What do you eat in a day?

Hi, I am new here. I love Cathe's workouts! I just discovered them on fit TV.

This is one question I would like to ask anybody who is in great shape. What do you eat in a typical day? I know everybodys needs are different, but I am just curious about what those people who are in great shape typically eat in a day. I guess I am also looking for new snack & meal ideas.

Thanks!

Same thing babe...I hardly look like Cathe so I shouldn't comment. I think all of us TRY to eat healthy and my motto is try to eat food in its natural state and DON'T clean your plate!

There are some nutrionally saavy people who frequent the forum; hopefully they will be able to give you better guidance.

Have a great day!

I agree with everything acatalina said. I also measure out my portions so I know I'm not eating too much but I do eat about 5 meals throughout the day. I also keep a food journal which has helped me a lot. Once you actually see what you're eating, you can make adjustments and see where you're lacking or eating too much. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables and make sure to eat some protein with every meal so you will feel satisfied.

I eat all day long...small mini meals whenever I'm hungry.
I make sure I eat a protein-good carb-good fat at every meal...at least the protein - carb combo.
Eating clean really is the key to leaning out and I think eating mini meals is also important to keep you fueled if you w/o regularly.

Well, I'm also not in terrific shape, but I'm trying to get back that way! But here is about an average day for me:

Breakfast:

2 packets of Quaker Weight Control oatmeal
with 2 tsp of flax seeds
(380 calories total, 46% fiber)

Lunch:

2 slices whole wheat bread
1 can Progresso vegetable classics soup
(Minestrone, Vegetable Italiano, etc.)
(about 450 calories, around 40-60% fiber, depending on the soup)

Dinner:

At least two servings of vegetables
a small amount of lean meat
(not sure of calories, but I try to eat reasonably)

Usually, if I'm hungry, I eat snacks like baby carrots, apple slices, or Light Multigrain English Muffins (100 calories each, 32% fiber!)

Anyway, just thought I'd chime in. :)

I have been working w/ a nutrionist the past couple of months, and have been eating healthier than ever(all whole foods, the only exception is whey protein, and 5 meals per day. It has really been working for me but to tell you the truth, it is pretty boring food but I feel great and have lost weight. I eat egg whites, skim milk, garbanzo beans, brown rice, sweet potatoes, oatmeal, shredded wheat, cottage cheese, natural peanut butter, whey protein, 1-2 serving of fruit per day and lots and lots of green vegetables - mainly spinach, broccoli & asparagus. That's not everything I eat but it's pretty darn close. I could be eating fish & poultry if I wanted to but I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian. I can have one cheat meal per week as long as I am still getting results. I wouldn't say I'm in great shape, but I'm working on it.

So far in the past two months I have had 3 cheat meals - all of them dairy queen blizzards with reeces & snickers, and I have still gotten results. Maybe they would be better without the blizzards, but I don't want to know : )

Thanks everybody! I eat alot of brown rice & beans fruits & vegies & whole grains. I am looking for more variation in my meals. So keep the meals coming.....anybody else want to share what healthy meals & snacks you eat?

I've been slacking on workouts lately, but I'll share anyway :)

I follow BFL also. Some of my meals:

4 egg whites, 1 whole egg, oatmeal on the side (regular old fashioned)
chicken, bean salad
extra lean turkey meatloaf, mashed potatoes
cottage cheese, apple or berries
chicken, WW pasta, healthy homemade alfredo dressing
protein pancakes
Extra lean ground turkey, lentils (just brown turkey add 1 can of progresso lentil soup)
Extra lean ground turkey, canned corn, can of black beans, can of tomatoes (I only eat one serving, not the whole thing <G>)

Here goes. It is not pretty though}(

Breakfast-Go lean crunch(300 calories)
Snack-trader joes low fat blueberry muffin or some type of protein bar.(250)
Lunch- egg salad or tuna fish on whole wheat bread with lettuce, onions, tomatos and cheese slice with baked lays potato chips.
(600 calories)
Snack-fruit or a slice of toast with peanut butter and not the healthy kind. I sometimes have a bar of chocolate.(200-300)

Dinner-Chicken with veggies and rice or pasta. (700 calories)

Snack-fruit or a bowl of cereal.(300)

I usually end up eating 2500-3000 calories a day.

I need to definitley clean up some of the eating, but I find it pretty hard to do.

First of all, Shelley is clueless. She is in great shape.

I'm in pretty awful shape myself, but do get compliments about looking good "for my age", so here goes: raw vegetables salads with lean protein for dinner 3-4 nights per week, for example, a salad made of lettuce, radicchio, endive, red cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, red peppers, mushrooms, carrots and onions with about 4-6 ounces of tuna or chicken breast. Newman's reduced fat dressings.
