Which PiYo package should I get?

Dear Enablers,

I know very little about PiYo, having just heard about it for the 1st time yesterday while going through Cathe Threads. It looks like something I will like, even though I have done yoga maybe 5 times in my life and never done pilates.

I have narrowed down my PiYo package options to four:

1st one: has all the basics + Hardcore on the Floor DVD (~$70)
2nd one: has all the basics + Turbo HiiT DVD (~$70)
3rd / 4th one: *One* of the above + Full Body DVD + Strong Legs DVD + Slide & Glide discs + Yoga Mat (~$120)

So my first question is should I get Hardcore on the Floor DVD or Turbo HiiT DVD? I love Cathe HiiT's and could always use more HiiT options, however, I don't mind always using Cathe for my HiiT fix. I am leaning towards Hardcore on the Floor. Does anyone use either workout again and again?

Second question. For an extra $50, is it worth getting the Full Body and Strong Legs DVD? Are those workouts you use again and again? I already have Cathe Slide & Glide discs, but I don't mind having a spare pair since she doesn't offer them anymore. As for the Yoga mat, nice to have but not necessary for me. Therefore it would be an extra $50 for the 2 extra DVDs for me. I don't mind the price if the workouts are something I would reach for semi-often.

Third question. I initially was looking for yoga/pilates workouts for my rest day or relax day or just a night stretch. These look like full blown workouts, am I right? I would not do these on a rest day?

Thanks!

I would look at all the sets and see what you need/interested in ? I usually buy the basic set and get the extra dvd's later on, if I I think I need them :) I have done a few PiYo workouts, I consider them as full body weight workouts. They are not relaxing yoga workouts, lol. You will work up a sweat. On YT you can find full PiYo classes, see if you like it first. If you want me too I can sent you a link? BTW, doesn't Hardcore on the Floor DVD come with the set?

I just ordered the basic set, Mary threw in the Hardcore on the Floor. I didn't need the most expensive. I already had gliding discs, and a yoga mat, so, the basic package, with Hardcore on the Floor worked very well for me. You may want to check out You Tube. I thought I was going to get a nice little stretch package. Not so much, sweat was dripping off my chin. Lots of planks, and downward facing dogs. I had to wash my yoga mat every day. Sweat, and Drench were quite challenging at first.

definitely worth trying before you buy. For some reason I didn't get on with piyo, and my set has just sat on the shelf! Others love it...

Edited to add: on reflection, I think it's the warm-ups I don't enjoy. They're pretty much the same on all the workouts, and the 'piyo cross' move made me feel a bit queasy!

If you want to sell it, sent me a p.m :)

Now that others have come out, let me add to my previous post. I haven't used PiYo in about a year. Once the challenge was gone, I lost interest.

Well, thank you all for the feedback, the links, the videos (Belinda!), and your input. I am going to preview a few of these first. I usually know if I will like a video from reading about it and the feedback here on Cathe.com, but at the PiYo price, I had better be sure. I also know which of you Cathletes and I have about the same taste in workouts (I am side-eyeing you, Justinef).

*Justinef: what made you queasy on workouts? Do you mean you got dizzy from movements? I can't handle pivots and turns during step due to dizziness.

*Phyllis and Karen - can you elaborate why you didn't care for PiYo? Just a short answer will do (bored, repetition, music, not my style, etc.). You mentioned once the challenge was gone you lost interest - do you mean the challenge was gone because you are in better shape after first starting it and it was now considered an easy/basic workout for you?

*Yes, Hardcore on the Floor comes free with the basic set if you buy it through BB or an affiliate (Mary). My dilemma is I could get that video as a freebie or the HiiT video as a freebie (not both unless I buy separately). I don't see much feedback on the Hiit video.

*My other dilemma is deciding whether the videos Full Body & Strong Legs are worth an extra $50. I just don't see many reviews on those two.

*As for streaming, please correct me if I am wrong, but don't you need high speed internet? I don't have it in my area. I have it at work. If there is a way to download it at work and then bring it home, that would be an option. I have never looked into if that is a possibility and I am not technologically savvy.

Thanks, I will have to do more research if I want this or not. I like the idea of body weighted workouts.

You are welcome :) PiYo will make you work. You do a lot of downward facing dog/plank hold. Not easy if you don't have the upper body strength. Put you will get it. Those workouts are hard. Lots of body weight. Think of Pilates, yoga fusion all rolled into one :) I do a lot of yoga/pilates workouts. I like PiYo. I know PiYo didn't go over well with a lot of people. Those workouts are not easy by all means :)

You could go over to videofitness.com. There are lots of threads about Piyo. I got it when it first came out and was very excited about it. But I found it too repetitive and the first 2 discs were just useless...too easy. It is hard for me to remember that much about it. But I know I got the basic set and it seems most liked the add ons the best. Again check out videofitness. If you don't belong, join and you may even be able to acquire it in a trade.
