!!!!!!Weightloss Challenge - 9/28

Cathlete
Alright Ladies, we have 3 more months of this challenge. Let's really dig deep and make some serious improvements in our weightloss efforts, overall health and strength and cardio gains.

I'm pumped, as you can see.

Tina, I'm with you on no Halloween candy this year. We know it's all good, but it reaks havoc on my cravings, skin and energy level. No energy zapping, craving inducing, skin blotching candy for me this year!! Who's with us!?!?!?!?!? Glad DH really knew when your anniversary was. We need all the help we can get as we older, right? LOL

Sue, I'm stronger from doing 4DS 2 weeks in a row al I so. I was almost matching Cathe's weight this past week. I really pushed myself.
Tina, hope you enjoy yoga today. Thats another thing I want to get more into. Man, my rotation's looking pretty packed right now.

Melanie, when's your next race? Now I have to get my rotation back to three runs a week, so that will knock out some of my beloved Cathe cardio. Instead of doing pure weightwork, I may incorporate cardio/weights like HST and HSC into the rotation. I gotta start training for the 10K on Thanksgiving day. I want to beat my time from last year of 1:12. Im really trying to knock off 7 minutes. So, I have got to run.

Happy Friday! So glad this week is almost done, it seems to have gone by so slowly.

Shereta - thanks for the reminder to get our butts into gear. We've got 3 months. Surely we've learned a lot in the past three months that will help us to be more successful.

I'm in on the no Halloween candy resolution - you always think cause they're small that its harmless... what a trap!

I don't have any plans for a fall race. But you've put the thought in my head that I should look for one - a 10k would be fun. Gotta keep up that running vibe.

I did run home from work last night and it was awesome! I really pushed myself and had my fastest pace ever. You're right - I'm getting addicted to that high.

Shereta - that's a great goal you have to knock off 7 minutes of your 10K. I'm sure you can do it cause you are one determined lady!

Sue - great to hear about your strength gains on 4DS. Let me know how you do with working on your core. I did a core workout this morning after cardio and I'm feeling it. But I gotta stick with it and hopefully I'll see results.

Tina - isn't it usually the hubby that's guilty of forgetting when the anniversary is? :) Too funny! Glad to hear that he liked the bike light. I hope you do get in that anniversary ride in better weather. Where are you planning on going? Do you ever take a lunch with you or stop at a restaurant?

I know what you mean about wanting to fit in a few Cathe favourites before starting STS again. There's a few workouts I'm hoping to get in soon - MM, Pure Strength, Pyramids (love Pyramids soooo much!).

This morning I did Athletic Training. I'm enjoying the LIS - its a fun break from running.

Have a great day girls!

Happy Saturday, Yall. Today, I did a 3 mile trail run with DH. This is very first time I ran and couldnt get through it. Here is a list of why it was not the best of runs:

1. It was my first run in 3 weeks
2. I had on new shoes - feet hurt after a half mile
3. I ate too much sugar after dinner, so I was nathargic
4. Sugar kept me up late and I only got 3 hours of sleep
5. I didn't drink all my coffee before heading out to run

Man, I have learned some serious lessons. I've read so much info about running, I should have know better than to attempt it, but you know DH - he loves us to run together. So, I went any way. Oh, well. I still burned 644 calories in 45 minutes. :)

Tomorow, start trying to run 4 times a week to get in shape for the 10K on Tday. I'll be hitting the treadmill 3 of those days and adding weights after 2 of those. I will definitely switch a run out for a Cathe cardio if I feel burnt out. But, after training for the half and doing 8-12 miles, running 3-4 several times a week doesnt sound bad at all. hahahahaha

On the days I add weights, it will be premixes of Cathe's dvds or my own mix equalling no more than 45 minutes. I'll already be warmed up, so that should knock off 5-7 minutes. Supersets is a short weight workout and Trisets has a nice 48 minute premix that I love to do. It's easy to knock off time off of HR and STS-TB cause Cathe gets a little chatty in between sets. hahaha

Melanie, as you can see, I really want to get my 10K time down. Tomorrow, I will test myself on a 1 mile run to see what my time is then I'll finish the 3. I'm sure I could comfortably do it in 12:30. But, I think I have to get down to a 10:48 mile to finish it in 1:05. Can you check that for me? I don't know where my running chart is. Man, that would mean knocking almost 2 minutes. wow.

I'm o. My phone so ill keep it short, personals tomorrow. Just finished 4ds lis, tomorrow is boot camp. I can't wait for this rotation to be done, I'm a bit bored and I want to go outside.

Today was a cold, rain splattered ride. Ten minutes in I remembered my original thought for an anniversary gift; A FENDER. I totally forgot the grossness of the last rainy ride, frog guts and other unnamed debris covering me from head to toe. Fender has gone straight to the top of DH's Christmas list. Hopefully tomorrow is dryer.

Starting Monday, I'm going to go back to pre-planning my weekly meals. If I take it one day at a time, it shouldn't be too overwhelming. I have my old Nutrition Manager logs to start me off for the first few days, to remind myself what a balanced day looks like. I seem to have gotten away from letting myself get hungry before eating. I need to go back to letting my stomach let me know when it's time to eat and not when the clock says. I did that today at work and it felt great to be really (REALLY) hungry before having dinner. I'm not meant to be a grazer.

Shereta, when I need to add upper body after a long bike ride, I love BM2 upper body premix and MM push/pull premix. They're both really short, 30 min. or less. I bet you kick butt on your next run! : )

Hey, Ladies. I was up til midnight doing stuff. I was so exhausted, DH said I was snoring. So I missed the alarm to workout this morning. Hate that. Today, my eating was not good at all. I realized I missed my last cycle! Im sure it was from the stress of my mom being in the hospital. And, now, it's taking forever to show up. I don't feel stressed. Maybe I'm just getting into Menapause. good grief.

Woot! I finished the 4DS rotation today! So happy to have that behind me. Today was boot camp + bis/tris. My upper body is so weak, the only thing I matched Cathe on was 10lb wrist curls. Which is weird because my left wrist usually gives me problems. Tomorrow I'll start back up w/ walking/running, STS TB on Saturdays and core workouts thrown in willy nilly.

I weighed in this morning... 149.4, 2 lbs up from same time last month, but the exact same weight I had on Sept 10th. So after the first crazy week adding sugar back into my diet, I evened out and maintained the same weight for 3 weeks. I wasn't documenting my meals, but I'd estimate I was taking in 1600-1800 calories most days with Saturdays bumping up to 2000-2500. The big difference between August & September for me was in August I had no energy (about 1400 calories/day) and skipped a bunch of workouts. September my energy level was always fine and I kept to the workout schedule. So I'll need to find a way to achieve calorie reduction and maintain energy levels. I'm going to start the month at 1500/day and adjust from there.

Shereta - Good job getting out for a run w/ hubby even if you weren't happy with your performance. Some days we just aren't at our best, but starting is important! Your race prep plan sounds great, tear it up! Other than missing your cycle do you have any menopausal symptoms?

Melanie - What's your plan for workouts? Running, Cathe or both? Or wing it? Are you still eating semi-paleo?

Tina - Sorry to hear about your ride, is a miserable, rainy, debris splattered ride better than none at all? How is your meal planning coming along? Any gems you want to share?

Have a great week ladies!

Good morning girls - not feeling so great this morning, but its still nice to read all your comments/experiences/challenges. Nice to know I'm not alone.

I weighed myself this morning and I'm up 4 pounds from the beginning of the month. Really feeling down about that right now.

But I know that its my fault. I was doing well with the weight-loss when I was strictly following the paleo diet, but I've slowly been allowing myself to cheat. So starting today, I'm going to go back to following it strictly.

On a positive note, I ran 13.78 miles yesterday!! I was so ecstatic when I came home, especially because my pace was 15 seconds faster than last week when I ran in the actual half-marathon which is 13 miles. :) I'm trying to gradually increase my running mileage to 15. Perhaps one day I'll be able to do the marathon. But I gotta take it slowly.

Shereta - If you want to run the 10K in 65 minutes, your average pace has to be 10:29/mile. You might logically think its 10:48, but there's a weird calculation:

Divide minutes by miles (65 minutes/6.2 miles) = 10:48
Subtract the number of minutes from that # (10.48 - 10) = .48
Multiply that number by 60 (.48 x 60) = 29 - this # represents the seconds
Add that number to the minutes (10 + .29) = 10:29/mile

Crazy eh? Or you could just use this calculator: Cool Running | Pace calculator

So much easier!! I hate math, especially on a Monday morning.

Sue - congrats on finishing 4DS!! I hope you can find that balance between calorie restriction and energy levels. I can't believe how challenging this is. 1400 calories/day seems really low. I'd probably pass out. No wonder you had no energy! Have you ever thought about adding more healthy fats into your diet?

You asked about my workout plans - this week I'm finishing my 2nd week of the Low Impact Series. But I'm also incorporating running because I really love to run. Next week I'm going to start 4DS and mix it up with running. I'm still going to keep Sundays as my long run day.

Tina - thanks for the reminder to eat when we're really hungry. I graze too and that is probably one of my biggest downfalls when it comes to losing weight. You just don't hold yourself accountable when grazing.

Anyways, too bad about cycling on the weekend - frog guts?!?!!! Why the heck are you waiting until December to get yourself a fender? Hahahaaha! I think the first taste of frog guts in my face, and I'd be buying myself a fender. :)

I made homemade protein bars yesterday, and while they aren't delicious, they are healthy. Does anyone have an easy recipe for protein bars that doesn't include peanut butter? I couldn't find anything online yesterday.

I pulled an old Nutrition Manager log and will copy it for today. It looks like this:

Breakfast:
Coffee
1 C old fashioned oat meal
1/2 C plain greek yogurt
2 clementines

Lunch:
1/2 can of tuna
1 plain tortilla
1/2 Tlb mayo
2 Tlb hummus
pepper and cucumber slices

Snack:
1 c skim milk
1 square protein bar
1 small apple

Dinner:
1 serving of pork
1 small baked potato
1 c steamed vegetables

Dessert:
Hot Cocoa
100 cal. almond pack

This is under 2000 calories. I bought my favorite Rooibos tea to drink throughout the day to keep me on track. It only needs a splash of milk.

DH and I did MM together yesterday, as the weather was a total wash out. It did prove that we need to buy another barbell and a stability ball before we jump into STS together.

Kickboxing on tap this morning. I have Susan Chung's new kickboxing on pre-order and it should be shipping by the end of October. I'm so excited! : )

Sue, I'm battling the scale too. I'm up four pounds now since stopping STS. Next Monday will be my STS start date, I can't wait.

Sorry if this is to wordy, I'm just typing my thoughts. Hope you all have a great day! : )

Hey girls - I am in so much pain right now. My left shoulder hurts so badly I can barely move my arm. I have no idea how this happened - maybe I slept on it funny? Its been hurting all day so that puts a kaibosh on my workout plans for tonight. I was going to do Afterburn - but my body just can't take it.

I plan on having a hot bath - hopefully it helps. :(

Yeah, we are chatty chatty lately, but I like it. Im having a mental block about running during the week. I want Cathe's !!!!!!! But, I'm tired also and Cathe wakes me up. So, I won't pressure myself. as long as I'm working out, that all that really matters......

Yep I'm trying to keep my calories between 1500 and 1650 for sure. I've got to drop some weight. I'm also admitting the stress level in my life needs to be addressed. So, I will work in a short relaxing yoga in the evening and to be on time every night except Wed. So, with that I've got to go get dinner and a couple chores done.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder Melanie! I went through that last spring and it lasted about a week. As fast as it came on, it disappeared. I hope the same happens to you! Man that's a bummer. : (

Melanie - I'm so sorry to hear you're in pain, keep us updated, I hope it goes away really soon. But you rocked that run, didn't you? I think I do a good job of getting healthy fats -olive oil mostly. I do use butter sparingly because it just doesn't make any sense to me to use a butter substitute that has a hard-to-read ingredient list. My diet has plenty of fish and nuts. When I was doing 1400/day I had used the Cathe nutrition manager which put my caloric range between 1200-1450 so I settled on 1400. I'm sure I'll eventually find what works.

Tina - that's a lot of food for under 2000! Did you stick to that plan & did it keep you full all day long? When you did STS before did it help you lose weight?

Shereta - You're so right - getting the workout in is the important thing, and not burning out on what we think we "should" be doing. I think the yoga's a good idea, do you do Cathe or other instructors or self-led?

Today I actually got up at 5am and went out for my walk/run. But the run eluded me, walked for 3 miles. Went to work on my treadmill, 2 hours walking, other 7 standing, then after dinner went for another 3 mile walk. The weather is nice & cool and the best thing about getting out there was spending some quality time w/ my playlist - I missed it! I aimed for 1500 calories today but hit 1677. Energy level was excellent until late afternoon but I got my 2nd wind and kept on going.

As far as any backsliding we've done in the past, it's just that - done and over. We can control now and make plans for the future. Any bad feelings about the past need to be let go to make room for optimism and resolve.

See y'all tomorrow :)

Woah, the meal plan yesterday was too much for me. I was able to knock of dessert and the afternoon snack. I'm going to plan less today and really listen to hunger clues. My local grocery store is really trying to push the halloween candy. It's at the end of every aisle with crafty decorations to lure people in. I haven't even had a slight interest in buying. I made a pact and sticking to it! :D

BM2 as is this morning and BC upper/lower with DS. I think it may be time to find him a different routine, just to break up the three day repeat. Maybe Bob Harper? It needs to be short and sweet with a good sweat factor.

Sue, I like what you said about backsliding and not focusing on that. Time to re-evaluate and get busy! : )

Good morning - my shoulder is feeling slightly better. I did Afterburn this morning, and when it came to shoulder presses, I just didn't raise my arms above my head. One of the last exercises is lateral raises, and I just did bicep curls instead. No way I could do those lateral raises! So I'm feeling good that I conquered that workout with some substitutions.

Shereta - I hope that the yoga helps you with your stress levels. Its a good plan to do that rather than allow yourself to turn to food. Let us know if it helps.

Sue - You had a busy day yesterday! Wow - up at 5:00 a.m? I thought that getting up at 5:20 was bad... So next time I'm up at 5:20, I'll imagine you already 20 minutes into your workout!

How do you find working on your treadmill? Can you concentrate? I heard something funny on NPR - Wait Wait Don't Tell Me - they were quoting a "scientific" study that shows that people who sit all day at work eventually get a bigger butt because of all the pressure they put on their backside all day. :) So good for you that you're keeping active while working.

Tina - How did you manage with BM2 followed by BC upper/lower? That's quite the schedule!!

I hope everyone has a great day!

No workout today, woke up and my legs were on fire especially just above the ankles. I had to talk myself into standing for work, once I was doing that talked myself into walking for a couple of hours. The easy parts of my job I can do walking no problem, typing also doable. When I have to do any heavy thinking I need to remain stationary.

Shereta, how's the PMS going? Any yoga today? If you have yoga relax, I highly recommend it, like it better than yoga max. How's your sweet tooth?

Tina nice job on ignoring the candy. How was your meal plan today?

Melanie - I'm glad you're feeling a little better! AB with an injury? you're a trooper! Just so you know, I'm not usually an early riser, but I'm trying to switch my workouts to first thing so I'm less likely to skip it. My days can get away from me pretty easily. So hopefully I'll keep the early mornings going, but I know it'll be a process before it becomes ingrained. My backside has gotten smaller from working on my feet, but I'm seeing more veins. Right now they're spiders, I'm hoping they stay small. A fellow NPRer, nice!

Have a good night!

todays workout was a premix from KPC. I burned 506 calories. I hope to do SuperSets tomorrow.

Tina, good luck fighting the candy monster this month. I'm fighting too. Good luck coming up with a different plan. I think I'll try to get more Kickboxing in. I love it.

Sue, I like to do yoga DVD's, but if it's close to bedtime, I'll do my own version for 10-15 minutes. Did you find out what happened to your leg? PMS should be over soon. It knocked me for a doozy this month. The sweet tooth is still there. The yoga did help.

Melanie, at least you were still able to get a good workout in. How's your shoulder today?

Hi guys - my shoulder is doing better this morning, still a tiny bit sore, but I'm not going to complain. I really we need a new bed, because I didn't do anything to strain my shoulder, but only felt sore after waking up the other morning. Another unexpected expense!! I hate how you can be following your budget so well, and then something happens and you have to blow it.

We also need to get a new car soon. I really wanted our 1997 Honda to last forever, but honestly it has 400,000 kilometers (which is around 250,000 miles). Last night the window wouldn't roll back up.... :(

Well, this morning I did Cycle Max. I'm really looking forward to Cathe's new cycling dvd coming with X-Train. I think Cycle Max is one of my favourite Cathe workouts. Weird eh?

OK girls, lets keep remembering our determination to watch our diets. Stay away from the candy!!

Sue - do you listen to Wait Wait on NPR? I love that show - anyways, they were saying that some cattle farmers are now feeding their cattle corn syrup because corn is getting too expensive. Here in Canada we're having a massive recall of beef from a huge plant in Alberta because of e-coli contamination. I had to get rid of a bunch of beef I just bought. This all makes me wonder if I should just go to a local butcher and make sure I get grass-fed beef...

Did a really quick kickboxing premix this morning and then DS and I took the day off from homeschooling and went to see Bill Clinton speak at our local university. We'll use it as U.S. Government field trip. Eating has not been on track today as we've been rushing since this morning. Back to normal starting now, I won't feel guilty about the Subway this afternoon.

Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me is my absolute favorite Podcast. I never miss it. Carl Castle on my answering machine would be brilliant. The part about the iCar robot had me in stitches. "I feel your wife's butt everyday".

I've been trying to push my daughter into some form of exercise, as this is her first year not going to dance class since she was 3. I encouraged her to go to the YMCA or try a Cathe disc. She finally tried Hiit Pyramid yesterday and then humbly came upstair after 15 minutes and told DH that "Mom is in serious shape." She tried KPC today and loved it. Now she wants to work up to Hiit and outside running. When I was her age, that was when I caught the workout bug and have never looked back. I really hope it becomes a habit for her.

It is STILL raining here. We had a few hours of sun yesterday, but then back to this nasty constant drizzle. We're hoping it breaks for Friday and we can finally get our anniversary ride in. I hope you all have sun where you are!
