What do you think of bosu?

I'm trying to decide if a bosu should be on my list of exercise equipment I'd like to have.
If you have one, how do you like it?
What workouts do you do with it?
How intense is it?

Al, I LOVE my bosu. It's wonderful. I have several bosu specific workouts (some made by the company that makes the piece). There are others that use it, ie Awesome Strength with Mindy Mylrea. Then there are some that I modify to use the bosu---basically easier step workouts like Step It Strong with Keli Roberts. Not easier in intensity, but less dancy.

I feel that it works my legs harder than a step, and the core is worked a lot more too. I recommend it!

Another vote for the bosu ball. I also love mine, I can use it for so many different moves. Mindy's tapes are very good.

Bosu's are really cool fitness gadgets, very versatile. I won't pay $100 for one though. If I could get one for half that, I would!!:)

I DID! I got mine for $50 from a yaya. And she included 3 dvds. :) Look on the swap there and ebay, etc...

I've seen a couple of new Bosus that are smaller than the original (and cost less). They look like they'd be just as effective, but are around 2-3 inches shorter, and look like the base around them isn't as wide. I think they are around $60. Sorry, I can't remember where I saw them, but it was online.

I LOVE my BOSU! It's not a matter of "intensity". It's not designed for that. It's designed for core training and balance work. I love what it does for those two things, and I love the non-impact surface. It's definitely a challenge, but I can't imagine not having mine. I just wish there were more workouts for them, but perhaps one day???

You can find workouts as well as different size BOSU's here:

Fitness Wholesale.com also carries some:

ETA: I've ordered from both places and have never had a problem. Excellent customer service.

It definitely sounds like I should hint for one for my birthday in March.
What would you say is your favorite Bosu workout and why is it?

My personal favorite is Explode which is a BOSU and Body Bar workout led my Mindy Mylrea. She has cardio blasts in there done on or off the BOSU (a background exerciser shows the entire workout off the BOSU) alternating with strength sections. It's a sweat-fest and FUN! Mindy is her chatty high-energy self in this one and says some really funny things. The music is nice too - not too techno and it's very upbeat. I bought mine at Fitness Wholesale.com but it's also available on the Body Bar wesbsite or Mindy's website. The DVD comes with two workouts - Explode and Burn, led by Keli Roberts.

I've been interested in getting one as well. I used one when I had physical therapy because I had balance issues and never really thought about incorporating it into my regular home workouts. Anyhoo, it's on my list of things I might want.

I actually just ordered a Bosu a few days ago. I am really looking forward to getting it now that i've read some of these posts. I also ordered both of Rob Glick's Bosu workouts to go with it. Has anyone tried any of these two? Are they intense/fun/dancey?

TIA

Carol,

CIA has just listed their new DVD workouts for this year and they do have a BOSU workout with Seasun Zieger(sp). There is also another workout on the same DVD with Sharon Twombly (Greg's wife). Of course, the new DVD's are a preorder thing.

Be careful with Rob's cardio Bosu workout. I severley sprained my ankle when doing tick tocks over the Bosu during this workout. Laid me up for seven months. I have a friend (Hi Beth!) who teaches a Bosu class and she says she never does tick tocks over the Bosu because of the potential for catching you foot on the base, exactly as I did.

I sold my Bosu but now I'm sorry I did and I wish I had it back. I think I am over my fear of using it now that I have some tools to modify some of the moves they show. :)
