teehee depending on who is in the next lane, I could be thinking about not getting hit in the head or kicked in the stomach!
Sometimes I like to concentrate on my stroke and feeling the muscles work. I know exactly how many strokes it takes me to get from one end to the other, depending on what equipment I'm using at the time. If I'm really tired though, it will be one or two more, and if I'm feeling very energetic, one or two less. but normally it's always the same.
Usually I don't care about swimming better than anyone else, since it's almost always the same people every day. BUT sometimes a new person comes in and will make a big splash and take off at the same time (another pet peeve) swim fast for one or two lengths and then gasp for breath while I just keep going and going and going. I always know who is going to do this before they even get in the pool, even if I've never seen them before.
