what to do (hair to light)

So I went to get my hair higlighted, cut and style yesterday. My stylist wasnt available so I scheduled with another stylist that was recomended by my stylist (no big deal) I'm pretty simple gal and get low maintaince highlights as close to my hair as posible. Stylist will keep your profile on file. So I went in and I told him to do the same thing that I didnt want anything different, simple right? When he was done with my highlights and he wash my hair and we went back to the station I notice with my hair being wet that my highlights looked very light. But because I hate to be rude to people I just kept my mouth shut and and waited till he style my hair and maybe I would feel different. Dont give me wrong the highlights are beautiful but its not me and plus I don't have the money to go back in 3-4 weeks and pay another $180 to get my roots retouch!!! I'm usually able to go back every 10-12 weeks just so that I could save money for my hair!!! Anyways once he was done, I think he new he had screwed up and said something along the lines I did what you had in your profile but decided to add a few lighter highlights for summer, I don't care about summer, winter, fall, I simply wanted the same thing nothing different. I feel that I should call them back to have ths corrected but I also feel bad I don't want him to think I'm being a snob and I certainly hate to be a complainer. It even bothers me more because lately I've been hating spending sooo much money on my hair!!! Should I call back or should I just wait 4-5 weeks and just go back to my original stylist and have her go back to what I had ask for?

100% go back. It sounds like you were clear that you wanted what you always get. I've gone back before to have my hair 'fixed' without an issue (more than once in the last 20 years). I have a great relationship with the stylist I see currently and I've seen her 'fix' other women's hair without issue. It's all about the customer service and getting what you paid for (which was a lot!). So go for it. I know it can leave you feeling a bit uneasy but just know that you can be kind, clear and diplomatically insistent - all at the same time. Good Luck. Let us know if you go back. Happy Easter.

This has happened to me and like you I tend to suck it up..But, i was really upset because it is a lot of cash so I called and spoke to the stylist, they squeezed me in when I was able to come and were very happy to do it for me. She told me that she prefers that we say something and they can fix it then go home unhappy and maybenever come back..
so definately go get it fixed!:)

You definately need to go back. I'm a hair stylist and would want to know if client wasnt' happy. If he took it upon himself to make it lighter without consulting you then it was his screw up and he should fix it no charge to you. Is the problem that the hightlights are too light in shade or was it done to heavy or both. if its to heavy you can have low lights put in, which is a weave of your base color put back though, that way youll still have your highlights but just fewer of them. If the amounts ok but too light in shade then it can be toned to darken it up a bit. Either way, it was his screw up and he should make it right, especially for the money you spent.

Yep, go back. They aren't going to think anything bad about you going back until you are happy. To pay that much $$ you deserve to get what you want.

Go back, you have every right at that price to get what you asked for. He totally messed up and picked up the wrong bottle. Summer my butt.

Call and have it fixed (on their dime).

I once went to a new hairdresser when mine moved (same salon). She cut my hair too short AND colored it too dark (supposedly following the guidelines from my regular woman, but no way did that happen). She also asked, as one of her first "chit-chat" questions "so, are you married, or what?" (No, she wasn't trying to hit on me, just bad at small talk).

I didn't say anything at the time, because I thought it might look better after washing. But the next day, I still felt 10 years older and depressed, so I called the salon. One of the managers said she'd redo it and got me in between other appointments. No charge to me (she wouldn't even accept a tip).

Go back. You are not happy. Go back and make them correct it. I have been getting the same hi/lo lites for about a year now every few months. One time for whatever reason it just didn't take the same way it had and I didn't like how it looked so I called and made an appointment. I was actually willing to pay for the touch up but my stylist didn't charge me a dime and, IIRC she wouldn't even take a a tip from me for her time. If they are smart they want you to be happy so you keep coming back. If you are not a constant complainer (which you obviously are not!) then they should be more then happy to fix the problem for you.

Hi!
The highlighs are to light and the amount or thickness of the highlights are ok, I still want to be able to see some highlights but in a more richer tone. Now my question to you, by adding a toner or a glaze, will I get what I wanted originally or is thr a posibility where it might come out to dark? Thank you!!

If the glaze is left on too long, it may turn your hair darker than you'd like. That was my experience after getting highlights too light from a substitute colorist. (same as your situation). BTW, the 'fix' from the glaze was way WORSE than the too light highlights. My suggestion would be to ask for "low lights", highlighting your hair w/ darker/richer color to tone down the lighter strands.
HTH.

I have gone back to my hairdresser before and had her fix my hair. If your salon is anything like mine, it is a pricey endeavor and if you are not happy, you should be for what you paid. It is completely ok to say that this is much lighter than I usually get, please fix this and give me some low lights. AND you should not have to pay one extra dime. We don't have to be mean about this, it is just matter of fact business.

Good! That makes me so mad that he just took it upon himself to give you some lighter highlites for summer. He should not have done that!!! I've had it happen to me too. Went in for some highlites and came out bleached blonde. DH hates blonde hair on me, so I ended up getting it fixed too, but I didn't say anything at first either.
