!!!!!!!!Weightloss Challenge 10/5

Happy Friday Yall. Today Crossfire was good to me. I skipped a few segments but still burned 587 calories in 43 minutes.

Tomorrow, I will go for a run with DH.

My weight loss is getting better. PMS is over and I'm loosing inches and the scale has moved back downward.

Where yall at today?

Hey Shereta! Good to hear about your progress. My weigh-in is on Monday, and I'm hoping the scale shows me some love!!

Today was CleanMax - but after dinner I decided I had to get my workout in. So I did Slide & Glide, which I haven't done all the way through in a very long time. Its a good workout to do when you don't really feel like working out!

Tomorrow is a 10K run followed by Total Body trisets - upper body.

Enjoy your run with your hubby!

I didn't get a workout in today. I guess I need to come up with an official schedule for myself, it's too easy to skip otherwise. Shereta have fun w your hubby, sounds like a good time. Melanie you too have a nice run. I'll be doing STS TB tomorrow, I'm anticipating the DOMS already. Hi to Tina!

Finally the weather broke and we were able to do our anniversary ride. We changed things up this year and didn't stop for lunch. We came home, stretched and grabbed the kids to go to dinner with us. Not romantic but very enjoyable. We found a nice restaurant serving outside. It was that warm and sunny. : )

The weather is supposed to turn again starting tomorrow. We have a ride planned in the morning unless its raining when we wake up. (I'm kinda hoping for rain). DD did another round of KPC today, she says she is really enjoying it. The gestastional phase of a Cathelete.

Hey Ladies. Today's run was FANTASTIC. My endurance returned 100 fold, I wore 2 pair of socks for a snug fit, I slept well last night, ate good yesterday, got all my coffee and water with a meal bar before the run - and ran 65 minutes straight. The trail was nice and cool. It was hilly, but I tackled them ALL. I was so impressed with myself. and I did workout yesterday, so I thought my legs would be tired. But they were strong, and my breathing was nice. We talked more than we ever have on a run. It was truly amazing. Im very impressed with it all.

Melanie, how was ur run and Trisets today?

Sue, setting up a schedule works well for me too.

Tina, so glad to hear your ride and time with family went well. Fun things in life are so needed.

Another beautiful day today! Just returned from an awesome recovery ride, tail wind and no chain on the bike. Not even a little fatigue from yesterdays 80 (I'll probably regret saying that tomorrow). Really getting excited to jump back into STS on Monday. :)

Awesome job Shereta! It sounds like you've hit a new fitness level.

Today I did STS TB. Skipped the extra burns and had to drop out of the abs work about a 3rd into it. Water was sloshing around my stomach making me uncomfortable. I may do some core work and/or yoga later. Next week I'll start w/ core and see if that works better for me. I didn't have all my 1RM done (I winged it) so I'm going to finish those on Tues & Thurs & do TB again next Saturday. I'll also be working up a 3 week rotation. I was bored during the last week of the 4DS rotation from last month so hopefully a 3 week one will work well with my dwindling attention span. I'm tempted to try STS but the 3 month commitment seems too much. Plus I looked at the length of the workouts and meso 2 & 3 require more time than I want to spend working out.

Tina it sounds like you had a nice anniversary celebration day! How many times will this be for STS for you? Are you working out tomorrow or taking a rest day?

Shereta - your hard work is paying off in increased endurance. You should be SO PROUND OF YOURSELF!

How are you doing Melanie? Did you 10K today?

Do any of you ladies have a link for a good 5k training program? I want to do the Warrior Dash on 11/10, I'll probably walk some of it but would like to be in the best shape possible to tackle it.

Have a good one... :)

What an AWESOME weekend! A three day cycling bonanza, now I'm really ready to settle down and start my third round of STS for this year. If Xtrain ships before the three months is up, I'll give them to my sister to try out first.

My good jacket was too dirty to wear this morning, so I put on an old leather jacket that used to fit perfectly. It swims on me now, it looked like it belonged to DH. I think STS has really shrunk some of my bulk. : )

No school today and DD is in the workout room right now doing KPC again. I'm so proud of her!

Happy Monday girls!

Its actually a holiday for me (Canadian Thanksgiving), so I've been enjoying having the day off and taking things easy. We went to a park with our doggy and enjoyed the fall colours and autumn sunshine.

Shereta - congrats to you on your awesome run! You sounded soooo happy!! Well, we're all proud of you and happy to hear that you had a great run. Are you going for that 10K soon?

Tina - so glad to hear about your fantastic cycling weekend. I'm sure having the nice weather made it so much more enjoyable. AND - that is great to hear about your jacket fitting too big! Sometimes we don't realize the progress we're making, and we can still be critical of ourselves in the mirror, but the clothes don't lie!

Sue - I agree with you that having a fixed workout schedule helps keep you on track. I've always planned out a few weeks in advance, but have to admit that sometimes I don't always stick to my schedule.

Sue, I don't know of any really good 5K training programs because I've always followed my own program. There is probably something on the internet, but I'm not sure if they'll make you pay a fee. I've just always followed the conventional wisdom of training which is run at least 3 days a week - one long run at a slower pace, one tempo run (shorter distance, but push yourself with your pace), one interval run (do a slower paced warm-up run for around 8 - 10 minutes, then run 1 minute super fast, 2 minutes slow, 1 fast, 1 minute slow, 2 minutes fast, 1 minute slow etc.). The interval run is sort-of like HIIT.

So Sunday was a great day for me - I ran 24 kilometers or 15 miles!! It took me 2 hours and 42 minutes. I was really only expecting to run 23 kilometers, but I over-estimated the time I needed to spend out there so I got in an extra kilometer. Let me tell you, I reached my limit yesterday. I was so happy that I accomplished that distance, but my legs were TIRED afterwards!! I really felt it. So I think I'll back off with the huge long distances on Sundays for a couple of weeks and concentrate on speed/interval training. Then get back to long distance once a week. Its probably good to change things up.

I'd also like to do a couple of weeks of Cathe's circuit training dvds (LIC, BodyMax 2, Drill Max, Cardio & Weights, High Step etc.) I haven't done those workouts in ages and I'm missing them!

Hope you all have had a great day!

Hi ladies! No workout for me today, busy work day and truth be told I let it slide. I didn't feel like working out yesterday so I did basic step, at least there wasn't any thinking necessary :). I tried to tack on some core work at the end but it was no-go. Tomorrow I will be walk/running - thanks Melanie for the advice, I will try to work it into my "plan". I'm going to try the core work from one of the 4ds workouts, I could actually finish those ones so maybe I'll have more success. Add in some 1RM tests and that does it for me.

Tina I'm so glad you had a wonderful weekend! Do you have outdoor snow sports during the winter or will you be hibernating? Congrats on the leaner you - time to shop!

Happy Thanksgiving Melanie! Congrats to you for that long run! I've read lots of good stuff about interval training and changing things up is supposed to be good for you, so good planning!

Hi Shereta, I hope you're well :)

Hey, Yall. thanks for the kudos from my run on Saturday. 10K scheduled on Thanksgiving day.

No workout yesterday. But, today i did a LIC STep Premix. Fun and tiring. I will do some speed work on the dreadmill and weights tomorrow.

Hi guys -

Sue - sorry to hear you're not feeling 100%. Hope you'll get some energy back to tackle your workouts. Sometimes though we just need to take a break (mentally & physically).

This morning I did Low Impact Circuit. I really enjoy that workout. It has great music and a really challenging core section at the end. Usually I skip core, but I'm trying to work that in 3 days a week.

I'm really getting excited about X-Train. Normally when I do a pre-sale, I just pay the cost and try to forget about it so that I don't get impatient. But Cathe's newsletter yesterday really got me excited. I can't wait for this new program!

First time in forever I just didn't feel like doing kickboxing. Low Max this morning, really enjoyed the steady state work. I think I may plug in step cardio on Tuesdays and leave Thursdays for kickboxing and the weekends for cycling or spinning.

Melanie, I'm really getting excited for the Xtrain series too. I keep looking for more updates, like some sort of junkie.

Off to make some old fashioned apple oatmeal. : )

Wow. Im not ordering it. I just have SO MANY Cathe dvd's. Im done for now. I really hope yall enjoy them.

Today I did the core section from 4DS KB and a walk/run. My hammies are still sore from Saturday's w/o so running was unpleasant. Lately my food has been more snacks and less meals, I don't think that's agreeing with me energy-wise, also I've slacked off on water and that's definitely an energy suck. I need to get back to disciplined eating and I'll be more motivated for workouts.

Good job on the workouts ladies! I ordered xtrain, but I'm not impatiently waiting for it. I have plenty of challenging workouts, I don't know if I'll even be in good enough shape to take it on immediately.

Have a good night/morning :)

Hi girls - this morning was IMAX 3 - not as hard as I remembered it to be. Maybe the running has really helped to strengthen my legs.

I joined Myfitnesspal.com to track my calories etc. Hopefully it'll help me keep on track. I'm great during the day, the problem is when I get home and have "a little of this", then "a little of that". I think its all adding up and sabotaging my workouts. grrrrrr..... :(

Anyhoo ... the struggle continues.

I was going to do 4 weeks of 4DS but have decided instead to do my own rotation incorporating Cathe's circuit dvds twice a week, Cathe's intense cardio dvds once a week, lower body routine once a week and running twice a week. Plus I'll make sure I work my core 3 times a week.

Shereta - I hear you on having enough Cathe dvds. Pre-sales are a weakness for me! I hope that after I get X-Train I'll be able to restrain myself on the next big pre-sale. ;)

less cardio?

Hey girls - so I've been doing some reading on the dangers of being a cardio junkie, that it can actually slow down your weight-loss. While all the science makes sense, I've become programmed over the years to think that the more cardio I do, the more weight I'll lose.

I'm afraid to cut back on my cardio. When I miss a scheduled cardio workout, I feel so guilty and paranoid that I've just ruined my chances of losing weight. Then to catch-up, I'll do two workouts in one day.

Anyone else feel the same way?

I'm thinking of doing an experiment - cutting back on cardio, but I admit that I'm worried about it.

Here's my schedule that I had planned out for this week:
Tuesday - Low Impact Circuit
Wednesday - IMAX 3
Thursday - a.m. Butts & Guts, p.m. Hiit 30/30
Friday - BodyMax 2
Saturday - 10K run
Sunday - 18K run

I think I'm going to modify it - cut out Hiit 30/30 on Thursday night, do a 15k run on Saturday and a total body strength dvd (like Muscle Max) on Sunday.

What do you girls think?

Melanie I'm seeing all kinds of stuff online saying hiit is better for fat loss than straight cardio, so keep the 30/30 and remove one of the other cardios. You also don't want to do hiit everyday.

Today I did core from 4ds lis, it's harder for me than the core on kb because of the lower AB work. I'll keep doing these two core sections until they're not challenging anymore then I'll move onto some others that I've bailed on recently. Also did a walk/run and a couple of 1RM exercises. Tomorrow should be more of the same.

Shereta - how did your speed work go today?

Are you in STS heaven Tina?

Melanie you may be onto something with the cardio. I'll be interested in knowing how your experiment pans out, also what you think about myfitnesspal.com.

Cheers!

Sue, I am in STS hell. Doms this morning from M1D3 legs are brutal on the inner thighs. I'm so glad I switched the legs to Wednesday. Cycling would not be fast if I had to ride today. Kickboxing this morning will hopefully break up some of that pain. I am so happy to be back with STS. My memory is so bad, some of the moves from yesterday I don't remember doing before, even though this is my third STS run. Those one legged squats were killer and I don't remember ever doing them before.

On the food front, I'm craving starch like crazy. I made frosted ginger snaps last night and I'm very sorry for it today. I'm forbidding myself to do any further baking for a week. Grocery shopping today and I'm only going to shop the perimeter. I'm thinking a big fruit salad for dessert tonight.

Melanie, your schedule looks intense. I like it! I used to be a "must get cardio in everyday" type, but STS has really changed my thinking on this (and the scale too). Now I enjoy alternating strictly cardio days with strictly weight days. Cardio days are more intense now. I think my heart enjoys the MWF routine and I can hit the cardio harder on TThSS. I'm watching the scale to see if the four pounds I gained while doing circuits comes back off with STS.
