Weight charts: small, medium and large frames?

The general consensus is that my coworker is an a** and I shouldn't let his "knowledge" affect me at all. Thanks for all your replies and take care. ;-)

>Ok I need someone to answer this question for me. Yesterday
>a male coworker was saying that all women over size 5 were
>overweight.

He's full of s%*@#$!

> He also was saying that he read a
>book (I actually really doubt he was reading anything but he's
>just one of those people that never loses an argument) and he
>said the author was saying that the small, medium and large
>frames was just a myth that was created by the American
>government because they are the "fattest" nation in the world.

This is laughably stupid: the "American government" may make up a lot of things (like the existence of weapons of mass destruction in a country whose oil we want to control), but the small/medium/large frame isn't one of them (and the concept has been around for much longer than we've had an obesity problem.)

He can read?

> I also read that you're a small frame if you wrap your left hand
>around your right wrist and your thumb and middle finger
>overlap, medium frame if your thumb and finger touch, and
>large if your fingers don't touch at all.

I've heard that also.

> I
>just don't understand the purpose of small, medium and large
>frames and which one I am.

I'm not sure there is a purpose, other than on some weight charts.

Regarding your profoundly low-IQ co-worker, I'm reminded of a quote by (I believe) George Bernard Shaw:

"Never wrestle with a pig. The pig will have fun, and you'll just get dirty."

Regarding the weight charts and the women's clothing sized and the frame thing - screw 'em all. Save your time, energy and concentration for a Cathe workout.

"Women" over size 5 are overweight?

This man does not want a woman, he wants a Barbie or even better, a blow up doll. Real women are all different shapes and sizes, have curves, are skinny, are tall, are short, are sensual, voluptuous, and sexy, as we all know, comes in a whole load of different packages. It's all in the eye of the beholder and this "man" is severly myopic.

You and I and all of us here are fabulous just as we are. Mark Darcey, from Bridget Jones' Diary knew what he was talking about!

Why don't you ask him to wrap his fingers around his wrist. Then (whatever the result) tell him you read a book that the result means he has a real little d*ck. grrrrr.

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!! As much as I don't care to drop down a level to talk to people, this response seems appropriate to communicate with a guy of this caliber.

Marylin Monroe was a lot bigger than a size 5. She was either a 12 or a 14, I forget which one. The skinny adolesent look is in right now and maybe this guy likes it a little too much. Maybe he is some kind of hidden pervert that likes girls instead of women that actually have curves. (I'm not using the work curves but meaning fat.)

The 'adverage' person now a days is a size 14, yet the models are a size 4, according to something I read in a magazine anyway.

A size 8 is not fat. Either is a size 10, or 12. A size 14 is on the larger size but not really fat. Next time that jerk says anything like that tell him that while he may think you're fat you can always loose weight. He'll be ugly forever. (Notice the "while he thinks" part of that. There is no way a person that wears a size 8 is anywhere close to fat-unless you're about 3 feet maybe.) Then punch him.

Unfortunately, we are all victims, or blessed by, our genetic codes. You can only do so much with what you have. I read on this web site that one of the woman that demonstrates with Cathe on the DVD's eats 2500 calories a day. Wow! I would be a size 24+ if I ate that much, and I do tons of cardio and lift a lot of weights, heavy weights. I have a lot of muscle tone. Everyone is different. You have to do that best you can with what you have.

It is really hard when some jerk says something like that, because most of us wish we were smaller. So, when someone says something like that, we believe it. I've noticed that it is easier for me to believe something negative that someone says to me than if they compliment me. Just keep reminding yourself that that guy is a jerk and what he said isn't true.

You're all too much! lol! Every time I see him I'm going to remember all your funny posts. Bottom line is I know I need to lose a couple of more pounds, not because of my size, but because my BMI is very close to 25 at the moment and I want to be healthy. I certainly won't do it because of idiots like him. And yes I have a large frame, so what? I'm sure he can't handle a woman with such strength. :p

I was just wondering what this pig co-worker of yours looks like. These dudes with their big guts are always critical of women, like the prize winner I live with who calls gymnists and ice skaters he sees on TV "chunky."

goodness, I don't even know where to begin. That would make me furious if someone at work made a comment like that! This guy is clearly a misogynist pig! People don't always fit into neat little categories when it comes to health or fitness. I am currently pregnant, but before this, I wore a size 6 jeans or pants and 8/10 blouses. I am 5'7" and my body fat was 22%. However,I was considered to be 'overweight' by the BMI standards that are used b/c my weight hovered around 160 lbs. I was hardly obese and happy with my body because I felt fit and enjoyed being active.

By the way, I live in Europe as an american expat and I can safely tell you that there are 'overweight' people here! The only difference I have noticed is that there are fewer people here who are over 400 pounds. But, Americans aren't alone in this and are not the fattest country in the world! In the UK, the average woman is 5'3" and an american size 12.

It is demoralizing when women are judged or criticized by a man based on weight/size for any reason. I would just tell him to shut up - and wish him good luck! After all, he will need it with such harsh criticism of women. If he's so obsessed with a woman's size, he will surely miss out on all of our wonderful qualitites as human beings!

Here's another one: Tell him that you agree and that any man that has a waist over 30-32" is overweight. It really doesn't matter how tall you are or your build - all men should have a waist this size or they are overweight. (unless you think he has a 30" waist! Then don't say this ;) )

Can you tell how mad this jerk made me! I guess it reminds me of when we were building our house. I found out I was pregnant w/ #2 dd and the carpenter gave me a 30 min. speech on how I had to watch my weight, what I ate etc. He was talking to me as if he knew what it was like to be pregnant. I felt like saying "I am paying you to fix the bathroom so shut up and work!) But I didn't and I was upset - it was amplified because of the hormone rollercoaster I was on! x(

But size 12 back then is equivalent to about a size 6 or 8 now.
