Gobias, (not Cathe here, but ...) Cathe had a little Q&A on Facebook today, where she said she's not using 1RM for this series. I'm not on Facebook but was able to read questions, answers & comments through this site.
I’m glad to know that. I had a hard time grasping the 1 rep max thing because I’m like ok if I can do 1 bicep curl with a 20 pound dumbbell do I use that in my 1 RM calculation? I like when Cathe says what weights she’s using because weight selection can vary widely depending on rep speed, number of reps, sets, order of exercises, total body instead of splits.
I loved the 1RM for STS because it did all the math for us and when we had to lower 20% or did double-wave pyramids (or something like that), I like that it figured out all those increments for us. That said, it is sometimes nice to not have to do all that ahead of time and just jump into the workouts. I have not been this excited for a series in a loooong time! Here's hoping Cathe does an STS Shock Cardio 2.0 too!!
