Cathe just updated her blog with a new pic from Low-Impact Circuit. OMG, look at the sweat!! And bands WITH a barbell...

I think I'm in for a TOUGH workout...

OMG I just looked at that picture moments ago. A band and a barbell at once. Holy fried muscles, batman.

Age only matters if you're cheese.

Even before that was posted on the blog, I had a suspicion this was going to be a tough tough workout. I kept thinking of LowMax and how deceptive that name was at first but we all found out what a burner that one was. I figured that Low Impact Circuit would be along the same lines.

Biceps are my least favorite body part to work. Hopefully this will make me love doing biceps although I doubt it. Just because it's low impact, with Cathe it's never low intensity. Ouch!

Am I the only one that thinks this looks like way overkill?

So, tying the band onto your barbell will give you more resistance on the downswing, right? Otherwise, why not just add more weight?

It just doesn't look logical or safe to me. I'm pretty sure I'll not be tying the band on my barbell like that!

Jeanmarie I agree I like a little tension but dang......

It looks to me they are holding the band in place like GS'S????

JeanneMarie,

It's does look a little overkill to me. Like 25 minutes of bouncing up and down in MIC hi/lo or 400 walking lunges or 8 sets of pyramid down push-ups...

But then that's what Cathe's all about, right? Not just fitness but uber-fitness...

Maybe the band is suppose to give a little boost of tension at the peak of the exercise, not throughout the exericise.

Ah, I don't know what the he11 I'm talking about, as usual. :p

Barbells and dumbells have the most 'tension' near the bottom of the move, while bands have the most 'tension' near the top of the move, so combining them emulates some types of weight equipment that has even tension throughout the move.

Keli Roberts showed some dumbell/band combo moves in Shape or some other magazine a while ago. I thought it was a very effective way to change up resistance and give the muscles a challenge they aren't used to. Not so sure about the bands and bar, though.

Actually this is not overkill at all if you are looking to increase muscle strength. Power lifters use this type of technique to improve their bench, deadlift, and squat.
