What happened to the gas prices?

They were $1.99 last Tuesday and today they were $2.45!!! Where did that come from? Are the prices doing wierd things by you too?

Nan

Yep, same here, Nan. DH and I figured that it was because of spring break and impending summer vacations. UGH!

Wow! Ours just went from 1.99 to 2.29...so I won't complain too much! But I had pretty much gotten used to 1.79 again...

Like last year, just in time for summer.

Really, several months back I heard on the news that the American muscle car (i.e., gas hog) is coming back. I just thought 'Are people retarded? Did we learn anything from last summer. Like that WE the people have absolutely no control over the price of gas so maybe it's time to wean ourselves off the stuff...'

The terrorists don't get it, either. Forget about flying planes into our buildings. If you want to destroy our economy just sit back with a beer and watch. We'll do it to ourselves because we, as a nation, just don't learn.

Whoa! I'll shut up about the jump from $1.81 to $1.91 although a dime overnight does make you wonder what is going on.

Please take a moment to read this information from Special Olympics:

The muscle cars you are referring to get far more gas mileage than their predecessors. A 2010 Camaro will get about the same a little Mazda 6. Not great, but not exactly gas hog either. Some people get excited about cool cars, other get excited about Coach bags. To each his or her own.

Speaking of the new Camaro...that car makes me drool! Motor Trend has rated it and let me tell you...it spanked the Mustang and the Challenger! :)
Eye candy indeed...

And I don't think we are even on Summer Formula gas yet. I think that starts in June or the last week of May. Just wait til that happens!

It's nice to see fuel efficiency and coolness merge. I think there's a market for that....for those of us who don't want to be seen (or killed and buried) in one of these

Thank you for pointing that out Nancy - as the proud sister who had a mentally retarded brother - he was the most special person.

You know how little kids don't really understand how to be "tainted" into thinking bad things? Well that is what I love about those who never mentally develop into adulthood. They are so sweet and innocent. They know only positive and not negative.

But aside from that - not wanting to take over this thread - we here in CA have been over $2 for quite a while, but today at Costco I paid $2.279. I didn't think that was too bad since, as mentioned already, it is almost Memorial Day !

I will take even $ 2.50 over the $ 4.00+ we paid not that long ago ! ;)

Summer's coming

Yup - the oil companies are gearing up for summer. Hear the giant sucking sound - money coming out of our wallets!

That's quite the jump Nan. Here in upstate NY we have had a very gradual climb. We're at $2.25 now, still better than the $4 they were. Hoping no more climbing though!

Well, on the upside, slightly climbing gas prices indicate strength in the US Dollar and a slightly improving economy. Economic downturn usually follows a severe drop in gas prices. Also, gas being a little more expensive encourages auto companies to produce more efficient vehicles, encourages public transportation projects, etc. Sucks for people in areas where public transportation is either dangerous or nonexistent, though.
