Tummy Trimmers-what works for you?

Hello Friends of the Forum.
Lately, I feel my mid-section has gotten huge although the rest of me is thin.
Due to work and graduate school, I have no time to workout. And, I've been eating whole foods as much as I can. My biological clock puts me at pre-meno. The hot flashes have stopped for awhile but my Aunt shows up still once a month. Stress is also a factor in my life right now especially at work.
Any advice or good results from previous experience will be appreciated.
TIA.

Hi Jennifer. I've always struggled with my middle since the birth of my 2 kids. A few months ago I decided to really tweak my diet and excersize to just as Cathe puts it "kick it up a notch." I changed my usual cardio workout to (circut and interval) training and started taking CLA and you know it actually has worked. I'm starting to really see deffinition in my abs. I can do 35 boy pushups in a row, . . thats a lot for me and those levitation holds in the Cathe Core DVD. Basically cardio, weight training, training my abs 3 days a week and I've added CLA. As far as the CLA, . I don't know if that has helped or if was just the workouts, but my abs are deffinitely stronger. I think full body weight training is important too, because you work your abs even when you don't think you are. Another good thing about having a stronger core is that I don't have lower back issues.

Janie1234,

35 boy pushups???!!!! You ROCK!

Aveggiegirl, your funny! :) I bet there are others here who have me beat. Trust me I had to work up to it too, . . . .I spent a long time pushing up on my knees, but honestly my goal is 50. I've sorta been on a push up challenge with my husband.

When it comes to the mid-section, I find my diet has more influence than exercise. I can work out consistently but if my eating isn't clean, I will still be more bloated, puffy and thick:confused:

I haven't been eating very well recently and I noticed I have been gaining weight around my mid section which has never really been my problem area. I was discussing this with my mom and she suggested this little exercise as seen on Oprah and suggested by Dr. Oz. It is working for her.

You lie on your back and take in a deep slow breath whilst expanding you stomach as much as you can. Then you slowly breath out and bring your stomach in real tight right into your spine.

You do this 10 times in the morning and 10 times in the evening. It sounds pretty basic, considering what we do with Cathe and ab work, but I've been doing it for a week and to my surprise I really see the results. Doesn't hurt trying, right?

PS - really helps the bowel situation too

Nancy.
Glad, I'm not the only one. Between work and school, I haven't figured out how I will fit in working out yet. I'm starting my 3rd week of graduate school and I'm still tweaking my study schedule.
Any more advice will be helpful here.
Thanks.

Hi Jennifer...pre-meno is such a pain. I have dealt with it for a couple of years. Once I really buckled down on my diet I started to loose some weight. But my body has changed and I seem to have a bit more around the middle. Stress can be a major factor with weight gain around the middle. I try and do ab work 3 times a week and that seem to help somewhat. I really like P90X+ Abs/Core as it hits all areas of the core. Maybe changing up some of your ab work (if you are doing some) will help...:)

I noticed a definite improvement in my lower tummy when I cut back on the amount of milk I was drinking (2 glasses a day) and replaced it with a daily Greek yogurt and calcium citrate tablets. I almost never drink milk anymore, but I eat yogurt and almonds and some string cheese as well as my calcium tablets with Vitamin D so I know I'm getting my calcium.

I've been told yogurt is good for that. I need to get back into having it more again. Not sure what the benefit is for Almonds, but I have heard there are some real good benefits from those.
Thanks for the info.

I'm 47 and really noticed a change in my abs when I started running. I have also been doing lots of kettlebell swings and full sit ups while holding a 35# kettlebell. My abs are flat (for the most part) and starting to show some definition.

Hi Nancy,
CLA is conjugated linoleic acid a good fat that "supposidly" has cancer fighting properties as well as helps to reduce belly fat. Here is more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conjugated_linoleic_acid
Now I can't tell you if it was the CLA that helped me to lose my my tummy or the excersize and clean eating that did it on its own. I didn't do some sort of scientific study. I've just read that it is naturally produced in eggs and grass fed beef.
By the way Nancy, . .thanks for much for your post on weil bars. I bought a box of the pistachi-o. Yummers. Also I never even tried a larabar but I liked that too. My favorite is apple pie. Thanks!!

Hi,

I have found that my diet! diet! diet! is the most important factor in seeing my six pack. For me, too many simple carbohydrates ruin my six pack. I also take CLA supplements and I work my abs with a variety of exercises 3-4 times weekly. My abs respond best to lots of variety. Variety insures that I hit those stubborn abs from all angles.

You're very welcome! I bought a box of the Banana Manna and a box of the Goji Moji and I am really enjoying them. The Banana is currently my fave. Those and the Larabars are the perfect thing to carry around in your handbag for those hunger "emergencies". :)

congrats, Jane and Regina, on your results.
Nancy, what is a banana manna? sounds interesting.
The yogurt seems to be working but working out would definately help. Time is the factor on that one.
