RE: People eventually become accustomed to the "new
and improved you" and they do eventually stop commenting. I too like many others come to places like this and VF and to discuss my passion and hobby for working out because "lay people" get tired or bored of hearing about it.
Now, intead of people telling me that I am too thin or look too muscular, they actually come to me for advice on how to get there. Most are disappointed that there is no one quick way to do it. In fact, I had a friend stop me in a store the other day to ask how I did it.
Anyway, people will get used to how you look and what it takes to get and be there. I have now "looked" the same for a few years and all my friends know I work out consistently but for the most part, we don't go there unless they ask. Some responses are based upon the contrast of where you were and where you are now and some, unfortunately, are based a bit on envy.
BTW, here is a funny story. A couple of weekends ago, I had taken my children to a skating competition and hockey tournament. In the hotel, my daughter got mixing in with some boys from a hockey team that were a few years older. In the room, one of the boys started flexing his muscles, etc. My daughter promptly tells this boy (probably 13 or so) that "my mother has bigger muscles that you". The guy looks at her like yeah right and her friend sitting next to her says, "It's true". Then I walk in and my daughter says, "Mom, flex your muscles". I didn't because I was wearing a long sleeved bulky sweater but I had to smile at that one. Oh, and I saw the boy's muscles and my daughter was right!
