WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO DROP A SIZE?

Wow - this thread has been very helpful. I am also 5'5" and hover between 115 and 118. It is amazing what a difference 3 pounds can do to a small frame. I can hit 114 if I workout to Cathe in the morning and do interval running on the treadmill at lunchtime - but you know, as much as I want to lose those three, at some point you have to say to yourself, enough is enough. In theory, one workout a day (especially if it is Cathe) plus a healthy diet should be sufficient.

Having said that though, I think I will add in a couple of days of walking during lunch to see if it gets me to where I want to be without the wear and tear on my knees.

Well, I know what I can lose safely, cause I have already done it, just trying to get within a few lbs of that old goal.... as long as I know I am ok and as long as she knows she is ok, thats what matters... everyone one else can do as they please:7

Reading all these posts about height, weight and size...something does not compute. I am 5'0", 123 lbs and wear a size 4 or 6...mostly 4. I swim in 8's.

I'm the same as you Candi. I'm also 5', but I weigh 127 right now as I've gained a few pounds. I also wear a 4/6 and an 8 in a bathing suit. Everyone is built differently with different bone structure. It is amazing to me how I can weigh up to 10 pounds more than some of the people here have posted, be shorter, and still wear the same size. And believe me when I say that I am not thin and I have a lot of fat to lose. I would think if you saw me, you would think I look like I'm bigger than I am as I've lost a lot of muscle tone over the past couple of years, yet I wear the same size as everyone else.

candi, I think it has to do with measurements too, me I am barely a B-cup, just found out how to measure myself right lol... I weigh 107 right now, and I am 5'2", I really think some women are bigger on top than others, plus that even though the waist and hips fit into a 4 or 6 our legs maybe be thinner or thicker, alot goes into it how we carry that weight..... thats my 2 cents:7 ....

Have to take into account the new sizes clothes manufactors are doing to please women.........I know right now my hips are 36 inches, and I am trying like mad to get them back to 34 1/2 or 34, or smaller :7

another 2 cents:p ... Rhonda :p

You are so right Rhonda. I think I'm probably an hourglass figure as I'm a D-cup which I hate with 37" hips. I used to be a barely B-cup also until I stopped teaching aerobics in my late 20s and gained 10-15 pounds. I would love to be back in a B-cup, or even an A-cup, as I don't like being big, and back to my 35 inch hips. Since my weight is distrubuted all over my body and not in one place, that is probably why I wear the same size as everyone else in pants. My top size varies depending on the manufacturer, but I do wear a lot of larges. I miss so much being able to wear a small in tops as I believe a smaller person looks cuter in tops than a person my size.

I totally agree Rhonda. I wish I could get the great success that you have gotten with your workout and diet program. Everybody has to do what works for them, and I guess that is what I was trying to say.

I used to feel really inadequate on this board because there was no way I could get in the caliber of workouts that others were doing. I just didn't have the time. So then I tried to do 2 workouts a day; one in the am and one at lunch. For me I finally got the results I wanted, but I was exhausted all the time and my knee was really sore. Unfortunately, it just wasn't something I could keep up. I really do admire those that can do it though. I didn't mean to sound like I was criticizing anybody.

I haven't read the other posts but your height and weight does sound fine. I am the same height and weight as you and I wear a size 4. I have more of a medium build, I am not petite or smalled boned but I hvae a small frame. Does that make sense? Anyhow to get a better idea if you could lose 5 pds you may want to get your body fat checked. Also, do you see any extra fat on your body? You certainly don't NEED to lose 5 lbs but if you have 5 lbs extra and wanted to I would recommend a very clean diet. NO sweets, no white bread or rice or any of that stuff. Salads and protein, beans etc. Try that for 3-4 weeks and that extra 5 will be gone, but you have to be disciplined. Good luck!!

Why would you rather be a 4 than a 6? Because there are more 4's left over when clothing goes on sale? Other than that, I can't think what difference it makes.

I agree!
I also agree with posters who say that you are at a good weight already, and possibly just need to add some muscle tone.

THANK YOU EVERY ONE.MAYBE I AM JUST INTO NUMBERS.I SHOULD GO BY HOW I FEEL.MY BODY %IS GOOD WHEN I HAD IT CHECKED.I WASNT SURE WHAT A GOOD WEIGHT WAS FOR ME,BUT THANK YOU FOR SHARING WITH ME.I NEEDED TO KNOW IT WAS OK TO BE AT 115.

Just a thought on the height/pound/size topic. I am very short waisted and thus can't hold as much weight as say someone longer waisted. I think, IMHO, people with long torsos can weigh more, there is just more body to distribute the pounds on. Just a thought.

I just got home from the store where I bought the newest issue of Oxygen. There just happens to be a couple of pages where they are showing women with their heights and weights. There are several that are the same height at 5'5" with very very different weights ranging from 115 up to 130. They all look wonderful. While the lady who weighed 115 pounds looked wonderful, I have to say that the ladies who weighed 130 pounds looked better to me as they had more muscle definition. But the point here is that weight really doesn't go by height at all, but more what you are looking for in yourself. As much as I would like to lose 10 pounds, I honestly don't care what I weigh as long I can wear my clothes comfortably and look and feel good.

Marykay.... I totally agree with you, if you want to be a 4 or a 2 and lose some extra weight, you go girl, to those who say why, your fine the way you are...... you already know that, but the point is, is you want TOO lol.... just like I want too.... nothing wrong with a size 6, but I want to be a size 4 or 2, thats me:7 ... if they are happy with where they are great for them:7 .... Rhonda

great advice I never forgot . . . .
I'm 44 now and lugging around more extra pounds than I care to admit, but 20 yrs. ago, if I weighed over 100# it ruined my day. (I'm 5'2). Of course, that was too thin, I know now. One day when trying on pants in a dept. store, the size I usually wore looked and felt too tight. The salesclerk suggested I go up a size and I indignantly said, "NEVER!". She smiled and said, "nobody can see the size tag inside your pants, but every can see when they don't fit properly. Don't get hung up on numbers." Pretty smart, right?
Valerie :)

I am 5'1 3/4 and I weigh anywhere from 127-130. I currently wear a 4 to 6 and I would love to get back down to 120. When I weight 120 I am a size 2 and I feel better. I just turned 40 this year.

Rhonda-
If Marykay is saying she wants less body fat, or more muscle I can understand that. Many of us want the same thing. All she is communicating to us is that she wants to be a smaller dress size, which, in and of itself, doesn't make much sense to me. Maybe she can explain it further.

Why do you want to wear a size 4? Do you tell everyone your size? Forget about the numbers and go count your blessings!
