very upset

I understand your anger and sadness.
I would feel the same way.
I think declawing should be illegal, and only done for medical reasons.

Ditto. But, just watch your kitty and never let them out alone. I think that your kitty will be ok. I'm so sorry that happened.:(

I've had plenty of declawed cats and it seemed to have not bothered them at all! The only thing I would make sure of is that your cat (anyone's cat for that matter) be an INSIDE cat only because they have less to protect themselves with outside.

You'll be ok hun and so will the cat!!!:D;)

My cats had laser declawing at about 2 months old, same time they were neutered. I know the idea of removing the nails seems barbaric to some, but how less barbaric is it to chop off their nuts? I mean, really??

My cats came home the next day and showed ZERO signs of pain or angst. They were playing and running all over the place, like not a thing had happened.

But, I'd be ready to neuter the husband for doing such a major thing when he knew good and well you were against it.

We had our kitty declawed very early. We lived in base housing and couldn't afford to have him claw up anything. He is the most loving and fun kitty! He plays, grabs our legs and arms and has quite a paw grip! He is happy and thinks he's a dog! This was almost 8 years ago! He still tries to scratch and that's pretty cute watching him reach up, scratch and slide his way down the furniture or our legs!

It didn't hurt his disposition at all. I think your kitty will be fine.

I am not sure how I would deal with the declawing issue at this point, either. I think the idea of it is cruel, but, like someone pointed out, so is spaying and neutering. These things can be necessities, though, in order to live a domestic life with the babies. My point is that animals are amazing creatures. They do not sit around feeling sorry for themselves and wonder why this happened them. Their attitudes soon after the procedure attests strongly to that! The deed is done now, and I think you should rest assured that your baby will truly be fine and happy. Do make sure that you let the paws heal properly so they don't develop an aversion to anything that causes them pain at the moment. I think cats, like dogs, can pick up on the energy you project more than anything else, so if you are happy then they will be happy. Take away three whole limbs and a tail and they'd still probably be happy! (not that I ever want to see this, just saying...)
