Want to lose weight and quite a bit of it... HELP!

Hello! I know people ask this all the time but I thought I might ask my own question about it. I want to lose 60 pounds this year - I'd love to lose it by July honestly. I understand that the actual weight number is inconsequential because I'll gain muscle (especially doing Cathe workouts!!) so I'll tell you that I want to get into a size 9-10 pants (I am in a snug size 14 now). Over the past couple of weeks I have picked up darned near everything Cathe has put out except Power Max, How to get Yourself in shape for Wedding, Step Heat, Mega Step Blast, and Step N Motion 1. I am not new to working out or weight lifting... just rusty as h#@$!!!

I also like to do Taebo advanced workouts and have started to pick up a couple other step only work outs (Christi Taylor's Solid Gold and Seasun's The Next Step). I start my workout regimine "for real" tomorrow along with a food plan (no carbs at night except what's in vegetables, eggs, string cheese, nuts, salads, grilled meats, etc.) I am thinking cardio 4 times per week (step and kickboxing) and weight training three times per week. I added stretching to my plan 3x per wk as well as Abs 3x per week. 1 day off per week. I would really like to hit my goal of July 16th - we are going to Sint Maarten! I wrote all of this to ask you gurus if there are any tips you can give me on making this successful. What have you found with Cathe workouts for weight loss? I feel like my plan is doable if I stick with it - am I being unrealistic?

Thanks for responding - I psyched to get started!

Hi Lisa! I can give you my two cents, for what it's worth.......

First of all the idea that muscle weighs more than fat is a myth. Well, kind of a myth. Muscle weighs about .01% more than fat. So your weight really is a good gauge of your progress.

Second, I've personally found Atkins to be the most effective diet. I lost about 30 lbs in six weeks & have kept it off for more than 2 years. It took discipline at first but after a while it got to be second nature.

Last, I think a minimum of 30 minutes cardio 4-5 times a week. But diet is the key.......

Good luck!

Hi Lisa, Sounds like a good plan to me . good luck with your goals . I do Tea Bo too .Some Firm.Mindy <And Hardcore on the way .Hopefully Cathe will help with that last 10 pounds . I'm sure she will !!!!:) :) :) :) :)

Oh I forgot to say .... I read Dr Phils Book . "7 Keys to weight Loss Freedom ". Great book to get started with for me ... I'm an Emotional eater !!!! x( x( .Have come along ways in my "recovery":) :)

I just posted about this on the Open Discussion forum this morning. I just picked up the book over the weekend and have been surprised about some of the things I've learned. This sounds like a much more successful and achievable eating plan than Atkins (Abs Diet is much less restrictive...and I've always believed that a restrictive diet is one that will ultimately fail for the majority). Also, the chemistry of how the Abs Diet works makes sense to me (this is what happens when you have a chemist for a father - :) )

My biggest weight loss secret is lots of water and no soda pop (not even diet soda pop). Green tea is also excellent to boost the metabolism. And something I'm learning from the Abs Diet book is that I need to cut out foods high in High Fructose Corn Syrup (and I've been amazed at what foods contain this product).

By the way, the book I bought over the weekend was a smaller "guide" and not the full-blown book advertised on the absdiet website.

The eating plan on the Abs Diet is very similar to Body for Life, which I had good success with back a few years ago...but even Body for Life was more restrictive than the Abs Diet seems to be.

Take a look!

Oh, and remember, the faster you lose the weight, the faster it will come back on. Slow and sure is the best way to lose weight and keep it off. They say that 1-2 pounds per week is ideal for weight loss. Any more than that, and you're losing weight too fast unless you have a lot to lose. I DO know that as you lose more and more weight, it comes off slower and slower...that's just natural.

Whatever eating plan you go with, it should be something you can live with long term, otherwise you will go back to your old habits and regain your weight. You need to re-educate yourself on food. Learn to make substitutions, learn to read food labels, learn to cultivate a taste for veggies and fiber. Think of your weight loss as forever, and not just till after the wedding.

I was talking to someone today about what I do, and she seemed dismayed that I count calories every day even on maintanance. Yep, I gotta watch all the time to not gain weight. But it's worth it.

I've found that food journaling is very helpful...even if just on post it notes that you eventually throw away. I just jot down what I eat & the calories (not fat, carbs, fiber, etc. since I tend to make good choices but overeat if I don't police myself). This just keeps me from forgetting the 50 cal bite of a cookie I ate, or other "harmless" little nibbles that can really derail me. It really works well for me if I do it consistently.
