What is your diet lifesyle?

Now this is how I eat:

No soy: impairs thyroid function
No corn: always makes me plump!
No trans fats: bad for your cholesterol.
No canola oil: Omega 6 based oils make me gain.
The only nut I really eat is walnuts, they are full of omega 3 fatty acids.
I only eat organic dairy. The lipid profile is different.

I eat lots of vegetables, fruits, healthy fats including organic coconut oil,
I time my meals with a carby breakfast (small) before my cardio, then a big meal with vegetables/protein. Dinner is a lower fat, low carb meal of vegetables.

I was able to lose 3 pounds in January (this month.) following this diet. I do still have some organic ice cream, occasionally a cookie. I've been playing with adding a lot more vegetables because of family members presenting with sclerosis issues (MS). I watched that video with Dr. Terry Wahl, its a Ted Talk. She recommended a diet more rich in plant food.

Great post...

This is how I eat too, your list mostly mirrors mine (I do sometimes incorporate omega 6's) including the coconut oil and ice cream :p. I stay away from anything that is genetically modified also, and most things that come in cans. If I do bake something with flour, the flour has to be non-gmo (organic). I use coconut oil in baking and olive oil for sauteing but always on lower heat so not to alter the structure of the oil. If I use butter, its from organic grass fed cows. Extremes for me have never worked (like never eating chocolate or meat) but nutrient timing does, and I don't believe that adage of calories are all equal, like calories in calories out. You go girl!

Gosh, thanks! :D

I completely agree about the organic butter. It tastes so different. I have switched to almost all coconut oil for cooking, it helps me stay warm in cold weather.

We've gone grain-free in our house and it has made a huge difference in every way. It was easy, we replaced processed carbs with whole fruits and veggies. I guess we are Paleo/Primal but I never started following these plans. We do eat a small amount of dairy(yogurt cheese) which is questionable with Paleo/Primal. I will allow myself oatmeal (non paleo food) if I feel the need, but haven't really wanted any. I've had oatmeal once in 10 months.
Anyway, I just knew processed carbs was the devil in my diet, I was addicted to them.

DH and I have more energy, and are leaner & fitter at 49 years old than we were in our 20's. Best part is, we feel like we're 20 years old!

Stephanie, that's funny about the grocery cashier. We get a lot of questions from the cashier when DH and I check out. It's sad, we are like a fly in the milk...most people have boxes and food in fancy wrappers, but our basket looks like we just went through a farm field.
I guess this wouldn't happen if we shopped whole foods store (whole pay-check store).

So true about the produce! That's the main difference between our healthy weight family and the overweight families in our neighborhood. Our cart isn't filled with packaged food.

Does any else think the produce crispers on the fridge are too small? Half of my fridge is produce! And it's only me and a 6 year-old here (husband deployed).

This year, my new year's resolution was to try new fruits and veggies (and to retry things I didn't like in the past). Who knew raw beets (with balsmic vinegar and olive oil) were so yummy? Spahetti squash, yum! Fun resolution!!!

YES! The fridge I bought last year solved that problem and I've been very happy. Also, please thank your husband for his service. My son is heading off to the Strait of Hormuz for 9 months :( .

YES! I use plastic storage bins as drawers on my other refrigerator shelves. Being vegan, my entire fridge is produce. I need a fridge of ONLY crisper drawers!

I never thought of this! Does it work as well as the air controlled drawers?
I have 2 refrigerators on my main floor. One frig is used for my dog's food:p (they are fed raw), so I actually have access to 4 veggie drawers. The dog's frig is for thawing the frozen meat- the bulk of their food in in freezers in the basement.

It works great! If I have delicate green leafys in the bins I will lay a damp paper towel over the top, but that's it.

Wendy,

Do you eat the WW Smart Ones & other products sold in grocery stores? I find some of the entree's very yummy :p. Quick meal when you are pressed for time. The bagels are good too, only 150 cal. I have yet to try the desserts, but they look tasty :p

I do! My diet is not 100% clean and so be it. That's fine with me. I just do the best that *I* can personally do and seems to be working out just fine for me. I buy Smart Ones for when I am pressed for time. I by WW bread every week bc I love my deli turkey breast sandwiches! I've had WW bagels but I often use Thomas' bagel thins instead. I eat a bagel or toast with natural p/b for breakfast every morning. YUM! I've had some of the WW desserts such as the brownies and the cookies and it's all good. I buy the WW or skinny cow icecream pops. I have something sweet every day and don't feel bad about it. Along with that though I cook a lot now so I have lots of healthy home cooked dinners using fresh clean ingredients and in turn, many of my lunches are the yummy leftovers so I think I have a pretty nice balance going on. I could personally never eat as clean as a lot of Cathletes do. I admire them for the way they eat but it's not for me. I eat a little bit of everything in moderate quantities...except for fruit. Fruit is clean and yummy and FREE on WW and my body loves it! I can eat 6 pieces of fruit a day and still lose weight! It's awesome! :D Sorry if I rambled....:p

I think that's the beauty of WW. You can make it work for you and your lifestyle. I don't have a sweet tooth, but I have a "cheese tooth", so I work that in. As long as I am honest about tracking and portion sizes, I am successful. :)

Yes! You are exactly right and it's why I love WW (and cheese!;)) too! :)

I mainly eat fruit, veggies, whole grains, eggs, some dairy (Greek yogurt, cheese and milk), chicken and fish (mainly salmon). I eat red meat and pasta once or twice a month at the most. I try to buy organic as much as possible. I allow myself one cheat meal a week and have a small piece of dark chocolate a day. I only drink green tea and water. I gave up soda a long time ago and use salt and sugar sparingly. I don't even own a salt shaker.

I have never been on any program or have counted calories. The only diet I ever did was the Scarsdale diet in high school in the 70's. I was on it for a week, hardly ate anything and ended up with the flu after a week.

Wow, y'all are making my head spin! ;)

I have never followed any particular diet or WOE in my life, and I've also never had a weight problem.

I eat whatever I want, just small portions of it.

This is me. Sort of. I have followed diets, and have had a major weight problems throughout my life. My problem, I discovered, was not necessarily what I was eating, but my attitude towards food. Once I got my psyche under control, and realized that I, like any other addict, would always struggle with food, I lost weight.

The way I eat now is influenced by many ways of life/diets. I don't cook meat at home anymore, but I have it if someone else makes it. I eat a big ol' cheeseburger now and then. There are certain recipes where I refuse to use whole wheat pasta. I eat lots and lots and lots of fruit, veggies, beans, and cheese. I cook six nights a week and plan my meals. I eat almost nothing processed on a regular basis, but I'll never say never about things like Oreos, Cheetos, and chips :)

Basically, I love food! I can probably count on one hand the foods I don't like. So, I eat mindfully, trying to avoid things that I know have no nutritional value, but I still eat those now and then, too. I lost 60 pounds eating this way, and I'll continue to do so... probably tweaking things here and there as I learn what makes me feel the best (body and soul).
