!!!!!! Weightloss Challenge - Oct 12th

Cathlete
Alright Ladies. Another down for me. However, my weight loss has stalled. This week I will dabble with the Paleo diet. I'll keep you posted. Off to get a workout in.

Hi guys! I'm down 3.5 pounds (I haven't weighed myself for a couple of weeks, so I didn't lose 3.5 in one week, but in two).

I'm feeling good about the direction I'm going with my workouts, and actually feel a sort of relief that I don't need to push it so much with the long hard cardio workouts. I'll keep up my weekly long runs, but won't worry so much about tons of cardio on the other days.

Have a great day - its Friday :)

Hey, Ladies. Today's run was 4.5 . Not as fun as last weeks, but I maintained. Didn't eat much yest. so im sure that brought on the slight fatigue of today's run. Off to eat Paleo style breakfast.

Good morning ladies. I hope you're all doing well. : ) Yesterday was a chilly beach ride (started out at 28 degrees). Fast and flat. Just to suit up takes 15 minutes. Friday was horrific dental work, so I even wore a face mask to keep the cold off my tooth. Ninja style.

Today is a much needed day off. The focus will be on eating as clean as possible today. Lots of fruits and veggies. Maybe some yoga and a walk later.

Hey, Ladies. Tina, ouch! That's all I can say

Today's workout was an oldie but a goodie. Low Impact Circuit. Loved it. Didn't finish all the cardio cycle for 1 and 2. But, I was strong during the 1st long cardio.

Ending up working 22 hours this weekend. I was so exhausted when I got home tonight, I didn't even go for our family walk. Hopefully tomorrow will be a kick butt workout.

Melanie, congrats on the weight loss! Whatever you're doing, stick with it! : ) I need to face the scale tomorrow, I've been dodging it all week. : (

No workout yet but the pants I'm wearing today are actually bottoned up and fitting nicely. I couldnt botton them last week. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The scale hasnt moved, but inches are falling off. Yeaaaaaa

Happy Monday girls!

Tina - are you ok? Sounds like you've been through the wringer!!!

Shereta - woo to the hoo on the inches coming off! The scale is so deceptive. Its so much more fulfilling when the clothes start fitting better.

I had a good weekend with my in-laws but indulged a little too much on all the stuff I baked for them. I haven't seen them in so long that I really wanted to make everything yummy that I knew for them. Well, today I'm back on track and feeling positive.

No workout this morning, but I'm planning on doing a Hiit tonight. Short, sweet & effective!

Wow Shereta, congratulation! That's awesome. I reluctantly stepped on the scale today for the first time in a week and it still hasn't budged. I've only been back to STS for one week, so I'm not worried yet.

Taking yesterday off was such an energy booster today. I was so energetic, I added Step Blast after STS M1D4. I haven't done SB for a very long time, I had forgotten how fun that one is. The weather is incredible here today, almost 70 degrees and humid. We'll be taking a nice long walk tonight. : )

I hope everything is okay with Sue. I miss her posts. : (

Good morning - this morning I did Cardio & Weights, but upped the intensity by raising my step to 8 inches and using heavier weights than Cathe uses. It made the workout much more challenging. Plus I love the feeling you get from using heavier weights.

I'm really liking myfitnesspal - it helps me to make better food choices, by keeping track of my carbs & protein & fat etc. So if I'm looking for something to eat but I've had most of my carb ratios for the day, I'll choose something with less carbs and more protein. I'm using the ratio of 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat.

Tina - good for you for taking a much-needed day off! Your weekend sounded exhausting. I'm glad that you had more energy and added SB to your day. I love that workout too.

Shereta - how are you doing with the paleo diet?

Busy, busy, busy Yall OMG. Okay, no workout again today. Urghhhhh!!!!! Paleo is good. I follow it a lot. Only had one meal off plan cause I was driving alot and had a protein bar for dinner which is a no-no cause it's processed. I also stopped using artificial sugar and cream in coffee. Yep, been drinking it black. Guess what? No energy highs and lows. I love that. Gotta run.

Smoochies

Hi ladies, sorry to be away so long! I've been busy busy w/ work and my never ending to do list. It's a 4-letter word I tell you! I went from Thurs-Monday w/ no workouts :(. Today I did STS TB, no bonus burns, no abs. It was still very challenging. I got my 1RM done since the last time so I was lifting heavier and towards the end I could only manage half the reps. Not sure if I should lower weights or be happy that I went to failure. I officially signed up for warrior dash next month so I need to start getting my cardio on. On Sunday I made a pumpkin pie from actual pumpkins for the first time. I now know how to make pumpkin purée (it's remarkably easy). My crust needs work though.

Melanie good job on the weight loss, do you think limiting cardio has anything to do w/ it or is it too soon to make a call? It sounds like you have a good relationship with your in-laws, I bet that makes family life nice. I'm not tracking calories right now but I'll try myfitnesspal when I start it back up. how are you feeling w/ the new macro ratios?

Tina I hope your mouth is recovered from the dentist! No worries on the scale not budging, as they say in black jack "a push is a win!". I'm really tempted to use the 30% discount and get the STS downloads before the end of the month. You sure are having some temperature swings!

Shereta it sounds like paleo is going well for you? How are you liking the food options? I put cinnamon in my black coffee, you might try it if you like that spice(and it's allowed), what are the rules w/ spices and paleo? Congrats on the looser pants, I agree w Melanie that the fit of your clothes is a better indication than the scale. Not long before you're shopping for new stuff :)

Have a great Wednesday!

Great to see your post Sue! We missed you! I hear you about the four letter work load, but see, you're right back on track. I think you should reward yourself with the STS download. ; )

My dental appointment turned into a nightmare. I'm looking at lots of oral surgery in the next few months. : ( There will be some liquid diet in my immediate future and a draining of my bank account. Blah!

I'm back on Myfitnesspal again. I'm still battling the little baker inside. I keep flipping through Baking with Julia and drooling at the photos. Maybe hypnoses would stop that urge. I'm going to check iTunes to see if they have a podcast on it, I'm not even joking. I need to disconnect the stress eater mindset.

While eating dinner last night, we had our first real earthquake. I felt like the kid from The Incredibles, "that was totally wicked". I think I need more excitement in my life.

Off to do STS legs. I hope you all have a great day. : )

Hey, Yall. Another quick post. Still no workout. Its been 3 days, but I'm down 2.6 pounds since Friday. I like the foods. I always knew I needed to switch up the foods I eat since I couldnt get my weight to budge, but I didnt know what to change. The book - The Paleo Diet, is really helping me understand that the more natural I eat the better. So, only 3-5% processed food, no dairy, almond milk for smoothies, lots of veggies, a little fruit and lean meat. I do not get hungry, I'm so alert and when I wake up, I feel good. This is the 2nd diet book I've ever read. The 1st one was the Dukan Diet. Not heatlhy at all. Also, on a very personal note - my number 2s are wonderful. I've always thought I needed lots of fiber to make sure 'I go." I guess I just need the right kind of fiber. Every night, bam, like clockwork. and no gas.

gotta run

Good evening, I'm hitting the sack early. was up @5:30am for my walk/run, also did 4ds abs. I'm super sore from weights yesterday.

Shereta congrats on that scale moving down! Wow that diet is doing a lot more than just helping you lose weight! No hunger and alert are big wins :). I've heard of the Dukan diet but every time I hear that work I picture a turducken!

Tina I keep the little baker in me on a short leash by allowing a little indulgence for me and the rest needs to leave the house. Can you bring most of your baked treasures to work to leave in the break room? If you find any hypnosis stuff on iTunes, you should share what you think. I've heard of people using hypnosis to lose weight and quit smoking but I've never known anyone personally who's done it. Sorry to hear about your dental issues, I'll bet you'll be happy when they're over.

Hi to Melanie!

OMG Shereta!!! I nearly laughed out loud here in my VERY QUIET office when I read the last part of your post - BAM like clockwork!! Oh my goodness :) I'm laughing so hard on the inside.

Congrats on the weightloss - I really agree with you about the paleo diet. ALTHOUGH, I have been adding 2% fat greek yogurt into my diet. I need to get more protein and healthy fat in my diet and this is an easy way for me.

Sue - great to hear from you again. Sounds like you're getting back into gear with your workouts. I think going to failure on STS TB is a good thing. Better to be lifting at your limit and going to failure (isn't that what Cathe always encourages?)

BTW - what's a Warrior Dash? And you pumpkin pie sounds delish. How big was the pumpkin? I remember my mother cooking pumpkins in the oven when we were kids but can't remember at all how big the pumpkins were.

Tina - SOOO sorry to hear about the dental nightmare! I hope you'll be ok. How do you like MFP? What are your carb/protein & fat ratios set at? Do you eat all your exercise calories? (Sorry for all the questions! :))

So this morning for me was DrillMax. There isn't really an ab section in this workout, so tonight I think I'll do one of the ab workouts from STS. Gotta keep working on those abs. I've noticed after two weeks I'm getting a little stronger, but I have a ways to go.

I'm not gonna weigh myself tomorrow because its TTOTM. So, there's no way I'm going to torture myself with the scale when I'm already feeling crummy!!

Have a great day girls.

Today was Cycle Max and STS no equipment abs. It's been a long time since I've had to break out CM. I'd prefer to be outside, but CM really is a good workout. I had some nice puddles under my bike, which always makes me happy.

Melanie, I have no idea what my ratios are set at. I just spent 10 minutes over there trying to figure out what ratios they set me at. I've been using it for months and have just been plugging in my info and making sure I don't go in the red in any areas. How do you change it? I wouldn't even know what to change it to. I try not to eat all my exercise calories. I figure where I'm so short, I'm probably not burning as many calories as the data base says I am.

I made four loaves of bread today. Two plain and two cinnamon. I've given two loaves away. I'm possessed by Betty Crocker. I did download a few hypnoses podcasts for this weekend with titles such as; Gain Control of Emotional Eating, Lose it without Starving, Are You a Muncher, and Change Habits, Addictions and Behaviors. I'll let you know on Monday if I'm cured. ; )

Hola! Walk/run@5:30am, nothing else. I decided to forgo coffee today and I dragged all day long. Won't be doing that again!

Melanie here's the link for warrior dash: http://www.warriordash.com/ it's a 5k + obstacles. I did it last year, my time was an hour 20 minutes I think (mostly walking - I called it the princess saunter) , this time I want to do it in under an hour.

For the pumpkin pie you need pie pumpkins, not carving pumpkins. They're quite a bit smaller and labeled specifically for pies. The recipe called for 2cups of purée and 2kins gave me just under 2 cups, next time I'll buy 3. cut them in half, scoop out the innards and bake @350 until fork tender (45-60 min). After cooling scoop out the flesh, blend well then strain the liquid out w cheesecloth. Use it in place of canned pumpkin in any recipe. My active time in the kitchen was probably about 20min, the baking and straining were what took a long time, next time I'll prepare it the day before I want to use it.

I'm with you on weighing in. If I think I haven't lost weight I don't weigh in. Why go out of your way to aggravate yourself? Only exception is end of month, I like to have a number to compare one month to another. Those STS abs are killers! Did you do one tonight?

Tina sorry you're cooped up indoors! Those loaves sound delicious, good for you for sending them out into the world. Do you have any other crafty hobbies that could take you away from baking? I have a friend who makes soap and candles as a substitute for her kitchen activities. Those hypnosis podcasts sound intriguing. My (occasional) problem is procrastination, I might look around for something hypnotic on that.

Shereta are you still doing well w your new eating plan?

Have a great Friday ladies :)

Good morning all - this morning was LBB for me (did the extended version with the barre at the end). I find that Butts & Guts is tougher than LBB - but LBB does have a fun factor and I like Cathe's attitude and coaching throughout the workout. Well, its always good to mix up the workouts so I'm glad I have both.

Yes, last night I did Weights & Plates from the STS Abs. Man that is tough! I have a lot of improvement to make, but I'm determined to keep following through with my ab workouts. I was really conscious of following through with every move and making sure I got deep in the move. I'm hoping that'll help me improve my technique.

Tina - if you want to change your ratios in MFP, you click on the Goals tab, then select "Change my Goals", then select "Custom". This is where you can input what percentage you want for carbs, protein, fat, even sodium, sugar, fibre etc. You can also input your exercise calorie goals for the week.

I have my ratios set at 40% carbs, 30% protein and 30% fat. This is after reading a couple of posts recommending these ratios for losing weight but maintaining lean muscle mass. Honestly I find it hard to keep at 40% carbs. I'm usually a little higher, but I hope in time I can learn to make different food choices other than things high in carbs.

There's also lots of discussion on the site about whether or not to "eat" your exercise calories. I don't eat all of them, but I do eat some. I suppose if I didn't eat them at all then I'd lose weight faster, but it may be muscle that I'm losing. I guess its all a learning process. If I know that I'm going out for dinner, I won't eat my exercise calories at all.

So when do you listen to those podcasts? When you're in bed? Or do you listen to them during a workout or activity? Sounds interesting. I need coaching like that!!

Sue - thanks for the link for the warrior dash - that looks awesome!!! Oh my goodness - you are one TOUGH warrior for even wanting to tackle that! Does it feel good to get down in the mud? I love the looks on people's faces. Well, we'll all be cheering you on the day of the race. That is just too awesome.

Thanks also for the tip on the pumpkins. I'm going grocery shopping today so I'll take a look if I can find some.

So that's about all for me. Hope you all have a great weekend!

Hi ladies! Today was 30/30, felt great after I stopped sucking wind. I'll be out early tomorrow to run around the neighborhood. I bought STS today and spent a little time with the user guide. All those pushups listed made me want to cry, but I'll just begin where I am and improve from there. Melanie good job on the AB work! I think I only did abs once this week, need to step it up. Seriously, the warrior dash looks harder than it is (says the girl who walked it) and I think the mud is a little gimmicky to end the race really dirty, but it's fun :). Tina & Shereta - anything new? Fun plans for the weekend? Have a good one!
