Workout Warriors Jan 17th - Jan 23rd

Well I was very proud of myself today. I woke up at 3:30 a.m. and never got back to sleep. None of the usual stuff worked and I have that happen at least once during my cycle. Finally just got up at 5:15 and did Shoulders and Core Max Complete Core. Didn't do my cardio at that time, but I did 30/30 with Nick. Got all the stuff around the house done I needed to do, school with the boys and by 2:30 when we finished I crawled into bed and slept for an hour. Didn't want to get up, but I did and I'm feeling much more functional now. Taking a break then making supper. Tuesday during this rotation is my longest workout day with weights, core and cardio, and I was determined that I wasn't going to skip. Especially since I missed cardio yesterday.

Janis, Derek will be in 4th grade next year and he wants to take art and computer classes. So, when Nick enrolls in August, we'll try and arrange something that fits with our schedule for him. The next year he can start band, too, and he's intrigued by that idea.

I didn't tell you guys about my Mom flipping out on her first chemo dr. apparently it didn't go well when they met before her treatment started and less than a week before her treatment was to start she got all upset and (he wasn't in the room, but apparently heard) started calling him all kinds of names and other impolite things. Without telling her he dropped her as a patient. They weren't getting any info on getting her set up, so Dad went and talked to social worker at the hospital. They were able to find her a new doctor, who she really likes, and things went smoother after that. BUT, the hospital made her sign a statement that she wouldn't swear at/threaten any of the staff etc. Now normally my Mother wouldn't say boo in that kind of situation or most any and she's all of about 4'8" tall now! So, it became a family joke for Dad to report her good behavior to us.

And how's your body doing today? Past it's achiness for your vineyard walk?

I have to say that there are definitely STS workouts that have a dread factor for me. The push-ups from hell workouts being some of those! But, I hate having to get my rotation out of whack and make them up, so it's one time that I rarely ever, unless I had no choice skipped a day. Same with my current one part per day. If I don't do the part for the day, it all gets messed up. Forces me to suck it up and do it!

Mary, I hope today is a better day for you. That's lousy about the bikes not being available. Back in days of long ago, ok late 80's, when I used to go to a gym, I did the 6:15 aerobics class and followed that up with weights. I tried going afterwork and it was just too crowded and crazy. Not to mention first thing in the morning the weight room equipment is much cleaner and better smelling!

Heat wave here today as it's around 30. :D Gotta go make summer. Big Hi to whoever got missed!

Today I did workouts 1 and 2 of Kettlebell Dynamics and then I did my first Pure Barre workout. Pershing Square 2 and I was begging for mercy. :D I must be doing something wrong with Booty Barre because it doesn't feel like this. Is your supporting leg supposed to feel it more? And the core work was killer.

Regina I ordered the 3 where there is not a voice over. The voice over thing really turns me off.

Janis I did have the JHarris but something happened and I change user names. Now I'm going to have to look to see if that name appears when I use different computers. But they are both me. Sorry for the confusion. Hope your ankle feels better soon.

Yes Aqua Jogging was quite the workout. I did start out thinking this will be easy but when you put a lot of energy behind you feel it. Due to my workout schedule I will only be able to do Aqua Aerobics so I might try that one if my sister wants to. The aqua stuff was her idea.

Cathy that is sad about the Dr. dropping your mom. It has to be tough going through chemo. Glad the hospital was able to work things out for you.

Ly10up I've read really good reviews for Atletic. I heard it has a lot of burpees. I have BodyStrikes and like it. But that is my only Ilaria workout.

Ah, that explains it, well I am happy to learn I am not losing my mind! (That would be so inconvenient.)

Hope your ankle feels better soon.

Oh, the ankle is all better - the ankle injury was the fall of 2009. I haven't re-injured it. The injury I am lamenting about, and which I am re-habing from is severe iliopsoas tendinitis...aka...hip flexors.

:)

Hi All,
Today it was STS Disk 3 Legs and then I added the standing portion of Lower Body Blast. It was the first time I did the LBB add on and I liked it. Yesturday I did Jeanette Jenkins Blast the Belly Fat. It's ok; not my favorite.

Elena

Okay, all of you, it's called "Atletica", without the "h". And I swear, I leave for a couple of days and it turns into the enablers thread!

lol. Got me. For whatever it's worth, Atletica is Athletics in Italian (Montagnani) and Spanish.

I just read that I should be lifting slow and heavy to build tendon strength. Why do I have to research these things? Shouldn't the Dr. and the physiotherapist have told me this? Light weight and high repetitions aggravates tendinitis.

And Warriors! Take note, if it had not been for dear Morningstar literally yelling at me (at the top of her lungs across the continent) I would likely have continued running on my (2009) ankle stress fracture until it was a full fracture. Doctor said so. (tip: running should never hurt )

So - MORNINGSTAR IS ALWAYS RIGHT! MIAR.

:D

Edited for my geographical vocabulary dysfunction. :)

Good Evening Warriors!

I just read through all the threads since yesterday and I must say we are a interesting group (in a good way) and I was laughing by the end of the continental confusion. lol I am impressed that morningstar can yell across one continent let alone two. :p

Thanks to all of you for your well wishes for my family and your support. It is appreciated. :)

So, this morning, I slept two hours passed my alarm, must have turned it off in my sleep instead of hitting the snooze alarm, so needless to say the only workout this morning was seeing how fast I could get ready for work and out the door. Tonight, however, right when I finally got home from work, I changed and did my workout. I am happy to say that I finally got on the silly ol' treadmill and did the first C25K workout. Amazingly enough , it wasnt nearly as intimidating doing it as it has been in my mind for the last few weeks and I actually can run on the treadmill for a total of 8 minutes spread out over 20 and bonus, not fall off..duh! lol I can be such a mental case about the stupidest things. lol ;) Then I followed it up with STS M1D2 back/tris.

Janis, I would love for you to be able to do the C25K with me, but only if doesnt hurt you, finishing your healing is much more important.

Cathy, I can totally relate to your mom flipping out, we had quite a few doozies over the last few months with both my grandparents and the doctors. There are days I was surprised they let us back in the hospital with them. lol Btw, I am proud of you too for persevering through your day and keeping on track. Its not easy some days at all to stay on track and really easy to talk yourself out of it.

Great job to everyone on their accomplishments of the day!

Now its off to bed to watch the australian open until I doze off...yes its tennis grand slam time again, I am trying to be very good and not stay up all night watching tennis...darn other side of the world time zones.

Catch up with everyone again tomorrow. Good night Warrior Princesses!

I actually CAN yell across two continents - and leap tall buildings in a single bound, while editing position papers, arranging large events and running the Boston Marathon - and winning, of course.

Don't worry, my ego isn't actually as big as it must seem from recent posts. Or maybe it is, but I try to get it by y'all by sneaking in a sense of humour too.

What I bin upta?

On Monday I walked to work carrying my clothes and other supplies for a week -a 15-20lb bag and it was really cold outside - we had an extreme cold alert here. To keep warm, I did unilateral exercises for the biceps, triceps, shoulders and traps. I only did it for half an hour of the 90 minute walk, but by the time I got to work I had sweat pouring down me – the 3 layers I was wearing helped, of course. I was actually feeling the workout yesterday in terms of DOMS, especially in my forearms and biceps. (yes, Janis, I know you already know this, but I thought I'd share with the class!)

Tuesday I ran to work. Now, normally my runs to work are HiiT intensity, as my route to work is all steep uphill and I like the breaks. But yesterday I just felt like being more mellow so I ran at a steady pace instead. It was a really nice run and I didn't even take breaks after the hills. I had to take a laptop home with me from work, so had to take transit. Annoying.

I've been called in to be in a jury pool for the next 3 days (minimum) so it messes up my rotation, but I've decided to think on the positive side and use it as an opportunity to get in more strength training than I would normally do. I'll go for a run when I finish my coffee today and then follow it up with STS Total Body (helps that I woke up and hour early because my cat was lying on my chest purring at me). The laptop is so I can get some work done while sitting in the room waiting to do my civic duty for three days. I don't mind at all the jury duty, but the timing could not be worse at work. What the hell, my bosses don't seem to be pissed at me about it and I thought they would be.

I've been reading with interest all of your trials and tribulations. I don't usually have enough time to respond to individual posts, unfortunately. (Interestingly enough, I do seem to have time to do a long post on my own trials and tribulations - so, not only a braggart with a big ego, somewhat self-involved too. I guess it comes with the territory!)

Off to choke down more coffee and decide what run to do this morning. Hey, I want to build a new playlist of really motivating songs with a great beat and not too repetitive in lyrics. Do any of you have any favourites to share?

Jenn I posted a thread on Open Discussion asking about that Bento Kettlebell workout. If I've never done a kettlebell routine, but am considered an advanced exerciser, do you think it's OK to start with Dynamics? I saw she has one that's more geared towards "beginners" but I don't want to waste my money on a workout that will be too easy in a few weeks. And if I DO get Dynamics, what weight kettlebell(s) should I get?

Janis I know what you mean about having to do your own research because the doctors don't give you all the info. A few years back, I twisted my leg in tae kwon do class. Hurt like crazy when it happened, but subsided after a day or two. A week later, I went back to class and my knee kept popping, so I went to the doctor. Didn't get to actually see him - saw his nurse practitioner. She had a look, said it was strained and gave me a referral to a PT if the pain didn't get better. A few days later, I went to the therapist... took her all of 2 minutes to determine I had a complete tear of my ACL and sent me to a surgeon. Shouldn't the NP figured that out? i didn't actually HAVE to have the surgery, but if I wanted to continue to do all of the types of activity I loved, it was highly recommended. Since my knee kept popping out, I figured I'd do it. I've remained a little ticked at the NP for that - my doctor, of course, would have been more thorough, but it's not always easy to get to see him.

Last night I did STS M1D10, then the ab section of Muscle Max. This morning was 3 miles on the treadmill trying to improve my pace. Don't know why it matters to me on the treadmill, since I run faster naturally outside, but it still annoys me that my pace is slower on the machine.

Good Morning All-

Yelling Across two continents or two countires or even one country is a feat unless of course it is Guam or Delaware.

Jenn- The supporting leg definitely does feel it. I remember when I first started barre workouts my supporting leg did feel it more. An instructor tweaked my body position only slightly and then I felt it less in the supporting leg. Yes, the core work in PS 2 is a killer. I think that all of her core segments are good.

Cathy- I hope that things continue to go well for your Mom

workout this morning- Insanity- Max Cardio Condtioning

Have a Great Day!

Just got back from the jury summons- it turns out I was actually summoned for a single trial, not to be part of a pool. I waited all day, bored out of my mind, got moved from room to room to room to room, finally got up there, said 4 words (yes, first name, last name, no) and was dismissed. I actually came really close, with the judge accepting me, the crown attorney accepting me and the triers accepting me. Then I had to move in front of the witness box and face the defendant. We looked at each other for a few seconds, then his lawyer said "challenge" and that was it - I was gone. As I left, I saw the defendant looking at me and talking to his lawyer, and I mouthed "good luck" to him. I could tell he was talking about me. I had the feeling that the defendant wanted me, but I wasn't the right colour for the lawyer.

The charges were attempted murder, forcible confinement and kidnapping using a prohibited weapon and a prohibited firearm. I felt a little torn about the whole thing - I can't really take three weeks off work for the trial, but I wanted to do my civic duty and it's an interesting process. To be honest, I think the defense lawyer made a mistake, as I tend to be somewhat biased for the defense in general and I truly would have been open-minded about his client. The defendant is a young man of colour, and I think the defense lawyer was probably playing it safe and trying to find jury members also of colour. When I looked at the jury members already chosen, they were mostly people of colour.

Ah well, I did my duty by coming out - it's not my fault I wasn't chosen. And my bosses will be happy, anyway.

Donna, thank you so much for taking the time to write out all those playlists for me! I can tell we have similar tastes, as some of them are already on the playlist I'm building! "I got soul but I'm not a soldier..."

Morningstar not a problem - I was ridiculously bored at work today. LOL. I hate waiting for projects to start.

I had to do jury duty once. 3 teenaged boys were accused of possession of a firearm. I wasn't given much of an opportunity to get out of it. They asked where I worked, what I did for a living and what my degree was in. I was an executive secretary at the time and had a degree in psychology. That's all they needed and they took me. Curses! We convicted the little hoodlums.

Happy Wednesday Warriors – wow – middle of the week already!

Regina – Jon Belanger’s Pilates dvd would be good for absolute beginners to Pilates or for someone refining technique. It is classical Pilates- no yoga, no fusion. I did the beginner portion the other day, just to get a feel and I appreciated the way he gave instructions. Calm, clear, concise and kind. I liked him immediately. Yesterday I did the intermediate section, in this section he showed how to make the moves more advanced and added some moves, the pace moved along faster too. Again, I appreciated his instruction. Sometimes when instruction is given in a slightly different way than another instructor, you hear it better or understand it better. This was the case with Jon. He said a few things that were just different enough and useful enough to make this, somewhat beginner, dvd worthwhile. Plus he was down to earth, just listening to him and watching him had a calming, soothing effect. Mellow guy. I’d like him as a friend. Here is a the product link from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Discovering-P...ef=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1295476869&sr=8-1
I haven’t tried Bikram. I do have a Tony Sanchez dvd I’ve been meaning to give a try though, I’ll let you know what I think.

Cathy – It wasn’t the vineyard walk that made me achey, but on re-reading my post I can understand the confusion. I was actually on a venting roll. I was wondering why a 3 mile hilly vineyard hike had no residual painful effects, yet walking/running on the tm for twenty minutes and then walking on sidewalks for two miles did. Same distance and pretty much same effort , but different effect. So Derek can take public school classes even though he isn’t an enrolled student? That’s pretty cool.

Elena – I love disc 3, it is one of my favorites. I am inspired to try the LBB standing add ons, is that the one everyone is talking about where Cathe uses the tower? I’ll have to add them to my disc 12 next Wednesday. What did you do today?

MJ – YAY! YAY! YAY! High five’s girl! Does watching tennis help you fall asleep and stay asleep? Or is it just too exciting?

Morningstar – You forgot to include: save babies from burning buildings and yodeling. Lol.

In all seriousness folks, Morningstar is a hero, she saved the life of a young man one early winter morning while out on one of her runs. Wonder where Christian is now?

Donna – thanks for your commiserating story. So frustrating, isn’t it? How fortunate for you that the physiotherapist was on the ball. Sheesh. Interesting how your pace is slower on the tm than outside, the opposite is true for me. Hmmm. (pondering silently here, give me a moment.) Hey, fantastic playlist. Even before I saw Mornin’star’s response, I knew she’d like it. Man, I gotta download me some Roots.

As for me – (let the self-possession begin): I did 10 minutes on the rowing machine, then sts disc 9 legs, then Rowan and I went for a walk in a non-hilly, pretty much level place. I have no idea how far we walked, but it was about 80 minutes. I am almost to the end of week one of my no sugar challenge. Yay! And I’ve lost 2#’s. Yay!

Hi to everyone else who hasn't posted as of yet, and to all the MIA's. (Tara, Tara, Tara, Tara)
:D:D

Janis I really need to ditch the sugar with you. I've gone more than 2 years without it, so I know I can. I just don't WANT to right now. And yes, homeschoolers can take non-core classes at public schools. So, things like art, computers, band, choir, gym....

I did jury duty once. Breaking and entering. One of the guys was already convicted and in jail and testified. Told us exactly how they'd gotten past the security system and step by step everything they did. Open and shut case, but one of the jurors was just so not wanting to grasp that and kept us deliberating for hours longer than we needed to be.

Donna I can relate to what you went through. In December, 2009, I was going down some bleachers and felt something snap in my calf. Of course it was the weekend, so I couldn't see my wonderful DO sports doc. Went to urgent care because I was afraid of doing anything that would make it worse and saw a PA. Told her I'd felt it snap and she did a very brief exam and told me (in a very superior tone) that nothing was torn (because of course I being a lowly non-medical person wouldn't know). They wrapped it and I left and called first thing Mon morning to get an appt with my dr. He examined it far more thoroughly and told me that I'd torn the connecting fibers of the achilles tendon. Thankfully NOT the achilles.

Janis - yes, the LBB add on is with the tower. Love it - my legs are shaking like Elmo when I do it. :p

Today I did Legs & Glutes and followed that with 4DS LIS Cardio. Been pretty tired today. Likely leftover from my very early Tuesday morning. Went sledding this afternoon - boys sledding with friends, me and my friends in the warming house chatting. So, nice they are old enough now to do those things without supervision. :D I'd much rather be warm, than standing out in the cold watching them.

In all seriousness folks, Morningstar is a hero, she saved the life of a young man one early winter morning while out on one of her runs. Wonder where Christian is now?

Okay, when I first read this, I said "I did what?" I just had no idea what you were talking about. Then I remembered the young man (I was actually walking to work, hence the confusion), although I didn't remember his name (damn, you have a great memory!) I do hope he's doing well. I still think of him (although apparently, not enough!) when I pass the corner I found him or see firefighters working as first responder paramedics. It is unfortunately not the first opportunity I've had to call 911 for someone who has overdosed on the streets of Toronto. That doesn't make me a hero, you know. Now, Cathe, she's a hero- think how many lives she's saved through kicking our asses!

Yay on the 2#s! But more importantly, you seem to have your spirit back and I'm thrilled about that.

warrior lightning speed post on my day before bed....

work was ridiculous (not in the fun way)...hitting little yellow tennis balls in the chilly fog that came out of nowhere tonight saved the day (helps when you have enough imagination to put people's faces on the balls while hitting them ;))...now will be retiring to my cozy bed and fall asleep while watching people who get paid lots and lots of money to hit little yellow tennis balls while enjoying a trip to australia...

looks like everyone had a pretty decent day today....good to see...will catch up tomorrow :)
