Weird shoe/foot problem

Lately, about 30 minutes into a cardio routine my toes on my left foot go numb. Sometimes on my right, also. It's weird because I will change shoes, and it will get better for a few weeks, then all of a sudden start up again. When I stop exercising and cool down, feeling comes back and numbness goes away. It's always about 30 minutes into a workout, I can set a clock by it. Has anyone heard of this or had this happen to them?

TIA!

Sally

My toes go numb into the workouts too. I don't know if I am tying my shoes too tight or what. I have really high arches and I don't know if that may play a part in it. I keep saying I need to get it checked out but I have other medical problems I am dealing with right now and I don't want to add another one to the list. Let me know what you find out!

I have had that problem before - I also have very high arches. I had a very good gel insole put in my shoes. That extra support made a big difference for me.

My toes still go numb in spinning class, but my cycling shoes are hard and flat so there's not much I can do about that!

I found a shoe store that specializes in foot problems. They did a computer image of my foot and have made many pairs of my shoes more comfortable. I figured it was cheaper to start there than the podiatrist!

Strangely enough, I also have this problem occasionally when I'm out running. Mine usually kicks in after about 45 minutes...only on my left foot and only the little toes. I'm not sure why this is, but I was thinking it could be the shoelaces too tight. I have been trying to tie them a little looser and haven't had the problem in a couple of weeks. I think I have pretty normal arches. I'll be curious to see how others weigh in on this issue.

I am so glad I am not the only one. I will try to tie my shoe laces loosly tonight when I work out and I'll post my results. I hope that's all it is. It's really annoying me!

I've had this problem before too and I also have high arches. I told by brother in law about this (he's a physical therapist) and now whenever I get new exercise shoes, he laces the shoes for me and I don't have any problems. He laces them skipping some of the holes in the middle. If lacing looser doesn't help, you might want to try not lacing every hole. Good luck!

I'll have to try that with the laces like that. I noticed on some website before they showed how you should lace the shoes if you have high, flat, or normal arches. I thought it was a crazy idea but I guess you are living proof. Maybe I need to find that site again.

I don't have anything helpful to add, but I wanted to tell you how thankful I am for this thread! I've had this same problem off and on, and it's good to have a couple of "fixes" to try. Thanks! :)

Not sure if this will work or help, but back in my Billy Blanks days (prior to Cathe), I remember him saying something about feet/toes going numb and that you should wiggle them through out the work out in your shoes...?? Not sure if it will work or not. Worth a try?

I've had this problem once in awhile with both jogging and long-distance cycling. I have low arches. I think it's the shoe pressing in a nerve. So lacing differently has helped, so has different shoes.

I tied my shoes "loosely" last night and it didn't bother me as much. I always have laced my running shoes every other notch and they never bother me. I am going to try that with all my shoes and see how it goes.

I wouldn't exactly say my toes go numb, but more like they sting and burn. Mostly on the left, but also on the right. I too thought it was my shoes were too tight. But now I am wearing shoes a half size too big and there's plenty of width and they're not tight around the toes and forefoot. I wish I knew what caused this and how to fix it!!
