them back and they will fix/replace. And will reimburse me for mailing costs.

Thanks all!

YAY Gobias!;)

LIZ, as Gobias said, it has to be all CAPITAL LETTERS for the coupon code to be recognized.

Enablers...all of ya!! :p

I just ordered a pair. I wanted a pair, but when I looked at the site I only saw the pair that was $65(a bit out of my comfort zone). Then I looked more closely and the Flex pair looks perfect for me, which is the cheapest pair. And the discount got me free shipping :D

Thanks everyone!! These look perfect!!
