Want to get a Blackberry, Blueberry or I-phone thingy

So, I don't own a Berry or I-thingy of any kinda and am considering getting something along those lines. Besides the phone aspect, I'd want email and internet. Please let me know the good, bad and ugly about what you have now or have gotten rid of!! I currently have Verizon if that matters.

Oh yeah... we're talking 44 year old eyes so something extremely tiny with tiny print is all but useless!! I don't want to wear my readers everytime I use it!:p

Thanks!
Pam

You'll have to wait for the iphone, it's not available yet for Verizon. It is currently in development but last I heard, it may be next year until it is available. I will hold out for the Iphone.

I agree with Calendar Girl! The iPhone is the easiest to learn to use compared with Palm or Blackberry, IMHO. I'm technically challenged and have never had any issue with using mine. I hadn't heard about a delay until next year for Verizon access, but I haven't been following the i-news lately. I know the next generation is supposed to be out this summer. I know someone who has the Google Droid, but I can't attest to the ease of use.

Take your time, get all the research you can. I would go so far as to say visit places that carry the various smart phones and try them out, ask questions, then make a decision. It's not an inexpensive decision to make and you'll be stuck with it for a while.

Pam...I didn't think I needed one...until I got one! And it CHANGED my life! My vote: iPhone! iPhone!!! My technologically disadvantaged mom has a matching one and LOVES it! It's even worth leaving Verizon for. But PS...you'll pay about $100 a month for your cell phone bill (including data plan)...but it's still worth it, I say! If you want, I can tell you about all the amazing apps you can get...if I can persuade you!

FWIW Verizon has the Droid which is supposed to be like the iPhone. I have never used either though so I can't comment on what it's like.

droid eris

I have the droid eris from HTC through verizon and I love it. Very easy to learn and use. Great screen with excellent clarity and the camera is better than my digital camera.

I love my iphone too!

FWIW, you can forget finding a phone that you can see without your reading glasses. I can see who is calling, and I can see the apps on the screen, but you can forget reading text messages without your glasses.

I have figured out a way to zoom texts (zoom setting, tap screen 3 times with 3 fingers), but the problem is that it also zooms the keyboard which makes it impossible to text back in zoom mode because you can only access half the keyboard. So, you can read it in zoom, but have to return to regular size to text back. So... you'll still need your glasses.

Around here Verizon is about as good as it gets for cell phone service. If I had my choice, I would stick with Verizon and look into the Droid now or just wait for the iphone to come to Verizon. My nephew has a Droid and it is really neat. I have the iphone for work, but I'd trade it for my nephew's Droid. ;)

Really? I can't say the same for my area. My DH has Verizon through his company and his calls drop ALL the time. It's irritating to talk to him.
I've been with Cingualar/AT&T for 15 years and I rarely(I would dare say never) have dropped calls.

His company is slowly switching employees to the iPhone and dropping Verizon.

I recently bought the Droid. It took me a few days to get comfortable with it, but i love it! It does everything i need it to do and is actually very easy to use. Plus, when you buy the droid, Verizon will email you a tutorial on it in case you need it!

It probably just depends on where you are at. AT&T is spotty here. It works great out in the boonies of WA state though when I'm on vacation. My company has been using them for a while and as long as I stick to the bigger towns, I'm fine. Most people here stick with Verizon for their personal phones though.

Verizon is the only option where I live, too. I just got the Palm Pre Plus, only because it has the free mobile hotspot feature, which enables me to use the web and online-only apps on my iPad everywhere I go. No other phone has this feature for free...of course, if Verizon had the iPhone I would have that instead.

The Palm is a neat little smartphone though. I've had a few technical problems with it that make me suspect mine is defective, but when it's not doing those things (shutting off if I close the slider too roughly), it works beautifully. It does have some teeny tiny text but you can zoom in on webpages, which helps. I love the chat-style text message interface, I always use the tasks app to make my shopping lists, the camera is nice, and I like listening to Pandora radio.

However, I've played with a Droid so I know it has its advantages. If the mobile hotspot was free on a Droid phone, I probably would have bought that one.
