weaker in triceps than biceps?

Hi Cathe,

I was wondering if my triceps are supposed to be stronger than my biceps. I notice that in powerhour you use a 15lb barbell for biceps and 25lbs for triceps. I can use 20lbs for biceps with no problem but I struggle on 20lbs for triceps, 15lbs is actually more acheivable for me (and I use 8lbs for the kickbacks). Is there something wrong with me? Should I try to strengthen my triceps?

One more quick question about powerhour. When I do the back exercises I sometimes begin to feel it in my upper back between neck and shoulders and it starts to kind of ache. Do you think I'm doing something wrong. I usually use 25lbs for this.

Thanks for your help. I've been doing powerhour three times a week and loving it very much! The lunges have actually gotten easier for me!!

Congratulations in advance on your new little one!

Hi Kristie! Glad you are enjoying power hour so much. Strength varies within each individual. Some people are stonger for one body part than another. You can only weight train within your own given strength. As long as you are using a weight that is a true challenge to your muscle, you are just fine staying with that weight (regardless of how much actual weight that is).

If you ever feel discomfort when doing an exercise stop and evaluate your form and also lighten your weight. In this case I would say to make sure that you are not doing this exercise while stretching your head to look at the tv. This will strain the trapezius area (between neck and shoulders)because you are taking your spine out of neutral alignment by lifting your head to look at the tv. Also go down to 20 pounds and see if this helps. You can always gradually work your way to 25 pounds again. Good luck!

Hi, Kristie, I have an injury to my left elbow and I can't use much weight when it comes to triceps. Fortunately, they are as often-used as my biceps so it's never been a problem for me. I am absoultely floored to see Cathe use the weights she does for all of her parts pretty equally. I have to drop for triceps and shoulders but am pretty equal in chest, back and biceps. I often do extra exercises or add an extra day for my weaker parts.

You know what floors me? I was reading another post about heavy lifting for legs. It is hard to believe that some of the women posting here lift like 60 or 70 lbs for squats. That is just amazing to me. I cannot even imagine lifting that heavy.

It will be interesting to see if my tricep strength changes when I start doing the PS series. I've only done MIS and PH so far, so I am very excited about starting PS on my next rotation.
