What to do with circuit workouts

I love circuit workouts like LIC, DM, Bootcamp (the original) and the like but I never know what I'm supposed to do the next day. Do my muscles need 48 hours to recover? I'd like to do a 3 day split with the Gym Styles and circuit workouts but I'm afraid that's asking too much of my body. Should I stick with straight cardio if I'm doing strictly weight videos? If I do a circuit workout can I do another circuit workout the next day? Does it matter? What do you think?;)

If you do a circuit

Then I would think that the next day you do a strictly cardio workout. What does everybody else think?

I would say strictly cardio as well ( or rest day)..............or if you're not sure compare your notes with all of cathe's and FF's rotations and see how they handled circuit workouts....:)

Missy, IMHO you should simply ask your muscles whether they are up for a strength set the day after a circuit workout. If you're experiencing DOMS on The Day After then stick with cardio; if not, then by all means go with a strength set if that's what you want. Often, circuit workouts are designed so that the resistance cycles are more for lighter muscle endurance and a means to keep the cardio factor going, rather than true strength conditioning.

So let your own bod be your guide!

Sometimes I would go for Cardio and Stretch the next day, other times I might pair a Cathe circuit workout with a FIRM Cardio & Sculpt workout the next day.
This month I am doing Cathe Circuit workouts on Saturday and on Sunday I run 3 miles and do a stretch tape.

I don't see why you can't put a sculpt workout after a circuit workout. I say give it a try for two weeks and see how you feel.

It depends on the circuit. I think Cathe's circuit workouts are pretty darn no-nonsense with the weight work and you should take a day off weights the next day. Some of the more recent Firm circuit workouts are light and fast with the weight work and just seem more like a continuation of the cardio portions.

When in doubt, you can always do an all cardio day or a yoga/stretch day.

A rotation I've done to include circuits or AWT is:

Day 1: Serious weights - total body

Day 2: Cardio

Day 3: Circuit or AWT

Day 4: Cardio

Day 5: Upper body weights

Day 6: Lower body and Abs

Day 7: Cardio

I don't plan rest days, they just seem to impose themselves upon me (life gets in the way). I just pick up from where I left off. Sometimes it will be 10 days before a rest day, sometimes as little as 3. So maybe you would need to tweak this if you had to have every 7th day a rest day.
