What Vitamins do you take??

I'm almost out of my good-for-nothing Costco vitamins so I'm looking for a good new brand. I'd love to get the Shaklee ones, but they are so expensive I'd like to try something else first, before signing up with them.

Anyone have a brand they particularly like? What about liquid vitamins??

My DH and I both take them, so I'd like to get more than a 30-day supply in one bottle. I figure "natural" is the way to go, but there are all kinds of sketchy websites out there and I can't tell which is which. Any help is much appreciated!!!

Shaklee, Shaklee, Shaklee!!! I know they're expensive, but soooooo worth it! I was skeptical at first, but like you my brand names were gone and I needed a boost. I decided to just try Shaklee because they have that money back guarantee. That was in July. Now I take them, just got my kids on them, and now DH wants to try them too. And my mom wants them as well! I really didn't think that would happen, but try them and you'll be amazed. And an added perk is that Robin from these boards is a terrific distributor - so helpful with any questions. She's great. (Am I allowed to say that?!) If you can find a way to swing the cost, I would definitely recommend Shaklee.

I take a store brand multi-vitamin and some extra vitamin C every day and that is fine for me. I don't know what kind of results you are looking for from a vitamin but I take them simply b/c they help me combat cold/flu. I get sick a lot less now then when I didn't take a vitamin...though I never got sick all that much to begin with. :)

I went through a spell when I thought my vitamins were no longer working - I had been taking Vitalert for years - because I was very tired all the time. I got some Shaklee vitamins and the Soy Protein powder, and they did me absolutely no good - I felt no better after 6 weeks on them. I realized I just needed an "exercise vacation" after not taking a week off since January, took the time off and went back to Vitalert, and I'm just fine now.

For me they were not worth the money, but that's just me and MY experience.

Hi, Lorrie. Just curious: Why do you take vitamins? Which ones do you take?

I don't usually take vitamins at all unless I'm feeling under the weather, and then I might supplement some vitamin C and E. Most of what I take are minerals or herbs.

Nacy -

Just curious as to what your nutritionist recommended about vitamin supplements. Could you share that with us?

Just Do It! :)

Sure, Honeybunch. The only supplement my nutritionist recommends is GNC Calcimate Plus 800. It contains vitamin D, calcium (as citrate malate), magnesium and potassium. She indicated that it's very difficult to get enough calcium in the diet without a supplement. I get the impression that she doesn't recommend vitamins for healthy adults who have good diets. That's why I was wondering why others take vitamins.

Nancy - I take vitamins because I should be really good about eating all of the veggies, fruits, whole grains, and lean proteins that are supposed to supply me with my adequate vitamins and minerals (I try, but I'm not always successful.) I also believe the mega agribusiness that we used to know as farming has so depleted the nutrient value of soils that there is no way even the healthiest and wholesomest - if that's a word - of foods can provide those nutrients like they could even 20 years ago. Let alone the additives and chemicals that are added in the growing process. (I'm also not good about all organic all the time.) So I take supplements. I take the Shaklee basic strip (multi, B-complex, C and E) along with calcium magnesium, fish oil, CLA, and acidophilus. I definitely notice if I don't get my vitamins - and I'm sure a part of that is more psychological than strictly physical, but I couldn't go without. Just my two cents.

Hi Amy! You really ought to purchase Shaklee there's nothing else that compares. Yes their expensive but these vitamins hit the bloodstream within 15 min. All of their supplements work. All other vitamins have fillers & a wax coating on them which when you drop the vitamin into a cup of vinegar it should dissolve within 1/2 hour. If it doesn't, your just throwing your money away. And when you become a member w/Shaklee for only $20 you save money so its really not all that expensive. HTH, Kathy:D

Kathy-

Not ALL vitamins contain fillers, wax and starches...I don't take Shaklee, and mine don't contain any of those ingredients...Not trying to be confrontational, just correcting a statement...

Hello,
I am a FIRM believer in vitamins. My ds8 has a blood disorder, and after he stopped responding to treatments I put him on megadose of vit. C. (natures made) His platlet count went from 17 to 43 within a week. This is WONDERFUL for him. I decided when he stopped responding to his treatments that I had better come up with something because Dr. wanted to put him on steroids. He has pretty much been hospital free since we added the C. The Nurses even tell other pts parents with this disorder how well he is doing. A very helpful book is called Super Immunity for children. Also the vitamins for dummies book. I have started to add more vitamins, and am hoping we can beat this.

Take care,
~Nicole

Hi Amy!
I take All-One Multi-Vitamins in powder form. One heaping tablespoon contains over 50+ vitamins, minerals and Amino acids. There's no fillers, sugar, binders, gluten, yeast, etc. I mix it with my orange juice every morning. I buy a 2.2lb can which is approximately a 2 month (66day) supply. I usually buy from www.vitacost.com because they have the best prices. Here is the link: http://www.vitacost.com/AllOneOriginalMultiplePowder/searchby-PN/searchtext-all one (hope it works!)

I also take their calcium/magnesium powder. I agree with Lorrie as to the reasons I take vitamins and also very strongly agree with what Nicole said regarding Vitamin C. I have seen the benefits of what Vitamin C can do. I usually take about 3 to 5 grams of vitamin C each day and it helps TREMENDOUSLY with my allergies. After suffering my entire life from allergies, I started working with a holistic nurse who educated me on what Vitamin C, particularly Ester-C (buffered form of vitamin c, gentler on the stomach) can do. If I get lazy and don't take my vitamins/supplements for a while, I just feel terrible.

Sorry this was so long-winded but I hope it helps you:+ :)

I have a vegan meal replacement/protein powder called "Vegan Complete" that I use in my morning smoothies. It contains a lot of vitamins and minerals. In addition to that, I take calcium with D, vitamin C (Emergen C when working out and if I'm having allergy problems), vegan joint formula with glucosamine, flax meal or oil.
