Who has gained weight on BC pill?

I have been taking YAZ for the past 6 months and have steadily gained 7 lbs. that I cannot get rid of. Has this happened to you? I am ready to either change brands or quit taking altogether. What brand prevents weight gain or does everyone respond differently to different brands?

Thanks.

I only tried Ortho Tricyclen a few years ago in my early 20's, and if I remember correctly I put on maybe 3-5 pounds--just not in my BOOBS where I WANTED that extra weight! x(

Well, crap, I'm starting Yaz on Sunday so I hope I don't gain weight! I was on bcp years ago and don't remember too much of a problem. But, Yaz is supposed to help with PMS problems -- so, I figure it's worth it to gain 3-5 pounds vs. being so b*tchy - at least I'm sure my family thinks so ;)

I am on a pill called Marvelon (I believe its American name is Desogen) and it has not affected my weight at all. I know several other people who are on the same pill and have not had any changes either. Also, my periods no longer hurt which is a huge plus for me because they used to make me feel as though I was going to die. Having said that, everyone reacts differently to every pill, and you should probably test out different ones until you find something that you are happy with. I just though I'd mention this particular one since I have yet to hear of anyone to have bad results with it.

Good luck!!!!

I think it affects people differently. My best friend was on Loestrin and she said she gained from it - it made her bloated - plus she had her period all the time - needless to say, she absolutely hated it. So, she switched to Yaz and *loves* it. I'm on Loestrin, but I don't have any problems with it and am still able lose weight while taking it.

Funny, I was going to post the same question this morning.

I am starting Yaz on Sunday and terrified that I will gain weight. I'd love some more feedback on this and if anyone experienced weight gain.

I never gained weight as a result of being on the Pill and I tried several different types during the 8 years I was on BCP. However, I had other side effects that I couldn't live with anymore and had to stop using BCP.

I've also never gained weight on ocps. I stopped taking Yaz in December and now I seem to have more of a problem loosing weight-maybe my hormones are off who knows. For those of you who are starting Yaz I really liked it.

When I was younger, I never gained weight on the pill. Last year, I started on ortho cept again, and I gained 5 pounds and could not stop eating. I literaly never felt full. Anyhow, the Dr. said that pills do not make you gain weight, however, they can increase your appetite. Isn't that a nice play on words?!! Now, I use nuvaring, and I lost the five pounds and my eating is more under control. Melissa

I gained 25 pounds when I went OFF the pill ;) Lucky for me, I dropped the weight about 9 months later and was rewarded with a beautiful little girl!

I never noticed a weight gain when I went on the pill, but I was in my early 20s and could pretty much do anything without gaining weight. Once I got close to my 30's, the story began to change dramatically :(.

What I DID notice, and something that people do not talk about, is my sex drive went way UP once I went OFF the pill. I thought at first it was just the excitement of trying to have a baby, but it is now 5 years later and things just keep getting better. I tried to go back on the pill for a short time and I got so b****y that I stopped after 4 days. I find that my own natural hormone cycle gives me a really fun rise and fall in my sex drive that the pill seemed to flatten out. I think that it is best FOR ME that I do not ingest any artificial hormones and luckily I have completed my family so my husband had a no-scalpel vasectomy and I have no worries about unplanned pregnancies any more.

Sorry if this is too much info, but I think it is an important aspect of birth control pills.

Hi Heidi:
I also started Yaz this past Sunday. How are you feeling? I'm having trouble falling asleep. I've noticed that I'm a little constipated (sorry to say) in the morning and thinking about increasing my fiber - though I already eat clean and eat about 30 grams of fiber a day. I almost stopped taking it today because of my lack of sleep and thinking Yaz might be the cause. I remember when I was on Yasmine 4 years ago, I had some issues with sleeping. I am also taking Yaz to help my PMDD problems, my husband says I'm a different person 2 weeks before my period.
Anyway, long story short... How are you feeling?

I think everyone is different. I used to blame my ten pound weight gain (roughly when I started the pill) on the pill, but I was just married and getting "comfortable." :p

For the longest time I thought those stubborn ten pounds were from the pill, but I got more serious about exercise and diet and I am back to my normal weight. :)

We're taught in med school that the "weight gain" is actually d/t water retention and that your body will adjust w/in 3 months. Yaz and Yasmin should be better for this since they contain drospirinone, a diuretic. If you are taking any high blood pressure meds, please make sure you let your OB/Gyne know so that she can monitor your electrolytes.
