Starting the New Thread for the New Year!
Yesterday, I did Cardio Leg Blast with Burnsets (Chest, Shoulder and Back).
Today, Burnset premix 1 and Ride. Maybe.

Have an awesome day, friends!!

Awesome start to the New Year Jen! :D
How did you like Cardio Leg Blast? I have that one on the calendar for Sunday. Can't wait!

Today I did Supercuts with bonus core 1 and then the 100 rep challenge hip thrust. LOVED the hip thrusts!!!!  I'm totally doing that at least once a week from now on! The core section was a little too crunch heavy for my taste. You guys know how I love the planks for core work ;). I was excited when I saw her go to plank at the end, but then it was only for a teeny bit. LOVED Supercuts. I didn't get super sweaty, but I don't need to get anaerobic every time. ;) Loved the variety, and loved the breakdancer type move she does as well as the sit up/push up challenge. I think I only did 6 cycles to Cathe's 8, though. Something to work up to! Also, I think I'm going to have to get some easier tubing. :p

gotta run...they just handed me a file!

Cardio Leg Blast was fun. I modified weight and step height although you could use a high step in it too. The warmup got my heart rate up and is thorough. Suggest doing her cool down on this.

Don't be afraid Jen! You can always start lighter on the barbell, like 20 lbs instead of 30 or if you're really nervous start with no weight at all the first time you do it. I used a yoga mat folded over on my step to cushion my back while I did it as well as a thick hand towel folded over across my hips to cushion the barbell. Highly recommend doing those two things as it made it much more comfortable. :) She also encourages you to take little rests as needed.

Jen
Make sure you watch form w/the barbell thrusts. Have a mirror handy and observe. I thought I kinda looked a bit silly doing it (why did I not look as fluid as Amanda ) but that's ok cuz' no one was there to see ;). Another thing I noticed was that my neck fatigued before my butt did . I had to constantly fight the urge to lay my head on the step.
Great start to the New Year BTW with your workouts!!!!! You rock woman .

Colleen
LOL on the crunches :D. I found out that the Hard Strikes core section is the same as the Super Cuts one. I actually didn't mind the good ol' fashioned sit-ups. You know how I feel about plank work :D.
Your butt is going to feel it tomorrow I can assure you! My entire glute area was DOMS'ing bbbaaaadddd. I can see why this is the most effective exercise for glutes. I anticipate the tightest tushy ever for the both of us .

Did Burnsets premix 2 that included a crazy core workout. My appetite is already climbing but my app is keeping me in line.
Natty, thanks for the tips on the reps. I'll be thinking of it when I do them. Following 30 day undulating rotation so tomorrow is Ride. Friday will be a double workout of Hard Strikes premix & Low impact Hiit.

Ok am I the only one who has not received XTrain?! I anxiously check the mail every day and nothing. Bummed!

Disc 2 and HiiT 30/30 today. I feel guilty if I don't do cardio on days I lift. Such a cardio freak. I just don't feel like I workout unless I'm sweating buckets. I need to get over that though cuz most times I only have an hour to workout while B is sleeping.

Had a play date today with my friend and her baby who is 2 days older than B.

Tomorrow I'm thinking CF or TTM. Of course Fri is leg day so I don' t want to fry them too bad tomorrow.

Colleen- Breakdancer move? Can't wait to check that out!

Jen- WTG on your workouts!

Natasha- I know you're into lifting. Do you do cardio on days you lift? How many days a week do you do weight workouts? Which muscle groups?

Yesterday w/o was Bi's & Tri's AND 100RC tri's :eek::eek::eek:. Ok, first the bi's & tri's. Awesome little workout. It's like Cathe took the best exercises from STS and combined them. I will be honest, I'm not particularly a fan of alternating muscle groups, but I actually liked it. I was spot on with my weight selections about 95% of the time. It really helps to have Cathe's weights as a guide. That woman is THE CHAMP of tri's & bi's . Ok, now the 100RC. I used 3lbs, however if I had 2lbs, that would have been sufficient (lol there is no way I'm going out to buy 2lbs. That would be just embarrassing ). At one point during my, oh, 70th rep, I could not continue. My muscles were so damn hot I swear you could have fried an egg on them. Cathe actually points out that your muscles should be hot to the touch, and oh were they ever! I was spent and stopped . These challenges are not for the faint of heart .

Marie
Yes, I love lifting and no I rarely if ever do cardio on my lifting days. I prefer to walk if given the chance, even if only for 20-30min every day. In the summer I was walking upwards of 5 miles/day. Trust me, that's enough to keep you in shape . If I could walk & bike forever, I would.
Right now I'm doing 2UB strength + 2LB strength + 2 cardio (my rotation is on last month's check-in). I find the more cardio I do, the hungrier I get, as opposed to the more strength I do. I feel like a bottomless food pit! But of course that's just me, and everyone is different.
Great workout yesterday! You are awesome . I'm in awe that you can jump into those workouts not even 4 months post-partum.

Jen
What I've read on bodybuilding.com is that when you do more strength training, your body will require more protein, so you do get hungrier. Make sure you up your protein to feed those muscles! Egg whites are great with salsa :p. Fit44 mentions this too on OD. I believe she is 50yrs as well and takes tips from the same website.
I'm so jealous you can spin Jen! I would love to buy a bike one day.

Natty-Awesome workout, girlfriend! You rocked it. Her guide helps me too. I think I do that workout sometime next week. At a local restaurant, they make South of the Border Scramble with eggs, sausage, red peppers, green peppers, salsa, cheese and sour cream. Then, toast. You may be able to find a spin bike on Amazon. Sears has everything marked down drastically. Got the pink gloves Cathe uses for $20 today.
Colleen-You should like the core #1 workout on Burn Sets premix or bonus. OMG, I thought I was going to croke. Thought of you though. Break dance??
Marie-The perk of not having Xtrain yet is that you can plan out your own rotation. I pre-bought a series late so by the time everyone got theirs, I knew what to do and to avoid. It was the series they had to reduplicate cause of problems. Cathe insisted that everyone return the old ones for new ones. She paid for it all.

Cardio Leg Blast was tough even with modifications. Burn sets burn. Tonight, I will spin at my pace so I don't feel anxiety trying to keep up with Brenda. Tomorrow, it will be a double workout.
My blog, I chose to stop doing it, cause it wasn't helping land a job. Plus, I stressing not finding new material and feeling burnt out. Either I get a job in MI or I move to Ft. Worth so elimination of stuff is worth it and I get to workout again. Making life simplier and healthier.

Nice job on your workout Natty and thanks for the info. I'm crazy hungry today. Seems like I get that way when I do CF. I'm going to focus on just lifting on my weight days and see how my appetite is. Have fun spinning tonight Jen. Good call on being able to wait and see what rotations everyone likes. Makes me feel better that I'm the last to get mine ;) Hi Colleen. So yup CF today...love that one. Legs tomorrow. I'm thinking core on leg days as well. I haven't been working it lately and I can tell. I need to slowly work up to getting my preBreckin core strength back. Thanks btw for mentioning my post partum workouts. You girls rock! Breastfeeding B in a Macys dressing room while Tony shops for work clothes :) Fun times :)

Hi ladies!

Today I did XTrain Bi's and Tri's and the 100 rep challenge Scarecrows. I really liked the Scarecrow challenge. Actually, I think I should see how sore I am tomorrow before I commit to saying I liked it! lol

I really liked Bi's and tri's. I like alternating between the two. I found I had to go waaaay lighter than Cathe and even then I usually went to muscle failure before all the reps were up. My bi's and tri's are definitely a weak spot! I knew with all my focus on Horizontal Conditioning that they were getting a little weaker, though. I could see myself alternating HoCo with the bi's and tri's discs in the future. Hmmmm...

I also noticed yesterday that my quads and inner thighs got DOMS. I was suprised since I didn't really think XTrain legs was that tough. I think my quads are another weak area I need to train a little more! It's funny because I used to be totally quad dominant with weak glutes and hammies and now I seem to be going the other way! lol

I did decide to put Hard Strikes up for trade since I'm just not excited about the jumping jack bonanza. Otherwise, I'm loving my XTrain set so far!!

Marie- you are doing fantastic with your workouts! I'm expecting a surge in hunger now that I'm back to weightlifting. I actually get much hungrier from weights than I do from cardio. Even intense cardio like CF doesn't spur that deep hunger like STS did for me. Speaking of which, did you notice that same thing when you started breastfeeding? I had never experienced such primal deep hunger than when I first started doing that!

Natty- I totally should have done the 100 rep tricep challenge today but I was so excited to try the scarecrow! I may have to put that on the end of my chest, shoulders back disc on Saturday...

Jen- the breakdance move in Supercuts...LOL It was the only way I could think of to describe it! She has you in sort of a downdog/high plank position to start and then you kick through from side to side. I LOVED that move! I really felt it in my core and especially obliques. I really think Horizontal Conditioning prepared me nicely for that one! :D

Just got a file...gotta run!

Marie you weren't last to get it.

But I just got mine today. I was giddy. I opened them and smelled the case. (is that weird) Yesterday I walked. Today I did the low impact hiit timesaver. I had to do grocery shopping and had a hair appt. so I was short on time. I found it to be pretty tough for an out of shape person such as myself. The core section was tough by the second exercise my abs had cramped up and i couldnt move. So for me, the core section was a spectator sport. But I'm back in and sticking with it. I want to do an official rotation. So I have to make some sort of commitment by Sunday.

Yesterday we also took the kids to Seattle to see the Boy king and Pharohs exhibit that they had been begging us to take them to since September. We got them tickets as part of their Christmas present. The kids said it was false advertising because they did not have that much boy king stuff. I am calling him boy king as I am to lazy to figure out the spelling for tootencommon LOL. We also went to the space needle, boy that was expensive also. Basically the hole day was spending money and the only thing that wasn't a complete waste was the pizza that we got. Authentic Neapolitan pizza (super thin crust) wood fired clay oven. Yummy.

Jen - Its so good to here from you!

Marie - I remember when I had to go to the back seat of the car and lean over the car seat to breastfeed then switch and do it for the other one. Maybe that why my back hurts all the time now.

Nat and Colleen- When are you starting your rotation?

Hopefully I will be back to write more, if not, tomorrow. I still havent put the groceries away as I wanted to do X-Train first. We all have our priorities!

Sarah

Colleen- My hunger was so intense when I started breast feeding. Unreal! I would have to have a small snack at each feeding, even the overnight ones. I remember getting super hungry during STS too. I wonder if that will happen this time. WTG on your workouts. Gotta love those DOMS!

Sarah- Too funny about breastfeeding. I have yet to try that but not a bad idea if we take a road trip :) Sounds like you had a fun day with the kids yesterday. So glad you got XTrain. No luck for me today. Cross your fingers I get it tomorrow.

Feeding time then to bed for us.

The Xtrain vibe on this forum is infectious! It seems as though everyone is super stoked for this series (except for some folks over at VF I'm sure ).

Yesterday's w/o was Xtrain Legs standing + floor. I was supposed to do the standing + rear delts, but decided to do the rear delts this w/e. Anyway, the workout was FAB. I've read that some people did it not find it challenging enough (Colleen I though of your review), and I would have to agree to a certain extent. SO I decided not to follow Cathe's weight selections for the standing portion. For some reason, she went lighter than I've seen her typically go. For example, the walking lunges w/1x8lbs, I easily did 10lbs. Could have actually done 12lbs. Or even better, you can use 2 weights as I've seen her do in STS. Another one for example is plie squats w/the stability ball, she only did 10lbs. I went up to 15lbs. As for the floor work, I always get smoked during those . There are some new moves that I found very refreshing, like the Clamshell (I'm not sure if Cathe's done this before). The floor portion, for me personally, takes this workout above & beyond.

Sarah
WTG on getting back into your workouts :). I like how you smelled the Xtrain case :D. I always tend to smell new items as well. Something about the smell of "new" just makes me happy :D.
Sorry your outing in Seattle was a disappointment. I hate when that happens , especially if you've spent a lot of $$.
I've already started my Xtrain rotation :D.

Colleen
My bi's and tri's are def MY weakest muscles too :(. I think the 100RC's will change that (hopefully!).
Sorry you are not a fan of Hard Strikes. I'm sure you'll get a good trade ;).

Jen
I am not able to find any boxing gloves for $20 . I'm telling you, we get screwed BIG TIME here in Canada for fitness gadgets!
WTG on sticking to your rotation! You are doing such a great job Jen :).
It's very difficult to make life simpler, but I totally agree on wanting/craving that. The simpler your life is, the happier you become. I learned that when I visited Cuba. Those people pretty much live with just the basic's, and yet if you ask them how they like their life, they say they are fulfilled and happy.

Hello Friends.
Happy Friday!!

Natty. Bummer, you can't find gloves at that price. I know many Canadians shop in MI at IKEA, about one hour from Windsor Ontario, and up in the UP because of the difference in price. Huge factory outlet mall in Flint, one hour from the Queens Hwy is always packed. Still dabble on Twitter but not hooked like before. Don't miss the blog too much. Ready to go back to work and don't need other stuff right now.

Colleen-Congrats on the 100 Rep challenge of Scarecrows. Don't know what that is. Jumping jacks don't bother me. Have you done Hard Strikes yet?

Sarah-Did the box smell good? I'm guilty of loving new paint smells. Bummer on Seattle.

Marie-Hunger strikes, I know those all too well. I ate a HUGE breakfast today to avoid Vertigo again. No problem on the insight. I think it's like Christmas when Cathe delivers her new series each time, everyone is uber excited to get them and to use them. But, waiting you get to read reviews.

Last night, I spun on my bike. Good news, I kept up with Brenda for most of it speed wise. Bad news, I didn't do the jumping or lifting off the seat. I stopped pedaling 3xs for not more than a minute. Being I used to ride long distance on a touring road bike, I think spinning is closer to mountain biking. My cats hated the noise. Ride, the workout, is seamless in songs and transitional moves. It seems to go by fast.
Tonight, I plan to do Friday and Saturday of 30 day undulating rotation of week 1 so I have Saturday off. 90 minutes of boxing and of low impact HiIT.
No word yet from job interview or application.

Morning ladies!

No workout today. I woke up not being too sore from yesterdays workout, but now as the hours tick by I can feel the DOMS settling in a bit. My shoulders feel okay. I was nervous as some on VF were not so positive about the scarecrow challenge, but it seems fine for me. I'm going to try doing that one once a week and see how I do. One of my goals this year is to work on my posterior delts and back more.

Overall, people on VF have been pretty positive about XTrain so far. There's a little griping here and there but not anything out of line, I would say. I think alot of people on there are incredibly grateful for the low impact options (Supercuts and Low impact Hiit are getting lots of positive posts) and also the shorter weight workouts with less equipment. Another great Cathe series! I had this awful thought the other day...what if Cathe decides to retire someday? :( Of course, I'm sure at some point she will but I hope it's not for a LOOOOOONG time! I'm hoping for lots more from her in the future! :D

Sarah- I'm not so much doing a formal rotation right now as much as I'm just trying to do and explore as much of the workouts as I can. We are going to Cancun from Jan 30-Feb 6 so any rotation would have been disrupted anyway. I'm pretty much planning on doing the 3 weight training days per week, with the cardio on other days. I'm trying to stick to only one day of high impact a week until at least February, at which time I'll probably go up to 2 days. It is TOUGH, but much easier now that XTrain is here! It's easier to do that when you are doing split weights as opposed to circuits all the time. So many of my circuit dvds have high impact in them, and I really went all out in Sept, Oct, Nov and early Dec . :p

Marie- Have you thought about contacting SNM? It seems like you should have gotten yours by now. I know at least one lady on VF found out that there was a problem with her credit card and SNM must've been swamped because they didn't contact her about it and just didn't process the order until she called.

Natty- I really liked the ball and chair section of XTrain legs! I am definitely going to go heavier on the standing portion next time, too. I just love my heavy weights for lower body! About the only floor part I liked was the clamshell, since I'm so not a floor work loving person. One thing you can try next time with the clamshell, which I did, is wear a firewalker while doing it. That really gets in there!

Jen- I think the blog was great and probably served it's purpose for you at the time, so there is no reason to regret leaving it behind now. Sometimes, you just need to explore those things and then when you've gotten what you need from it, it's time to move on. GREAT job on your workouts!

I put the x-train 90 undulating rotation in my calendar. I will have to modify it slightly to be able to work my spin bike in because I don't think thats in there. I would also like to add in some HC.

Today I did Hard Strikes. I don't normally love kickboxing I'm am sort of indifferent about it. I really liked it though. I felt like a bad ass. Maybe thats because I wore some signed UFC gloves instead of pink boxing gloves. Plus it's always nice when you can see you muscles. Despite having put on about 10 pounds around my waist and being out of shape I still have nice definition in my arms. Thats makes me happy. I am stiff in my legs from LI hiit yesterday.

Tonight I play bunco and normally thats a big junk food feast for me so may the force be with me for that. I have won both times I played. $100 this time if I win I'm gonna get risers or a high step. Watch now that I have plans for the money I wont win.

Jen - The box did smell good. Now to plasticey ; )

Nat - I see your question got answered by Catheeeeee! Thats what my family calls her.

Colleen - I thought you had vacation coming up planned. But I wasnt sure when. Now are the kids going on this one?

Marie - Intense hunger over here too for breastfeeding. Thats was when I gained all my weight too. I always laughed about those women who do it during pregnancy for that whole "eating for two scenario". I waited and somewhere I heard that breastfeeding is an extra 1000 cal a day. So because I was breastfeeding 2 I though 2000, WOW. I at a whole row of OREO's everyday for breakfast. In fact, the kids and I just got done watching some old home movies from when they were little and they said wow mom you were kind of big.

Sarah

Just did Hard Strikes premix 16 then All Out Low Impact HiIT premix 1 but not core workout. Feeling it big.

Disc 3 legs today. I also did the CF core bonus and STS extended stretch. Wow have I been hungry today. I've been eating so much lately. I'm scared to get on the scale. My abs are out of control too. Ugh! I went shopping yesterday and got some loose fitting shirts. I never used to gain weight in my stomach but things have changed. I've always gained in my thighs and butt...still do but now it goes to my stomach too...eek!

Tony was off today. We got lots of random stuff done around the house and of course enjoyed our little man. I packed away his 0 to 3 month clothes and took out the 3 to 6 month ones. He is growing up so fast!

Colleen- Yay for DOMS :) I've had that thought about Cathe retiring too. What will we do?! I panic at the thought. She is the only instructor I'm addicted too. Heaven forbid I would have to go back to the gym. I think I will contact them. I'm all sad that I haven't gotten it yet. I'm so pathetic and checked the door 3 or 4 times today just in case I didn't hear the mail person come.

Sarah- Too funny about the breastfeeding. I do take advantage of that extra calorie need some days. Oh I'm starving...must be because I'm breastfeeding lol...maybe it's just my excuse. You must have been sooo hungry feeding 2 little ones! Glad to hear you likes HS. I as well am not a kickboxing fan but am hoping I will like that one since you did.

Natasha- Thanks for the review on legs. Love how detailed you are.

Jen- WTG on your workout!
