What new w/o are you waiting on?

I am having a little honeymoon with kettlebells right now. The first DVD I got was Lauren Brooks' "Ultimate Body Sculpt and Conditioning with Kettlebells". I wrote a review of it, which you can check out here. I also got everything from "Art of Strength", which I ALSO really like. (Only one review so far, and it's here). The two newer ones, "Newport" and "Firepower", are also great, very intense.

I've read good things about "The Kettlebell Way", too, but I've heard that it's similar to the Art of Strength, and I'm trying to find out if it's worth getting those, too.

The only one I definitely DIDN'T like was "The Kettlebell Goddess Workout". I'm sure it's full of good exercises, but there's no music, very little cueing, and all the women look unhappy and kind of grim. I couldn't stick with it.

Thanks!!! Been pondering KBs:p

I am waiting on ChaLean Extreme & STS, but I just got 5 Cathe DVDs today in the mail.... so wait no longer on these: All of BodyBlast (Timesaver; Step, Jump & Pump + Step Blast; Supersets & Push Pull; Kick, Punch and Crunch & Legs and Glutes) plus Drill Max! Woohooo!

I am completely on the same page as Kathryn. I would like to read more about Ilaria's workouts, I have pre-ordered Kelly's new 2 because the woman's dynamism is incredible and her workouts are anything but "been-there-done-that." I like the idea of Chalene's new series, except the first DVD: I absolutely do not want to go into her kitchen with her, hubby and kids! No thanks.

I would add to this list Amy Bento's Drop Sets in the dynamic series line up. I do drop sets on my own here all the time and I'm interested to see her take on it. She has moves that are very different to Cathe.

I was waiting on Tracey's DVDs but eventually I cancelled my pre-orders. I got so tired of the hyped promises but disappointing results of her workouts. They just don't deliver and I find her voice so grating. Voice matters.

So, plenty to look forward to and as I wait I am starting a new journey into pilates because my orthopedist and physical therapist have just informed me that even after working out assiduously with Cathe, I have muscle imbalances, lack core strength and can't balance for s**t!

Clare

Besides STS, I've preordered Kelly Coffey-Meyer's new ones and The Kettlebell Way, Vol. 2. I'm drooling over Chalene Extreme and thinking seriously about ordering Amy Bento's ASC #3.

For those of you doing KB w/o what are your favs? Which ones are good for those new to KBs?
A good beginner's workout would be Sarah Lurie's Iron Core 1 (especially since it's $14.95 at Target, or even less if you can find it on sale, which some people have recently). The GoFit kettlebells come with a tutorial from her (not the same as the workout).

"The Kettlebell Way to The Perfect Body" is a remake of Anthony Diluglio's "Providence" (The differences in a couple of exercises aren't significant) that also contains a tutorial section. That would be an excellent DVD to add to a starting collection. www.artofstrength.com used to have it at a sale price ($39.95/9 instead of $49.95---yes, most KB DVD's are expensive!).

I also canceled the rest of my Tracey preorder (I'd ordered them all, and after Strike Zone turned out the way it did, and I saw the previews of the 'not-very-much' medball workout, I decided I didn't want it or the step workout). (Though I do think her voice has gotten better in her more recent workouts).

Clare, let me guess: your front muscles (chest, anterior delt) are stronger than your back muscles? I can easily see that happen when using many of Cathe's workouts as-is (especially earlier ones, but still in some more recent ones). I almost always omit anterior delt work in her workouts, do posterior work instead (if the workout doesn't include it--sometimes I'll do OH presses instead of front delt work), and in some workouts where the chest/back ratio is way off, I do fewer chest sets and more back. Another thing to watch for is even when she does about equal sets, she goes light on back work vs. chest (ie: 25# for chest presses vs. 12# for lat rows--what's up with that?).

That's funny because my DH will ONLY do Tracey videos with me because he finds her voice so non-annoying. You must have to have really thick skin to put yourself out there like these video instructors do. If it was me and I read some of the comments about myself that people make about Tracey and other instructors, I would lock myself in the bathroom and cry for hours - annoying voice, grating personality, geez....

I totally agree with you Liann! It is a lot harder to teach aerobics that it looks. I think Tracey does a great Job. It takes a lot of hard work and planning to do what they love to do. I teach and bad comments go right to pit of your stomach and yes they do make you cry! (well I do anyway, kinda)

I guess this is another example of not everything is for everybody.

I like Tracey's workouts as well. I even like Strikezone (A LOT) which didn't get very good reviews from some other "video junkies." I felt it was a really good workout and liked the banter between the group. I also really like Walking Strong, though I seem to get a migraine after doing it (dehydration?):(.

Now, the workouts I don't like are some of Amy Bento's. I REALLY want to like them because she seems like a genuinely nice person. I have all of her dvd's but only do a few. I find the weight work a little too different and the hi/lo leaves me scratching my head. I do really like her ITR and Rumble. I am going to REALLY try to not order all of her new workouts because some just don't seem like they will click with me. Can you say addicted anyone:rolleyes:?!

Ah, Catherine, take the plunge (drink the Kool Aid? ;))!! They are SOOO much fun!!

I'm waiting on Tracey's two new ones, The KB Way vol. 2, and AOS Santa Monica.

Of course, I'm MOST excited about STS coming out in December! :D

Hey Clare! Have you been doing the kettlebells a bit more? I've found that they've really helped make my core much stronger, and my balance much better. Hopefully you'll get the same results from them or from starting up pilates! :)

I started with Amy's Rumble which I like and moved on to others, I just bought a few more on sale, but I'm finding I'm not clicking with her style in some of these. And I too, really want to like these more.

I just received a kickbox by Janet Safil (something like that). And of course looking at this thread will inevitably lead to more purchases!

I don't have to whip out my credit card, because I've memorized the number! It sure does make impulse buying soooo much easier.

I've never done Kelly Coffey Myer dvds, but these 2 new ones look good, I might go ahead and preorder. And I'm interested in what the Art of Strength is about.

Hi,

I am waiting on Tracey's SSS and HLMB. I an also waiting to hear when Amy Bento's Powerbody kettlebell 3 in 1 workout will be released. i e-mailed to Amy about this workout -- below is her reply to me.

Hi Regina,
I have been told to direct questions about the Power Body 3 in1 kettlebell workout to the following email address:

I still can not figure out for the life of me why I ordered HLMB. I can not do Hi-Lo to save my life  I look like Elaine from Seinfeld trying to dance

Kathryn:

Stronger anterior and weaker posterior muscles yes, but for me it's in the lower body that this matters as it has lead to patellofemoral syndrome, i.e., runner's knee. Generally speaking though, I agree with you. Cathe seems to have a particular fondness for chest muscular development and it is not balanced out by an equally assiduous loading up of the back muscles. I usually load my barbell for barbell rows way more heavily than she does, and for deadlifts also. I guess the important thing here is to do what works for us.

To all the others who criticized my critique of Tracey: as a poster just said, not every instructor is for everyone. I pre-ordered with Tracey through 3 series and finally had to give up the ghost because FOR ME she does not deliver and her voice is irritating. I think I gave her more than a fair trial and a fair bit of money. My critique stands. And Tracey can handle criticism. It's a requirement for anybody who "puts themselves out there." I once had a student write on my teaching evaluations that he "hated my socks." Whatever. You learn to deal.

Hey Leanne!!

Hey Clare! Have you been doing the kettlebells a bit more? I've found that they've really helped make my core much stronger, and my balance much better. Hopefully you'll get the same results from them or from starting up pilates! :)

Hi Leanne:

I haven't been able to start with the kettlebells yet. I got the Beth and Anthony DVD and got a couple of kettlebells at Dunhams sports --the best prices-- but I got injured this Summer on my annual hiking/backpacking vacation with runner's/hiker's knee, and I am currently having a month's physical therapy to deal with this. It is going well, but I am not ready to do much weighted work yet. I noticed this for myself when I repeatedly try doing body weight only lunges at home. Lunges make my knee hurt. So, while I am jonesing to get back to my regular routines and try kettlebelling, I am practicing the utmost in patience, which anyone who knows me can tell you is a quality I lack, deplorably. Until this month of PT is over, I am not risking anything. I am doing a ton of PT exercises --Judi from these boards was kind enough to send me a whole stack of exercises and Nancy generously sent me a Fitness Fix DVD to help with rehab also-- thorough core work and traditional weight training in upper body only until I get the all-clear to resume cardio, squats, etc. And then, ketlebells here I come!

Seriously, my mind is ready, I need something new, but I'm just waiting for my body to catch up!

Stay well Leanne and thanks for asking about me! I'll post you a special report after my first kettlebell workout ... watch this space!

No one criticized you??? I only said I could never put myself in the position to have to deal with that kind of criticism. I wasn't criticizing you for being critical, just saying I couldn't deal with it. I would have told you flat out if I had a problem with what you said. ;) I am not passive aggressive! :)

I liked Tracey's Strike Zone, Circuit Zone and Core Blast, and she doesn't annoy me at all. But I tried these workouts with some friends and one of them found her SOOOOO annoying.

My BF doesn't mind Tony on P90X, but one of the exercisers/P90X grads who shows up in some of the workouts makes him go NUTS. He HATES her. So we can't do those workouts any more!:p

Personally, I don't usually register any personal feelings as long as the workout is kicking booty. But I know that some instructors just rub some people the wrong way.

I didn't mind Amy Bento, but her workouts just didn't work for me. I wanted to like them. But I HATED them. And I had to sell them on Amazon...oh well. I've got plenty of other stuff to look forward to! STS, plus, now I'm a little curious about ChaLEAN extreme, too. But for now, my kettlebells are keeping me busy!
