Workout Warriors Jan 17th - Jan 23rd

Crap. I really should proof-read. Across one continent - two countries. :D:D

If M'Star was not yelling across 2 Continents, but 1, does that equate to her being 'incontinent'???????

On a slightly more serious note I would like to start today by thanking (a BIG thanking) those of my STS-Sisters who so graciously offered to assist me in my STS ($$) plight. I took the plunge. Excitment tinged with slight anxiety at my ability to be equal to this challenge - but with my Warriors behind me - can't fail right?????

Mary You just get right on in there and plonk your towel + water + + + on that bike next time. Watching the clock with you waiting for Monday to roll around.

Oh Donna. Got in the 10k race line and stayed there rather than lose face. The Chinese have a word for that (No, I don't know what the heck it is either) bloody made me laugh though. Mind you a few of your posts crack a smile. You seem to have the gift of being very succinct with your adjectives and consquently hitting the nail right on the head there. Bosch.

Melissa your post about dithering over w/o selection and ending up chasing the clock. I hate that when half of your brain is playing catch-up while you're trying to drive the focus of the w/o to achieve max effect. I was distracted this week by an expected delivery and Cathe had 1/2 my attention while the rest of the time I kept trying to see what was going on outside and finish up quick-smart.

Regina No not done BIKRAM Badly want to give that one a try. Geography is the problem - but if I can ever find a local one will certainly need lots more yoga practice first as got a bit rusty there.

Cathy 3.30a.m. wake-up. Been there Done that Big Big Time. Although, not surprising what with Mom + Dr etc etc. We had a senior flip-out last year so I can so empathise with that.

MJ Not a runner - so can't assist with the programme BUUUUUUUUUUT am I ever looking forward to disecting Wimbledon with you in June. Better yet, come over and we'll go together. I don't really invest in the other Grand Slams because I like to be fully involved with the tournament from beginning to end. Nothing much ever gets done around here those two weeks. Roll on sunshine, Pimms, Strawberries and grass courts.

Corroboration (as if corroboration were needed) that I'm along on the right CHECK-IN. Janis, was gonna put my handle on here as Sugar Junkie but thought better of it. Oh man - I just cannot beat those cravings. I'm lost; hopeless. Everyday is a battle, one I lost on Saturday when DD popped out, popped back with Malteser Bunnies and popped out again. I hope Rowan is having a good day - he crops up in most every post. I have to fight my natural inclination to Gucci Gucci Gucci everytime I post. I love that cat so ridiculously, from deep in my core - which I don't think is good for my sanity, but what're gonna do?? When normality resumed and I met up with people after Christmas they didn't say Hi Kim, How're you doing. They said: "What did Gucci get for Christmas". That pretty much says it all!!!!!

So, what did this WARRIOR achieve (thus far) this week.
Power Max Tick
Step Fit Tick
Step Works Tick
Step Moves Tick
Bis + Tris + Shoulders + Back Tick
Working @ home book-keeping Tick
Enter DD into supermodel competition Tick
Eh???????? How did that snuck in there?? I know it was futile (especially as the entry criteria was a full length shot and I didn't have a real recent 1 handy to attach), but just wanted to shoot over the text which read "If you get any calls or e-mails you don't understand it because I entered you in a supermodel competition U R V WELCUM" Haaaaaaaaaaaaa Gotta have a bit of fun to see you through the day.

Sorry folks I missed : Kimberly, Gayle, Suzie, M'Star, Tara, Jenn : But I read your posts, those of you that did [[[HUGS]]]

Your friend:
On a cold and grey; January day POETRY TOO (I got all the bases covered :D :D :D :D )

Good morning ladies! Sitting here at work smiling at your posts.

KadetKim - I can't wait until you start STS and begin posting on how much you love it. Don't worry, Meso 1 isn't that difficult because it's lighter weights and endurance based. I think the only thing that makes me groan is the plethora of push-ups. She has boys in these workouts too. They're all pretty attractive, though one of them irritates me because he seems like a bit of a dork. I won't say which one because that's just not nice. Of course, I love Sci Fi and playing Xbox, and work on a computer all day, so I guess I shouldn't be calling people dorks.

You've entered your DD into a supermodel contest? Don't suppose you can share some photos? I'd love to see!

Janis - good onya for the 2# loss! I limit my sugar too, but lately have been giving in to cravings. I'll have a couple squares of dark Dove chocolate after lunch. And last week I was seriously dying for some cookies, so I hit the Tim Horton's downstairs and got some oatmeal raisin and ginger cookies. Not sure if you know what Tim Horton's is, but Morningstar and Melissa will. It's like a Canadian Dunkin Donuts that's quite popular in Western NY and Ontario.

The Roots had a couple amazing albums released last year. "How I Got Over" and "Wake Up!" That one is actually a collaboration they did with John Legend, so it's a bit different. I had read People Magazine while at the hair stylist a few weeks ago and they'd listed the best albums of 2010. Both of those were on it, as were Kanye's and Kid Rock's albums released this year. I got those too and LOVE them!!!!

Don't know if you ever see The Roots on Jimmy Fallon, but they're so gifted. Paul Giamatti was on the other week promoting his movie "Barney's Version". The Roots put together a version of the theme from Barney (yeah, the purple dino) set to the music of Barney Miller. Very clever.

MJ really cool that you play tennis. My brother was into the sport, but I was horrible at it. I have no hand-eye. Then again, when I tried to play, I was not in shape and WAY too worried about looking stupid. I should give it another go one of these days. I may have an issue with depth perception, but I've never had it tested. Just sort of a suspicion that my boyfriend has.

This morning was a running break morning, so I got to sleep in a little late. Unfortunately, I'd had a nightmare that woke me at 4:30 and it was difficult getting back to sleep. In the dream, my ex moved back in to my home. He started changing things and just messing up my groove - AND he got into my case of wine! I woke up screaming. LOL - not really.

I have STS M1D12 (Legs) on the calendar for this afternoon. I'm thinking I may throw a LBB premix on at the end, but we'll have to see. Since I'm also planning abs, I may just be sick of the workout room by the time I finish STS.

OK Donna. I just experimented with putting Gucci onto my last post as struggled with attachment b4. That worked, but it's only thumbnail - click to enlarge - so I'll do some from home of Tash. It's a 'real woman' competition size 12 (think that's 8 US) and above. When she saw it she said thanks for putting me into the fatties contest Mum. It's not serious - but would love for y'all to see her anyways. She's a doll.

:p

HA! Thanks for making me choke on my orange wedge.

Janis- Cathe uses the tower in Lower Body Blast. By the time that I get to that added segment of the workout, my legs are trembling. Thanks for the info and link to Belanger's pilates. I too am surprised when one instructor can give what seems like the same instructions but somehow I understand it more from one instructor than the other. I often find this to be true with Yoga instructors. Let me know what you think about Sanchez's workout.

Donna- Thanks for posting those playlist. You gave me some ideas for my spinning and running playlists.

Kim- a friend of mine keeps trying to encourage me to go to her Bikram Yoga class. So far I have been hesitant but maybe I will give it a try.

Donna- funny dream about your ex! Is that dream Freudian (smile)? What kind of wine is he drinking? DH and I have been going to a lot of wine tastings lately. We are trying to diversify and add to our collection.

Workout this morning- Cathe- Intensity- Step -HIIT/Lo premix
Styler- Warrior Yoga

Last night- back and triceps - my workout

MidgetDogg I wouldn't start with Kettlebell Dynamics. It's an okay workout she does 5 reps of a move and then moves on to the next move. I would go with Lauren Brooks volume 1 or Sarah Lurie Iron Core workouts. I like Lauren more then Sarah. Sarah is rather dry but she does give good form pointers.

Janis Congrats on the 2lb loss. Your walk with Rowan sounds lovely.

Regina I just got Physique 57 any thoughts on that one?

Today I did KCM Kickbox workout 1.

Hope everyone is having a lovely day. And getting ready for more snow tomorrow. YUCK!

Child sitting this afternoon for a friend, so I have extras (6 and 8). Nick has huge issues over the 8 yo. He is just a bit less than 4 years older and the younger one is taller and heavier and it bothers him a lot. The plays out with him generally causing problems when they are together. Thankfully, he's not mean he just does little things that throw things off kilter and make me have to step in and redirect them. He did schoolwork for the first two hours they were here. Then they were inside and he went outside and now they are all outside again. Seems to be going ok. I think after a few hours he gets tired of doing things on his own and can then bring himself to associate with him.

I only did biceps this morning. Took me 40 minutes plus the warm-up. All in all 10 minutes longer than I usually spend on an upper body part. Not sure why that was, I didn't think I was taking longer breaks. Skipped cardio, cause I just didn't feel up to it. :( I did shove furniture and futon mattresses around the basement while Nick was doing cardio, so I should have burnt off a few extra calories. Those darn mattresses are heavy and awkward to drag around.

Gotta go back to having an eye out the window. Oh, and I find the guys in STS fun to watch. Their expressions at times are quite hilarious. Oh, and if you're ever in need of a pick me up. Check out Robert's modeling pics. :p http://www.modelmayhem.com/609750 and you can friend Greg on FB and get his motivational comments and he sometimes offers discounts on his stuff.

Regina - Not sure which varietal he stole, since I was in the WSJ Wine Club for a bit and they'd send an assortment of reds. My favorites are Malbec, Tempranillo, Red Zinfandel, Riesling, Gewurtztraminer and Pinto Grigio. The only one that I don't like is Merlot. I have had some merlot that I like, but for the most part - I consider it too strong. I like dry or semi-sweet. Going to tastings is so much fun - my boyfriend and I do it whenever we can, but it's expensive since I can't leave a winery without buying at least one bottle.

Jenn thanks for the advice. I was told to stay away from Amy and I ended up ordering Paul Katami's DVD, so we'll see how it goes. Now I have to go out and buy a kettlebell.

Cathy sometimes workouts just go on forever, don't they? Maybe you were taking longer to adjust your weights? I didn't want to do abs this afternoon, but I really needed to. For some reason, I just couldn't think of one I wanted to do and ended up trying one from Exercise TV. Wasn't bad and the guy was cute, so I feel better.

Checked out your link to Robert's modeling pics. I didn't realize he was a model - I thought he was just a dude from Cathe's gym who is good at math. I thought maybe he was an engineering student or something. HA! I was WAY off!!!! He doesn't look as beefy in the videos as he does on his site - must be those dopey shorts he wears.

What sort of "stuff" does Greg sell?

http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/
Allie Brosh has posted a new entry to her blog, it you don’t already follow her bookmark her page or subscribe to her feed today. She is hilarious.

Kim - If M'Star was not yelling across 2 Continents, but 1, does that equate to her being 'incontinent'??????? Why yes, I believe it does. (wiping spewed tea off of my keyboard now.)
Well….what did Gucci get for Christmas? So funny, entering your daughter in a super model contest just for her surprised reaction. I'll wait, anxiously, for you to post a photo. I am so much happier being off of sugar. The first three days were hard, especially looking at my beloved nutella and those tasty truffles from Costco, but after that – my mood improved greatly and my cravings abated 100 fold. I only start to waiver when I am overly hungry and have gone too long between meals. Are Malteser Bunnies chocolate or marshmallow? (I really need to know!)

Cathy – How many warming houses are in your area? Who maintains them? OK – I challenge you to get off of sugar. If you can go 12 weeks I’ll send you a special, surprise gift. ..yoga related. Are you game?

Ah, Morningstar, that was the same week your sweet kitty died, so no wonder you don’t remember the fella’s name. “you seem to have your spirit back and I'm thrilled about that.” You noticed..:) feels good. See what having a regular rotation, a back to running plan, and no sugar can do for a girl!? Hey, are you still on decaf?

MJ“helps when you have enough imagination to put people's faces on the balls while hitting them ”, that’s great motivation and tension release all in one. Lol. Hey, what do you think of Venus William’s dresses? Cute, daring, cutting edge? or? self-possessed?

Donna – I’ll have to dvr Jimmy Fallon. I loved him on SNL. I haven’t gotten around to seeing his show. Wow, the Roots are super talented and creative to come up with a fusion of “I love you, you love me…” ala Barney and the theme song to Barney Miller. I bet it was hysterical. I keep meaning to tell you I love goat cheese too, I eat it with everything sweet and savory. I even give Chevre to my dog. I can totally relate to being sick of the workout room by the end of an STS workout, or any workout. I literally start to get cabin fever. It’s not so bad if I do something for 5-10 minutes and then come back. I concur with Jenn, start with Lauren Brooks, but watch watch watch kettlebell how-to videos on youtube. Look for this guy, Steve Cotter. Learn how to do it properly from him before you do Lauren or anyone else. Regardless of what you are told by Pavel/Lauren, whatever you do, do not snap your hips. You can get full range of motion and the fulcrum effect without it.

Regina – Yep,I’ll give you feedback about Tony Sanchez. It is supposedly Bikram poses without the studio. I can heat my room up for the full Bikram effect, if I want, but not sure that’s what I need right now. The powerlifting, that you no longer do, was it competition lifting? 1 RM? Or are you referring to lifting slow and heavy ?

Jenn – Sorry to hear about the snow. Bummer, especially since it makes your commute ridiculous.

As for me: today was rehab, followed my Pilates for Dummies, intermediate, and then a very long walk with Rowan. Now we are dashing off to his first kennel club obedience classes. I have been taking private lessons and he has more than surpassed the basic obedience, but the trainer is recommending I take it any way. We’ll see.

Hello and happy Thursday to Suzie, Tara, Melissa, Mary...and Gayle too.

I don't have time to proof-read or preview, so -
:D

I have been getting my work-outs in. Not sticking to the Dec. rotation, just loosely following it. I did High Reps upper body and treadmilled for 40 min. yesterday. Lower body and 40 minutes today.

Gayle: When you use the microwave egg cooker, do you NEVER have a hard time peeling your eggs? My eggs are about 50/50 if they'll slide right out, or if there's gonna be some swearing.

Janis: Is Rowan a young dog learning, or an old dog learning new tricks?

22 below right now, and supposed to get much colder overnight. BRRR

Kimberly

Hello everyone.....

Cathy, did I misunderstand about the kids' school? Are they just taking the non-core classes? Sorry if I missed that! That explains the multiple trips to town I read about, I was wondering about that. That's good that they have access to those types of classses!

Janis, I hope your injury starts behaving! Scoliosis here, too!

Kimberly, where in Minnesota are you? Outside Minneapolis here.

Morningstar, well done for being so concerned with your civic duty. I should be half as good! A quarter even!

My half-hearted w/outs were...Tuesday ending up being a slacking day, I forget why...oh yea, I thought I'd take a quick nap at 6 pm and slept all night! Wed was IMAX3 and today was MM with Intensity Step+HIIT(lo), trying to stick the Jan rotation.

I'm irritated that I haven't not lost anymore weight...may even have gained? since upping my w/o's and starting the Jan rotation, so not sure what my plan is once I get back from England.

And yep, got a dress.
And here's a picture of the staircase at the hotel we're staying at....
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/t...ards-hotel-review-Saddle-room-river-view.html

can you imagine the w/out you could get running the stairs?

Hope everyone is staying warm........

McKeefe: I live way up in Northern Minnesota, by Thief River Falls. It's about an hour from the Canadian border.

Kimberly

Donna-I like your choices in wine. I like some Merlots although I am partial to Cabernets. Lately I have been partial to the wines from Chili. I responded to your post on kettlebells and Amy. I am glad that you chose the Katami workout. I think that you will enjoy it, although my favorites are the AOS and Lauren Brooks

Janis- I just recently stopped competing in Power Lifting competitions. What breed is Rowan?

Jenn- I have P57 and like it although I only really ever do the full workout and occ the express workout. I am debating about getting the Vol 2 P57. How did you like P57? Have you ever tried any of the 'Squeeze' workouts? I did Trudie Styler warrior Yoga (express premix) for the first time yesterday. I was sure that I would not care for it but surprisingly I really did enjoy it.

Mkeefe- The Royal HorseGuards is such beautiful Hotel. I read the history of the hotel on the link that you provided. I teach history and love good historical sites and stories. How long will you be in England?

Kimberly- I was griping a little about 4 more inches of snow today but I have nothing to complain about. It is 22 below in MN? Thank you, I will take the snow.

Workout today- Pure Barre- Ballet Dance Pilates Fusion. I am going to do a short cardio workout later today though I am not sure what yet. I may do a rebounding workout.

Have A Great Weekend Everyone!

Thanks for the Kettlebell advice, Regina. I watched some YouTube videos this morning and well.... I sure hope I don't end up throwing one of them through my wall. :) My video is due on Monday, but I don't think I'll get to trying it for a week or two. Gotta wait for payday to buy the kettlebells and I have an active recovery week in two weeks. Yippeee!

Kimberly - when you said 22 below, I was thinking you must be Canadian and were speaking in celsius. That's just nuts! We rarely get sub-zero in Buffalo.

So, I gotta say... the Check-in served its purpose in the best way today. I was up late last night and had one of cats wake me a few times, so I was horribly tired this morning. I did my treadmill run - 30 minutes at 65% - 75% MHR then all out sprint intervals. But I ended up having to take a nap a little while later. When I woke up, I knew I had STSM1D11 on my calendar and wanted to blow it off SO bad... but then thought about how I'd have to post that I blew off my workout. I can proudly say, I did my STS workout. Can't say that I'm moving too quickly to clean up the weights... that may be tomorrow morning.

Finished out the week with triceps and IMAX 2 6-10. Then helped Nick finish up his second week of MESO 2. He’s really starting to get into it and pushing himself instead of just stopping when it gets the least bit hard. His sense of competition is starting to show up.

Janis - There are two sledding hills with warming houses that we go to each month. They are both county parks, so fall under the counties jurisdiction. One is definitely nicer as it’s a year round building and houses the staff office. The other is a pavilion in the summertime and they throw a wall around the outside and put in a heater in the winter. Both are warm if you are coming in to warm up from sledding, but I generally keep my coat on the whole time I’m in them.

Hmm. I’d take you up on the 12 weeks offer, but can it wait until February 7th? I know, I know, I should just do it now, but I have a retreat the first weekend in Feb. and these women LOVE their chocolate and there is way too much of it around for me to deal with so early into giving up sugar. For example, here is the description of an afternoon session:
1:30–2:30 p.m.***************** Free Chocolate! Team Activities and Treats :p

Kimberly - we’ve been single digits and around 0 a couple times this winter, but -22 is just so nasty sounding. I too will take snow over that kind of cold. We’re a balmy 9 right now.

Mary - My oldest will be going full time in the fall and the youngest will be doing art and computers. But, even though they will be in the same building, the younger kids start an hour later, so for the next two years, even if they were both full time, it would mean four trips in every day. Dang that’s an awkward sentence, but I don’t feel like fixing it.

That is an incredible looking hotel you’ll be staying at. What incredible atmosphere!

Donna - good for you getting your workout in. It definitely does help to know you have to be accountable to someone doesn’t it!

We not only have the cold (my Dad said he was up at 4 in the morning and it was 35 below zero, so it had warmed up considerably by the time I checked the temp) but we've had the most snow we've had in 16 years. Unbelievable. We went snowshoeing 2 weeks ago, and I don't think I could go unless my husband goes first and makes a trail. It is unbelievable hard in snow that hasn't been traveled on!

A lot of people are going to have trouble with flooding this year. We live on the river, but are up so high that we would never have a problem. Thank goodness!

MidgetDogg: Good job on pushing through. You should be proud of yourself.

Regina: Do you frequently do split workouts? Sometimes I do when I'm really inspired.

McKeefe: Sorry to hear about your frustration with weight in regards to your new rotation. I have to work so hard, and eat so little to make any progress. My brother is all fired up about Atkins. So I had to agree to try two weeks of it just to shut him up! I will be curious to see what this does for me. I am a HUGE carb addict. Not only do I love my treats, I love oatmeal, yougurt and fruit. This is brutal for me.

Peaceful Rainbow: I know there were a number of comments on the forums that were not impressed with the guys. I disagree. I enjoyed being joined by the men during the workouts. I hope Cathe keeps including them.

Jenn38: I also like KCM. Did you preorder her new ones? Snow seems to be on the radar for a lot of us! I'm glad I'm not the primary snow-shoveler in our household. That's been a big job this year.

Treadmilled for 50 minutes this morning before work.

Kimberly

Just skimmed through all the posts for the week... what a fun, interesting, smart, honest and dedicated of Warriors we have here...

I feel honored to have joined in and I appreciated (I think it was Janis...) the invite to join in here, that was listed in Open Discussion forum, early January.

This week was a blur...so I did not check in but once, but it was very good. Work is very good---new levels of challenge and interest are in play. Trying to keep up with it all, but I really like it, even when I'm feeling unsure. (Does that make sense?)

DH is at Barrett-Jackson in Phoenix for 4 days, a televised car auction. He's a car-enthusiast, does race events and has race cars etc. He just lights up when he's @ cars and his calls home have been filled with animation and excitement. Love hearing his happy. (and glad I am not there-love him. looking at cars for hours on end, not so much!)

My workouts this week so far:

  • CardioStrength by Michelle Dozois --- 1st time I've done this one --- it was really good. Fun, harder than her other stuff. Enjoyable. Will become one of my favorite-go-to's for Total Body Circuit Programs. Recommend this one.
  • Kick, Punch and Crunch - Cathe seems like she's having fun in this one, doesn't she?
  • Pyramid Upper Body
  • Legs & Glutes
This weekend I'll do several cardio workouts, probably one low impact and one step or higher impact. Maybe I'll try Michelle Dozois other new one, Cardio ---something... have had it and have not tried it yet.

Happy Weekend All!

Happy Saturday, ladies! Did my 3 mile run this morning, took a break for coffee, a banana with some almond butter and oatmeal, then popped outside to shovel the end of my driveway. I only did a little before deciding shoveling is lame and came back inside. I have a guy who plows it for me, but I think I was parked in the way when he came by yesterday and I lost out. I don't have the right gloves for that shoveling nonsense, so I figured my Subaru could get through. Then just as I was getting ready to do Tonique Mat, my plow guy came. I heart him!

So....check in.... Run and butt today. Gotta say, Sylwia nearly brings tears to my eyes. It's a really tough routine!

Friday I took a rest day due to snow travel. Had to leave home earlier than normal. Today I did Ellen's Fat Burning Pilates workouts. And according to my scale I lost 2 pounds. I'm somewhat in disbelief. The only thing I have done differently is track my foods some days with MyFitnessPal and it wasn't consistent. I also have changed my morning coffee with flavored creamer to tea with a some sugar. I guess I'll take it and use it as motivation to build upon.

Kim Yes I ordered KCM on the first day with the free shipping. :D Did you order the new ones?

Wake Up Eager Will you get to see your DH on tv at the auction? My DH watches that on the speed channel all the time.

Regina I didn't get P57 yet, I'm waiting for it to come in the mail. I hope I like it. It looks good and has real good reviews. No I've never tried any of the Squeeze workouts.
