Who was your gateway drug to Cathe?

It started with....

Someone called Brenda F vid's. her vids r steppin and wtg.s, then original/new firm vids, then Gin Miller, Buns of steels/Tamilee Webb and then step in motion-Cathe:D.

Anyone remember Joanie Greggains? I used watch my mom do her workouts many, many, years ago.

Then it was Gilad, Jane Fonda, and Kathy Smith.

I found Cathe on FitTV. Thank you FitTV!!!

I started with Denise Austin and found her challenging if you can believe that!! Quickly moved to the firm then saw Cathe on FitTV about 6 yrs ago and have followed her since. Recently begain incorporating Jillian Michaels and some Exercise TV trainers.

My short answer: Collage Video and Google!

The longer story: I learned about the Collage Video catalog from an ad in Shape magazine in the early 90's - pre-internet days! I must have dismissed Cathe's workouts as too advanced for me, or maybe I thought they were too expensive because I was a starving grad student in those days. :) Anyway, I remember my favorite instructor was Kathy Smith.

Fast-forward almost 20 years to a few months ago: I'd been exercising at the gym and outdoors, and wanted to start working out more at home. I remembered Collage Video and wondered if they'd survived from pre-internet days when I used to order from their print catalog and toll-free number, so I google'd them and found their excellent website. I ordered Low Max and loved it so much! That was only a few months ago but I already have about a dozen Cathe workouts.

Wow! It's like a walk down workout memory lane!! Denise Austin & Leslie Sansome were just toooo saccharine-coated for me... tooo sweet and not serious enough!! I still do some of Billy Blank's Tae Bo, Did the 8-minute dvd's, Kathy Smith, Buns, hips and thighs of steel- sometimes do those still, and some of the others mentioned. Woa! Fitness Flashback.

I recently purchased The Wave and will end up selling it. But Cathe is still my go-to gal for the right mix of toughness and warmth!!

I am laughing as I read this!!!

I did a few Buns of Steel videos, then a Tracy York and Michelle Dozois and thought I was the COOLEST thing ever!!!:eek:
Made up my mind that I was an ADVANCED exerciser and bought Step N Motion, Step Works etc. and CRIED for days.:eek: I obviously was not as advanced as I thought I was. But I was hooked on Cathe and never looked back.
I was on cathe's site every day watching clips and reading all the posts and thinking.........no way could I ever reach that level. But I did. And I've been here since 1999!!!

Kathryn, you've brought me down memory lane by mentioning the Cher workouts! That step one with Keli Roberts was fun, and yes, she was wearing what looked like black lingerie! I think I may still have that one somewhere and may dredge it up for old times sake...

Anyone remember a TV workout, I think it was on ESPN maybe, with Cory Everson and some other people? They worked out with weights on a beach or something. Was it called Bodyshaping? I've been trying to remember the name of it.

Someone mentioned Gilad, and I'd forgotten all about him! I used to record his TV workouts every day and do them every night. A gal at work used to do the same thing and the following day we'd compare notes as to how we got through the workout, etc....

Fun thread... I already previously posted how I found Cathe, but I just had to chime in again when Cher was mentioned!!!

I remember that. I worked in a restuarant at the time and they would play it first thing in the morning at the bar - I figure it was the closest they could come to porn without losing their female customers!

I started out with a TV show called "20 Minute Workout". It was an aerobic show. I had the original "Buns of Steel" with the guy instructor. I also did Gilad on TV. Later I did the "Firm" then found Cathe on FitTV and never looked back.

In the eighties, I was great at step, and then I forgot it all. I had a Collage Video catalogue, and I picked out Low Max. The moves were a little hard at first, but I rewound and rewound, and I ended up loving the workout and the music rocks. Of course, I had to eventually buy a club step, but it was well worth it, and I use it several times a week. I hope the economy gets better, and I can pay for a gym membership. The good gyms in Staten Island run 50 dollars a month.

I arrived at Cathe via Fit TV!

I had my twin daughters in October of 2000. In 2002 i started noticing I needed to start some sort of an exercise program so I started with Denise Austin.

I had my son in Feb of 2004 and Denise just wasn't doing if for me and so I decided to ck out Fit Tv. There were a lot of programs and I tried a little of Gilad and I kept seeing Cathe. I would keep skipping past when a weight one would be on. Well, finally one day I was curious and tried it I LOVED IT.

I NEED a challenge and to be honest Cathe does that for me and when u find that u stick with it and until she does not challenge me anymore I'm all hers. I started buying up all her videos and I own them all. I have come across other fitness instructors for areas she does not teach like for the treadmill, bosou, and kettlebells.

I do have to admit Tracey and Amy are right under Cathe for variety and challegeability.

I am mad though, I had to move to Florida 2 years ago and I do not have the space to do her workouts here, so when I go back to Michigan for the summer and over Christmas is when I get my Cathe fix.

I was working with a personal trainer in the late 80's/early 90's and she encouraged me to buy a step so I could get in some good cardio workouts at home. She gave me a Collage catalog and that's where I found Cathe!

Prior to all of that, I first worked out with Jack Lalanne! My mom used to turn on the TV and work out along with him and I would join in on the fun :D. I also worked out with several other TV fitness personalities like Joanie Greggains, Gilad, Charlene Prickett, Denise Austin, Gilad, and another ESPN show -- I can't remember the name of it, but it featured Cory Everson. Does anybody remember that show?

Gosh when i first started exercising on and off in highschool (20 yrs ago! WOW!) it was mostly jane fonda! then I moved on to kathy smith...leslie sansone...great body garanteed...the firm...I am sure there are more but those are the ones that stand out in my mind! i didn't stick with it long term though until about May of 2002 when I wanted to lose weight for my wedding which was the following March! That's when i started and never looked back! I discovered Cathe in about December of 2004 when I was about 3 months pregnant with my son. I got basic step and body fusion and the small step for christmas and the rest is history! LOL

I started working out in 1980 long before I had a VCR (were there workout tapes then? I don't think so). I swam at my YMCA and I still swim daily. I added home workouts around 1986 or so, I did have a Jane Fonda record in the early 1980s with a book but I never used it consistently.

I started getting the collage catalog but was askeered of most of the instructors including Cathe, even though I went to lunchtime aerobics/step/weight classes at work (for 25 years till I got laid off in 2005). In 1996 I got my first home computer, found videofitness.com right away and everyone was talking about Cathe and the firm.
My first Cathe was Power Max. I have them all now, including out of print ones (CIA1006 anyone???)

I started with Jane Fonda's 60 Minute Workout (still love it!) and the Original Buns of Steel (STILL the most difficult floor work IMHO). About 5 years ago, I bought a small step from Target that came with a couple Cathe DVDs and started watching Fit TV about the same time. The rest is history...I know have all of Cathe's DVDs and love everyone!

I had Legs and Buns of Steel. Both of those work outs were kick-butt!:)
