Weights 2 days in a row; and shoes

Hello,
Does anyone work out barefoot? I know you are not supposed to for support and stress reasons but am wondering if this is a fact or just considered common sense.

Also, can you workout 2 days in a row using weights if one day is, say, a Cathe upper body weight DVD and the next a cardio DVD where light weights may be incorporated- such as a Firm or Sansone DVD?

Thank you!

Not Cathe here, but I tried working out barefoot on a couple occasions, and had two horrible workouts, I kept wondering about my support, it's not something I'd ever do again. As far as this being rooted in fact, I've never seen documentation of it, it just seems to make more sense to work out with as much support as possible, especially when doing advanced workouts such as Cathe's.

As far as weights back to back days, I look at it this way...I want the full benefits of my workouts, and to get the full benefits, I have read numerous places that you really need to give your muscles almost 48 hours to recover and replenish, or you run the risk of overtraining. Again, this is something I learned from experience. When I first started weight training, I thought, the more, the better, and ended up in bed for about a week, barely able to move after I strength trained 7 consecutive days. Never again.

Lynn, I work out in bare feet sometimes, if I am only doing weight work for the upper body, and depending on the workout at that. Otherwise, I wear my shoes. As to working out, your muscles really need their recovery time but I've not done either of the workouts you mention so I don't know how much weight is used in those. I certainly would not do a Cathe weight workout one day, and a Cathe circuit weight w.o. the next.

Thanks for the tips. BTW, these cardio workouts just use maybe 3lb hand held balls or weights or a stretchy band- nothing heavy. Wondering if I should skip using them altogether..
My daughter, Shannan's, nickname is ShannaBanana!

Cool - I've always been Shana Banana, and never met another! It helps people remember how to pronounce my name :) (...but sometimes they only remember the Banana part so I respond to that as well!)

Hahaha - I workout barefoot when I'm doing just upper body weight work and ab work for that day.

Lower body weight work and cardio I put on my shoes ;)

Would you not pick up and hold your daughter, do the laundry, go grocery shopping, garden and host of many other things that have "weight" because you lifted the day before?

The light weights in the cardio workouts are used to increase the intensity. I don't see any problem with it.

I do ALL of my workouts without shoes (except for my treadmill, I do put on socks and shoes). I do all of my step workouts without shoes (I do wear socks -- I don't go barefoot, but pretty much the same thing!). I work out on carpet and I cannot do step workouts in my shoes on carpet. I've tried and I risk hurting myself more doing it with shoes than without. I work out barefoot for everything else. I haven't had any trouble doing it this way (although I know it's better to work out in shoes). I used to have problems with plantar fascitis (sp?) in the past, but once I started using shoes on the treadmill, that stopped. I'm hoping in the near future to be able to put in flooring like Cathe's gym (I went to the roadtrip last year and LOVED working out on a gym floor -- it was the first time I've done that since I was in high school and I loved it!!). Anyhow -- until then, I'm going barefoot or with socks (I do socks on the step because I don't like the feel of the bench with bare feet.)

Hope this helps! Julie

I actually have an old non-Cathe workout that is done without shoes. The workout is designed to strengthen the body from the ground up. The feet actually get a nice workout. I
