I would like to get a new ipod/mp3 player. I have an older sony one but I'm ready for an upgrade.:D

What kind does everyone use?

I would like to find one that I can download music, make playlists, put books or workouts or videos on it if I like.

It has be user friendly, and not super expensive.

I was looking at 8g ipod nano and the 16g sony walkman both are the same price.

Suggestions pretty please.

Thank you,
Jenn

I have an iPod Touch. It's a little bigger, about the size of the iPhone, but I like it. It's 4GB I think but they also have an 8. I also have an iPod Shuffle that I used prior. It is ok but sometimes it's aggravating as far as changing songs.

I have an 8GB iPod Nano and I love it. I've had it for over 2 years and it's been great for my CC workouts. Vrinda has discussed the different mp3 options in several threads -- I would do a search and look for her posts. She's done her homework! ;)

I have an iPhone and a shuffle. My son has a nano. If I was buying one for exercising, I would get a nano. iPhone is unnecessarily big and shuffle isn't as convenient for controlling playlists.

I have a 1st generation 40gb iPod and the tiny shuffle. DH has a nano, DS has a 2nd generation 120gb, DD has 1st generation 20gb & tiny shuffle:confused: iPods and iTunes are very user friendly but I'm sure there are many other players that are as well.

I just bought a 16gb iPod touch for DD at Amazon. They have a great price, free shipping and no tax. I'm hoping to get the 32gb iPod touch to replace my older one which freezes up me ocassionally.

You could search the internet for reviews.....try www.cnet.com

Jenn if you want video, here are my recommendations:

a. Apple - iPod Nano or Touch - Nano has the edge for working out with being lighter and smaller, Touch is an exquisite picece and not really all that cumbersome to workout with. Nano goes up to 16 GB and Touch goes to 32 GB in capacity.

b. Samsung P2 - Touch meets iPod. This player is in between the nano and touch in size and weight and best of all has built in bluetooth. It has a touch sensitive screen but it is not as responsive and precise to use the touch interface as Appli's Touch. You can get them at fairly discounted prices. Available in 4,8 and 16 GB

c. Creative Zen - compact and cost effective player with the added advantage od SD card support. Built in FM. Very nifty. My sis and nephew use this player. Capacity options from 4 GB to 32 GB (excluding the SD card)

d. Sansa Fuze - Alternative to the Creative Zen. Similar feature set (SD card support with is better integrated into the menus) as the Creative Zen.

The nice thing about players with SD card support is that you can carry around more content than can fit on your compct little player by taking along Sd cards which are compact too.

e. Sony's newest models with built in bluetooth. I think they come in 8 and 16 GB options. Beautiful screen and great sound. Great battery life.

I have a Nano, but if I were to buy today, I'd pick a compact model that has built in blue tooth since I hate wires while working out. I have wireless sport headphones from jaybird gear, but I need a bluetooth adapter to use it with my ipod (which is a very tiny adapter so it isnt really such a big deal).

The nicest things about Apple models are:
a. iTunes is so easy to use. Tech help is most accessible on forums and Apple tech help is pretty good too.
b. Largest variety of accessories
c. Best finish/sleekness than any other model

The competing models in my list all perform just as well on sound in my opinion.

Let us know what you get.

Thank you for your responses.

I was checking out the best buy website and saw the Samsung P2 touch. It looks very nice and had great customer reviews.

I also like the ipod nano because of itunes.

With the apples is it hard to download workouts from other sites? (Tracey's walking strong, CC's or Itreads). I have never used any of these workouts but would be interested in trying them if they are easy to download.

So if you had to choose between the ipod and the samsung do you have a preference.?

Jenn

I had no trouble with downloads from CC with iPods. I haven't used Tracy's walking strong or iTreads but I am positive that there would not be any problem downloading them either.

Jenn,

Here is my recommendation:

Pick Nano if:
a. You want accessories (speaker dock, car accessories, etc)
b. You like products that are technically easier

Pick Samsung if:
a. You want a larger screen for video
b. Wireless headphones are high on your list of priorities
c. You like the fancy-shmansiness of touch screen navigation (I LURVE it).

Samsung isnt tough to use at all, but Apple has made iPod extremely intuitive. There is also an abundance of help available because the model is ubiquitous.

Between the two, if the advantages of the Samsung dont seem like they will be important pick the Nano.

Thank you for your responses.

Jenn,

All audio content (music, itrain, CC, audiobooks) will be just as easy to load on both nano and p2.

Some video (including Tracey's Walking Strong), downloads are available as ipod format (MPEG4 H.264) and these will need converting before they can be transferred to the P2.

You can rip your DVDs to either iPod and Samsung p2 format using a software like CloneDVDMobile from Slysoft very easily. (not free)

There is free software like Videora that will rip DVDs to iPod format.
