Weight Watchers or South Beach Diet

What do you think is more practical and easy to follow - WW or SB? I'm an Italian girl, so pasta and bread are in my bones! I probably could pull off not eating them for 2 weeks with careful planning, but I am wondering which diet is better for losing 5 pounds and keeping it off?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I've been a lifetime WW member for 4 years now and love it. I've never tried the South Beach Diet because of the carb limitations. I love bread, potatoes, pasta etc... WW is a true lifestyle eating change and I believe would be easier to adapt to since you are not really limited in what you can eat. Just my opinion.

Definitely Weight Watchers! I do the online program and don't have go to any meetings. I've treid South Beach and I was miserable!

WW is definitely the way to go if you're talking long term success!

:)

Shopgirl,

I have to vote for WW too. However, I’ve heard good things about the South Beach Diet, but never tried it.

Why not sign on to WW e-tools, that way you don’t have to go to any WW meeting, I like it. The cost is only $12.95 a month.

If I may make a tiny suggest, go to any WW and get the pamphlet for a free 2 week trail. That’s what I did first and after my 2 weeks was up, I signed up from month to month. It’s a great program. Just me .02cents.

I would agree WW works better long term, as it is very easy to adapt to ANY lifestyle....and for long term. I think the carb restriction diets or diets in general are ok for short term but so many people fall off of them long term and based on your desires of pasta and bread, I think WW is better for you.

I vote for WW too.... Ive been a member since 2000 and lost over 100 pounds and kept it off.... I just find it is such a good lifestyle change and you can eat anything in moderation. I eat breads, pasta, meats, cheeses, cereal, ice cream. so I love it though like another poster said Ive heard good things about SB too.

Good Luck!

FYI,

Weight Watchers stopped working for me when I turned about 42 years old. Before that, I lost the weight I wanted and kept it off. I think WW works much better for people who need to lose a lot of weight..not so good for that last few pounds. At least that's my experience.

Phase 1 of SBD is very restricting, but Phase 2 is very, very similar to WW. I think people tend to forget there are THREE phases. Also, SBD is great for a quick fix...and I don't gain the weight back right away like ATKINS.

Edited to say, if WW still worked for me....I would choose that over SBD.

HTH and good luck
:7

I've been on Atkins (of which I believe SBD is a modified version) & I've had amazing results. I couldn't believe how fast the weight came off. It took a few months to adjust, but now I feel great.

I never did WW but I did low fat until I hit 30. After that it just didn't seem to work for me anymore. Change in metabolism I guess. Problem is, different things work for different people so it's hard to get advice from others about diet.

Just like exercise, we all have to find our own eating niche...so to speak. And when you do, don't get to comfortable because you will probably have to change it up againx( .

I just KNEW I could count on you guys. I'm going to give WW a try (esp. the online - thanks Teddygirl) and see what happens. It isn't a great sum of weight, but it sure isn't moving with what I'm doing. I'm hoping a change will be the difference.

Thanks again.

Great! I didn't have much to lose either and WW worked for me. I think the combination of Cathe and WW together works great. I'm trying out the new core plan which I love so far. It is all explained to you over at the WW website.

Good luck!

:)

Shopgirl: I got a $10 discount on the online WW through my health insurance company (which happens to be Pacificare but I am sure others have it). Hope you see this in time....it is possible you can get a discount that way too.

Shop girl,

WW's is really working for me!!! I joined in mid-July and haven't found it hard to do (or keep up with) at all. And I am a person who loves her pasta too...(aw heck ALL food!) I had about 30 lbs that I wanted to lose and am well on my way.

You know the saying "there is a thin person inside me trying to get out" Well I truly believe that there is a FAT person inside me trying to get out, but WW is keeping that person locked in, BUT STILL HAPPY! (I hope no one is offended by that joke.) :)

I can't say enough about WW. I LOVE IT!!
