Wish me luck...extensive bloodwork today...:(

Clarissa I too had a large nodule on my thyroid and every surgeon I saw wanted to remove it immediately. After ultrasound showed it was a working part of my thyroid I just let it be. After a few years it disappeared on its own. This happened to me about a year after I had my first child. I too was very scared. But was also relieved that I had decided to have the ultrasound rather than just have the surgery. Best of luck to you.

((((((HUGS))))))to you! You are in my prayers. Please keep us posted. Your Cathe friends are here to support you.

Well I had the bloodwork - 6 vials and I fainted. I tried hard. Just such a vagal response. Wish I didn't have that problem..feel so weak.

Then I had ultrasound. I am told I have a goiter and some large nodules. Next step is biopsy. I am so scared out of my mind right now I can't even think straight... :(

Thanks again, all.

Oh, you poor thing.:( I'm sorry that you have to go through all of this. You have been added to the people on my list of prayers.

Hey Clarissa,
We've had 4 nurses in our small nursing staff with thyroid malfunction in the past couple years...2 are your age, and it was post-partum with both. The one was "post partum thyroiditis"....thyroid went bonkers after each of her kids but really bad after the 2nd...she went hyper to hypo and is being weaned off meds now...4 years later...the second had a working diagnosis of Hashimoto's (which my boss has had since the birth of her 2nd child and it requires med adjustments periodically, but otherwise, normal life), but diagnosis was changed to something different, I forget at the moment..but she ended up having surgery to have the thyroid removed (I took care of her post-op! She didn't need ICU, but she got the vip treatment)...and she's felt great ever since......3rd nurse, in her 40's, it was cancer - that's the bad news.. the good news is that it plays very fair - (a professor of mine is 87 and had thyroid cancer in her 20's!) And this nurse, had it removed, all is well...4th is my boss with Hashimoto's and like I said, she does great now that its treated.

So, from what I've seen socially and in the hospital, thyroid illness is treatable and manageable - its just a nuisance getting to that point!

Hang in there...being a working mom is to constantly feel overwhelmed - how well I know, and with your hormones tearing you down, I ache for you....one day at a time, and cut yourself a break and get some rest when you have a chance....the house doesn't have to be immaculate, dinner doesn't have to be from scratch...and be comforted that you have complete strangers rooting for you!

Keep us posted!

The not knowing is the worst part. Once you know, you can handle it, whatever the results are. As for fainting when they do the vampire bit on you, I have to admit, I'm kinda jealous! I always wanted to be the kind of gentle soul that faints, but alas, I'm a hearty lass, and they can drain me until there's nuthin' left and I'm still standing. Okay, so I'm weird.

For sure you are! Because fainting is something I am new at...and i can tell you, you think you are going to DIE. I am so serious. Worst experience ever... :(
