Weight charts: small, medium and large frames?

Ok I need someone to answer this question for me. Yesterday a male coworker was saying that all women over size 5 were overweight. I'm a size 8 right now and I just wanted to punch him in the throat. I was saying to him that those women were considered skinny and I was considered average not plus size. I got so freaking mad, girls you have no idea. I've been working *really* hard to be in this size right now and all of a sudden I'm plus size! He also was saying that he read a book (I actually really doubt he was reading anything but he's just one of those people that never loses an argument) and he said the author was saying that the small, medium and large frames was just a myth that was created by the American government because they are the "fattest" nation in the world. I let this guy get to me so bad that I actually changed my height to centimeters and my weight to kilograms and checked out the European weight charts and I was still in the normal range, but he still was saying I was a plus size.

Now to my question. According to the weight charts and my wrist measurement I'm a large frame and for my height my weight is in the range of "normal" (of course it's really high in the range and I'm still trying to lose more weight). I also read that you're a small frame if you wrap your left hand around your right wrist and your thumb and middle finger overlap, medium frame if your thumb and finger touch, and large if your fingers don't touch at all. This one doesn't make any sense to me because I have really big hands and long fingers. And for my height my wrist measurement (6 3/8") that makes me large frame, but my fingers definitely overlap. I'm so confused about all this. By the way my BMI is just under 25 which is normal although I still can go lower than that. I just don't understand the purpose of small, medium and large frames and which one I am. I would like to know.

On the other hand, I always think the best way is to look at the mirror and I know I still have room for improvement, but I also want to be in a healthy range. Thank you in advance ladies.

By the way this is a link to the page I was reading: http://www.losalamitosmedctr.com/CW...tr/newsAndArticles/WhatsYourHealthyWeight.htm

First off, I'm coming over there to punch that guy in the face.

Second, DON'T listen to him!!!! What a crock. Any woman over size 5 is obese. Yeah, right. Don't let people like that get to you. They're just full of hot air. I suppose he's Mr. Perfection, is he?

Come over! Then we'll get the other idiots we have been mentioning in the forum these past few days. :p

There's always someone that's willing to rain on someone else's parade. Unbelievable.

What a jerk! The small/medium/large frame thing is silly IMO. In the past, I've tried to figure out what my frame is as well. Compared to really small people, I'm probably large. Compared to super tall people, I'm small. What about small to medium, or medium to large? Or super small, or super large? Or small on top and medium on bottom? Where does it end? This really makes sense if you compare one person to the next, and that's not always the most constructive thing to do IMO. It sounds to me like you're in great shape and you're healthy, and that's what matters anyway.

He is just being a man. Tell him that's ok you prefer a man who knows what to do with a well built woman.

Ok I wear a size 5 and sometimes I look in the mirror and wish I was a little smaller or more lean/cut. But I look at some women who say they wear 7's or 9's and they look phenomenal. I would say don't share information on what size you wear with a man, it's none of their business.

What a D*CK!
He's one of those guys that will be 50 and fat and wondering why his perfect size 5 woman ain't interested!
Anyway.... I am 5'5 but very small boned. My wrist measures 5 3/4" and in my 20's when I was unfit but skinny I was never smaller than a 6 (and that was 23 years ago when a 6 was small!) Now that I'm fit w/ some muscle I am in a 7-8 on a good day and tell that jerk I look dang good for 43! Just ask my DH}(

Everybody is right he is an a**. What is his frame? Is he a greek god! I bet not! Ignore him.

Igore this guy, he doesn't have a clue and ignore
those height, weight and body frame size charts.
It sounds like he was either joking or trying to get you
mad either way, don't waste your time having a conversation
with him. I am a size 8 and 5 ft 2 in tall and in the best
shape of my life, so if that is considered plus size to him
then I am glad to be a "plus size".

This guy sounds pretty ignorant.

Of course there are different size frames!

Don't let him get to you. He doesn't know what he's talking about.

Why in the world did you give him the power to make you upset or question yourself? You look great, and there is only one person in the world that you need to please... and that is YOURSELF! :)

And yes, there are definitely frame sizes. It's pretty easy to look at a person's wrist, or do the wrist measurement, to decide if they are small, medium or large framed.

I am 5'7" tall and have a 5.5 inch wrist. My frame is small. I only weigh 115 lbs, but I look fine at that weight. I know there are people my height who say they are too skinny at that weight. We all differ.

Seriously, I wouldn't give that guy's opinion another thought. What difference does it make what he thinks? Really.

What a full of himself A**Wipe. I am 5'4 and wear a 6-8 and have never been more fit in my life. Actually I saw on Good Morning America last week that the "average" size American woman is a size 16:eek: So I am happy with a 8 because thanks to ya-all and Cathe I am now below the Average;-)

I would question a guy who is so knowledgable about women's clothing sizes. He wouldn't also happen to be a size 5, would he? ;-)

Seriously, do not listen to this man. He obviously doesn't know what he is talking about and obviously does not know what to say to a woman. Maybe he just needs to make himself feel better by putting other people down (you know little man's complex).

Congratulations on all the hard work that you do for yourself!! Who cares what other people (jerks) say.

I can tell you from personal experience that he's grade double a$$ wrong! I am a large framed person, such that if I *were* a size 5, I would seriously look like I walked out of a concentration camp! There is no way that I could be that small, in fact, my bones are probably not that small! I wear a 12 now (down from a 22) and some people say that I am skinny. I would like to be down another 25 lbs to get my BMI in the healthy range, but considering that it used to be so much higher, I am happy!
Just let him know that women over size 12 are 73% more likely to keep their men (scientific fact!!!) from wandering!

The smallest I've ever been is a size 5 juniors (size 3 women's), but that was when I was a teenager and my chest and hips were not fully developed yet. The discussion with this "gentleman" started when I wore an outfit that was my current size and everybody started to say how fit I looked. I normally wear loose fitting clothing. Then the size conversation started and I said that my body would never go below a size 4 and he started talking about all that I mentioned before. I definitely know what you mean. I have a large frame and I know that I will never be a size 0 like one of my best friends (she has a small frame, small chest, and narrow hips), but I accept that fact and I'm happy with my body.

Keep on working hard and I know you will reach your goal. I know I want to lose a little bit more to get that BMI where it should be (it's very close to 25 now). I want to look good, but I want to maintain my health also. I guess my coworker thinks everybody can look like a model and for some of us that would mean starving ourselves and/or exercising for 4-6 hrs a day and that's just unreasonable and unhealthy.
